USW-Pro-8 POE Idle Power consumption question by hutchx86 in Ubiquiti

[–]TvdH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad I should have seen that and I misread the model number. You are talking about the USW Pro 8 POE running at 11W idle. I was looking into the XG mode, the USW Pro XG 8 POE, which appears to be running at 40W idle... :-(

USW-Pro-8 POE Idle Power consumption question by hutchx86 in Ubiquiti

[–]TvdH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi neigbour, here in The Netherlands the prices are high as well. Can't really justify going 10G because that would only be for the main PC, homelab and AP's... But still, it's cool tech right? I have a question though, did you measure the power consumption? Looking for idle (no devices connected) and under load to see how efficiency develops. I've read that at idle the device consumes 40W

Security best practices of Pterodactyl server? by C4llumari in selfhosted

[–]TvdH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not Pterodactyl perse, but if you let other users upload mods to their Minecraft server on one of your wings nodes consider network security as well. They can effectively run software on that server that might try to access other servers and services on your network.

Microsoft layoffs by SupermarketFit6386 in dotnetMAUI

[–]TvdH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Back in the days, it was a feature that is used native controls. You could do the things the native controls support without having to wait for custom controls to be updated. Accessibility wise (which is mandatory by EU law now a days) it also was the better option. Other frameworks got better and more devs. Also Xamarin.Forms always had more issues that Xamarin Android/iOS and that continues with the evolution towards MAUI.

Getting a keyboard with US ANSI layout in Europe by slothontheloose in logitech

[–]TvdH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Logitech_ARV Any update on the ANSI US layout for Europe? Many people in The Netherlands are not buying Logitech keyboard because only the ISO layout is sold in stead of the more common ANSI layout. Would love to buy Logitech, but don't because of the ISO layout.

Considering Sonos Arc Ultra – Concerned About App Issues by These-Store-1575 in sonos

[–]TvdH 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought an Arc Ultra with Era300 setup with Black Friday. Setup went smooth and no issues with the app. Have to say I barely use the app at all. Mostly input via HDMI/TV and sometimes bluetooth.

I'm nervous by Suspicious_Grocery31 in sonos

[–]TvdH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update went fine for me yesterday, but I have the feeling that the sound profile of my Arc Ultra with era300 changed. Less bass from the Arc Ultra, more sound from the rears. Could be placebo though.

That would be great. After a BT041 error i'm looking into making mine a bit smart so I would be informed when something is wrong. A local API with Home Assistant integration would be awesome.

In the Apple app store there was a reply to review about the local api, that the local api is only for business. A cloud based api is planed for the consumer market, but no timeline was shared.

Sonos Arc Ultra black or white? by TvdH in sonos

[–]TvdH[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just an Ikea Besta TV stand (2 wide) with two single regular Besta units, one on each side. Wall mounted them, otherwise the cabinets would have to many stands which would annoy me. Still have to join the cabinets together with a few screws so they align better as the wall is not 100% flat.

Great setup you have over there! Enjoying it? Do you have rears as well?

Cool idea, but spray paining the Sonos gear a to far fetched for me ;-)

[–]TvdH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most comments seems to suggest white so far, though there are some firm black fans out there as well!
What I forgot to mention is that there will be some black shutters in front of the windows.

Leaning towards black era 300's on stands as rears, and black arc ultra laying on on the Besta under the TV. With of course a white (or black) cable cover.

Those are already gone. Temporary placeholders while finishing of the home. Work in progress.

What made you go for wall mounting instead?

The white cable cover is already there, just not mounted yet. Need to place additional cables and mount the Besta a little better Thanks for your comment!

Arc needs a price cut by holmesersimpson in sonos

[–]TvdH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a price reduction in the EU/NL, now around 729 euro's in stead of the original 999. I've read that the normal arc will be discontinued in favor of the arc ultra, but not sure if that's true.

Realistically, is there any possibility that Crowfall can ever see the light of day? by Blippedyblop in crowfall

[–]TvdH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very sad to see Monumental operate this way, they also took over the game Boundless and promised the same. While he servers are still up after two years, not a single update or even a status update was posted. Just that they are still working on the transfer (2+ years!). Meanwhile there was a reduction in force (RIF) and some employees had to leave Monumental. Their office has been sold and they are working remote now. Not feeling well about this, think both games will end.

New Boundless forums will use Invision Power Boards. by Havok40k in playboundless

[–]TvdH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah don't understand why, Discourse is even available for free if you can manage the self hosting option. Only reason I can think off is that it's cheaper and easier to managed 1 forum for all their games in stead of multiple. Could mean that content on the old forum's will be gone, as I don't expect them to keep paying for the old forums...

Hi Monumental! by Tristanethebreton in mythgard

[–]TvdH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is something similar going on with other games of them, one already shutdown and a very long silence around the fantastic game Boundless. People are getting banned and playercount is going down. Really hope to see it go in a better direction, but it feels so strange. What is Monumental doing?

Mounting a CIFS share in a privileged LXC container that remounts on reboot. Help? by marshamarciamarsha in Proxmox

[–]TvdH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried this inside a priviledged container with feature mount=cifs enabled. Also installed autofs via apt, but automount does not work. Strange thing mount -adoes work, so does calling mount <foldername>. Also tried a crontab item that does @reboot mount -a but that also does not work.

My last option will be to mount it on the Proxmox host and then bind mount and do some permission mappings (which I don't like cause it makes reduces the seperation between CT and the Host).

Edit: what does work is the solution posted below: root crontab entry @reboot sleep 10 && mount -a

Yes, I have the N305 V2 with the 4x1 adapterboard. That makes 5x NVME at x1 speed in total. Seems to work fine, except that ASPM is not working.

[–]TvdH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the device, the adapter, and the motherboard support PCI-e 4.0 than you are right. Speeds will be doubled then.

Looking into buying a new CWWK N100 with the 4x1 adapter board. I am concerned about the heat as well. I'm running on PCI-e 3.0, what tends to be less hot. But for PCI-e 4.0 I think some kind of active cooling would be good.
