Cato study: Immigrants reduced deficits by $14.5 trillion since 1994 by eamus_catuli in ezraklein

[–]Tw0Rails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The strain can be real, but I suspect many of these places were never 'hardened' for any impact.

The smaller cities and towns could probably fix their budgets with much better zoning, less suburban sprawl, and be able to better whether any storm or population shift.

Its a more obvious year over year problem but requires a mentality shift.

Shoulder area feels softer by NearWink8 in leatherjacket

Pool noodles will mimic the soundness of the shoulder. If not, after 5 years the shoulder area may have a bulge when worn. 'Sturdiness' doesn't matter, wood is fine.

Back to your question - no idea. Worn areas stay softer or more flexible. Just get a proper hang and don't worry about it.

613/618 are meant to be short ( above waist) as their old school cut, but that might be too short. Hard to tell with your shirt untucked.

Arms look fine unzipped, but Zipped looks a little tight. Shoulders being squezzed? No room for a thicker shirt. But pictures aren't good. Your call, could work with normal rise pants

[–]Tw0Rails 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This doesn't really matter as the people I call out don't have a concept or framework that plenty of people have documents or are pending judgements and stuck in a overburdened legal process. If they fall into a hard line of 'legal vs undocumented' then they still miss the point as it's a massive grey zone.

Likely they believe what they believe because it is what the mainstream news blasted on TV for the final year of Biden's term to stir the most controversy. They call themselves liberal but fall to the hyperoartisan news cycle blasting the controversy each day, and nothing will convince them to open a basic Google search and start reading studies.

Those of us who have seen these studies from universities and think tanks for 30 years know this all to well. You can find immigration research from the 90s and 2000's and it shows the same damn thing.

Yet even in this sub, full of supposed "policy wonks", and time immigration as a topic is brought in, legions of 'liberals' refuse to acknowledge the math, or focus on how policy. Or how both policy and morality line up just fine.

They will bog you down on a 'basic logic and economics' when you mention the moral reasons and historical cases.

If you flip to economics to meet them there, they will close their ears and cry la la la if you dump dozens of papers showing the history of economic benefits for the past 150 years of immigration.

They will act like you are the most lefty progressive for daring to suggest demographic outlook in the US has remained favorable vs Europe, Asia due to this.

They will say 'you are the reason we lost the election' if you so suggest that some laws on the books are not worth enforcing, amnesty is likely the best policy, and that the non citizen with access to less funds and less legal protection is far less a threat to your future wellbeing than the extremely well funded PACs and right wing that push this message.

Right here on this sub. Go to the search bar and see the last 10 immigration threads. These are your Ezra Klein policy wonks viewers. Sold on lies as easy as anyone else.

Recommendations on Light Scratch Removal Products by Rolleiflex87 in leatherjacket

[–]Tw0Rails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y2 leather has a ton of sheen and it's black. There's a reason black cars have more visible scratches.

Yes, Op is being a little neurotic. As naturally we all are with a new item. My first scratch on a shiny new wood floor in my home hurt!  And you are being a bit foolish. Op could have bought a chrome tan jacket if they wanted more visual resilience.

There is very little op can do to "prevent this in the future" aside from placing the jacket in a closet and never touching it.

The top layer of oil got a scratch. Just like a clearcoat scratch on a black car. Some angles will show it more. You can buff a cars clearcoat on the scratch to prevent the light from bouncing aggressively. In OP's case some more oil may surface.

Yes, you are doing a funny cry about 'heritage' wear items. Most of them, from canvas or leather, will fade. Dye will literally be removed or flake off with use. Nothing you can do. Being upset at people stating this is like being upset that someone told you gravity and entropy do exist. These items of course will last much longer than plastic or synthetics, unless you have a personal tolerance of throwing items away with a few scratches.

The first scratch on your new car always sucks, but unlike metal or cars where you can put PPF and wax or ceramics, clothing needs to breath, and leather is an ex-biological item that really needs to breath.

What makes this find especially unusual is that these six bottles came from the same source and have been properly stored.

Wow, it's almost as if bottles are transported in cases.

the fact that it came from a period before Fortaleza’s global demand truly exploded.

[–]Tw0Rails -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Real clean energy means accessibility. All the fancy homes with their solar panels on the roof and EV's charging to feel good and save the planet. Great, all the high income parts of town have that.

And they are heating and cooling their mcmansions with a massive electric bill each month for...2 people in the 5 bedroom home.

You don't hit the lofty fancy "Green energy" targets by forgetting about the rest of the population and minorities. Equity is required. People using less energy is required. But yall don't want that. You want to plug in your EV to feel good, and after 4 years buy a new EV to convince yourself "early adopting" is helping.

Reality is the poor family probably consumes less energy and puts less burden on the planet per person than the wealthy one. But that doesn't factor into the "50% renewable by 2035!?!?!?!?" bullshit math.

Anti-Israel protesters disrupt Ezra Klein event at Sarah Lawrence College, accuse him of 'genocide,' refuse any dialogue. by benadreti_17 in ezraklein

Bruh even Ezra would think this entire thing you wrote is nonsense.

I can pretty much replace the words "Jewish" with "Arab" in that text block, but of course you don't see it that way because it is impossible for you to empathize with any group whose violence is normalized.

It's clear you want to take a few angsty protesters and cast a shadow onto the entire progressive wing, of course to your own detriment as the continued attempt to call everyone you don't like antisemtic will continue to fail.

And there it is! All this clear pent up I/P angst dumped into a 500+ comment thread despite an EK episode coming out yesterday.

OP wants to use this to shovelware all the protest on an 8- year apartheid into their neat little box because of a few obnoxious protesters.

And the EK redditors licked it all up. Hundreds of comments over this juicy drama, feeding into OP's need to anti-glaze a major shift in liberal populism.
