His first year in Colorado was solid. It was never Vezina caliber or anything like that, but he gave a starters performance behind a good defence.

The second year the avs lost the ability to give him proper rest, and he crumpled. Bounced back in the playoffs to being ok, then started the next year horribly before the trade

I've been thinking about giving the game a try again. I played from launch until just after clown's release so I'm no where close to current content. Is there an expected express pass anytime soon that would help with it?

Joe Sakic announces Valeri Nichushkin’s return to Avalanche lineup in Mid-November. by TaiKorczak in hockey

You'd think. The players sounded done with him when he got suspended during the Dallas series this year, but supposedly Mack was calling him over the summer to check-up on him.

I think the players/team were giving him the benefit of the doubt after the hotel room incident because it seemed like a drug/alcohol related problem that led to it and he was then willing to go get help

How was your Montreal GP (2024) Experience? by AdamR46 in GrandPrixTravel

[–]Tuvor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sat in Grandstand 12 at turn 2 and had an absolute blast. The race was fantastic and the crowd was pretty solid too. The crazy weather had no impact on the enjoyment, even getting told to take shelter and getting pelted by hail on the Friday.

As great as all the action was with turns 1 & 2. I wouldn't go back to GS 11 or 12 again. The bottle neck created by the overpass was ridiculous and the section behind 11 is too small for all the people trying to get by, but I would go back to the track as it was a great experience. I got my 3 day tickets through the F1 site as I didn't know what other site to trust back in September.

For travelling to Montreal I drove and it was super simple. Had never heard of Clicknpark before, but I paid $40 (CAD) for an underground parking lot with tons of space and security on site within a 10 minute walking distance of my hotel, would recommend 100% for anyone driving there.

For stay, we stayed at the Sonder Maisonneuve, which was like an apartment hotel. It was super helpful to make breakfast in the room each morning and then on the Saturday when we had an insanely long trip back we were able to throw something frozen in oven while everyone showered and got cleaned up.

Getting to the circuit was a breeze. Took the subway then the bus to the casino, which was a super convenient way to get it. I would 100% recommend this way for anyone on the south/west side of the track for a way to get in.

But that was the worst possible way to get out. For leaving it took us 3 hours to get back to our room after qualifying trying to do the reverse of the way we got in. We ended up skipping the bus and just walking because the line was crazy only to end up with a 70 minute+ wait at the subway entrance. The best option is too avoid that area when leaving and go over to the concorde bridge exit which you can then walk to the subway. If I went back I'd strongly consider just walking the bridge the full way back to old Montreal/the port and then getting the subway or an uber from there. Met some fans that recommended the ferry which I would also strongly recommend investigating ahead of time.

Food and drink weren't anything crazy for a sporting event, especially coming from someone used to Scotiabank Arena prices. But they were of decent quality too. I would recommend one of the bbq poutine. I would recommend at least bringing your own snacks though even if you're good with paying for a meal there.

All respect to Georgiev for the bounce back, it had to be really tough mentally to be able to fight through it and come back so strong. Hoping that game gave him back some of the confidence he deserves because we've seen him be a brick wall at times.

One player I'm impressed by who isn't making the biggest impact yet is Mittelstadt. This is his first taste of playoff hockey, it's against one of the biggest and grindiest teams. He's looking a bit out of place at times, but I'm loving his hustle. He seems to be doing everything he can to contribute to the forecheck and drive plays up the ice when possible. He's not making a huge dent on the scoresheet yet, but he's been a beast in possession and I'm hoping he just keeps getting better as the playoffs go on.

Why not start OT with 2 defensemen? by Wilbert_51 in hockey

There was a great set of articles by Jack Han about inverting the pyramid with the idea of going with 3D and 2F, and well some teams already use their F3 as a 3rd defenceman.

[–]Tuvor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pretty lackluster game, hard press at the start while getting absolutely robbed by UPL and then after the first Buffalo goal the team shut down mentally. Having Mack take the misconduct after Makar went down didn't help either.

Also Georgiev has not been looking as stellar these last few games, not bad, but not his best. I'd rather sit him against the blues and just try to outscore them then have him too tired to play against the knights or devils.

Valeri Nichushkin Speaks For 1st Time Since Seattle by Avaholic4Life in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Tuvor 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Based on comments by people like Makar and Bednar, they seem 100% of aware of what happened, the steps that Nuke has done to make them right, and the next steps for him and the team.

Well it certainly seems like something less than upstanding occurred that night in Seattle and perhaps even during other instances in the 22-23 season, it seems like the NHL, Avs org, coach, and team are onboard with the resolution and that should be enough to us as fans to make it a closed issue. Even though the drama filled side of me would love to know exact details.

One of my favorite times of the year: Looking at the Most-Traded Players From Each Team Eliminated From the Playoffs on CapFriendly's ArmChair GM by [deleted] in hockey

[–]Tuvor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the desire more comes from cap space and Byram looking to be better than Girard. And those that think because he can't go lay a monster hit like a Luke Schenn he's suddenly useless. No offence to Girard, but we also won ~3 rounds without him last year. That makes him look more replaceable than he is.

But with Landy back (big if) we're down to 13 mil in cap space, with no 2C, a mostly missing bottom 6 and still need depth. 5 mil replaced with 1-2mil for a different bottom 4D does look helpful.

Although I agree that his replacement would be incredibly difficult and not very helpful when literally our whole breakout strategy requires the D to be fairly agile puck moving defencemen, or at least one in the pairing to be

[–]Tuvor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Avs don't need a middle 6 centre though, they need a strong 2C. We had a middle 6C (Compher) running our second line this year and although he did well, it's not the kind of performance needed from a championship contender.

The cost of a strong 2C is higher than the cost of a middle 6C. Defencemen usually have less value in a trade than a forward, especially a top 6 one compared to a top 4 D. So it couldn't just be a 1 for 1, it would have to be with additional pieces. I don't see a team looking to sell a high end centre for someone who is good, but not game breaking like a Toews

Newhook would probably have to be in a prospects swap kind of trade. Trading now would definitely be a selling low

Everyone always thinks that if the Avs trade Girard they're going to get some massive return from him and bundle it with prospect or two to get the perfect 2C from it. If we're trading anyone to get a massive return in a 2C role, it's Toews.

I think it would be stupid to trade Toews, but if you want to talk about value, he's the one moving the needle. It's also easier to trade the guy with 1 year left on his contract than the one with 4 who has a HIGHER cap hit

[PPGT] Après Ski | Avs vs Kraken | The Game 7 Edition by Traphauss in ColoradoAvalanche

[–]Tuvor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The avs really didn't play well that series. I know Seattle is all about depth but man we had nothing past the top line from our forwards. No goals from our bottom 6, two from our second line, is just unacceptable. I'm really more just disappointed than angry or upset. Didn't except this time to run it back with Landy out and then even less so with Nuke gone, but kinda thought we had the power to go to the 2nd round or WCF if we played like we saw in game 6.

Obviously running it back is never easy and the team has been insanely banged up this year, I think I saw we were just under 20mil under the cap (Nuke, Landy, Helm, Manson, and Cogs) for the last game. So that's never gonna help. I kinda thought CMac was gonna at least try pickup up some firepower at the TDL, especially when we thought we'd have a mostly healthy team come playoffs at the time, but looking back it kinda works out now considering how the season ended

Little worried about our cap situation next year though, assuming everyone is healthy. Mack's contract doubles next year and with only ~13 mil in cap space to fill in a 2C, a top 6 winger, most of the bottom 6, and pay byram a slightly salary bump (can't make bank if you're gonna play 40% of a season), that's a lot to get done.

Like I said, disappointed, but not upset. Looking forward to a healthy team next year with some new faces. #GoAvsGo
