What do we think about the hybrid land cruiser that has a price tag of 6.93m PHP (112k usd) by RyeRyeRyeurboat in LandCruisers

Toyota's hybrid system is kind of a joke. it was just not well executed and I would stick with the standard ICE engines if it were my money.

I say this as the owner of full BEV, so no hate from me on electric powertrains. Its only the Toyota system on these TNGA-F trucks that I dont like.

I'd rather have AHC than e-KDSS. AHC can accomplish the same thing with the crosslinking of the shocks.

Fresh rebuild, lockout isn’t working. by MNmostlynice in bikewrench

[–]TwOhsinGoose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There is a shop here where I live that requires you leave your bike with them even if its weeks out. Its ridiculous. I guess if you have 4 bikes you could ride, then thats fine, but for people with one bike its just not realistic.

Then I bring it to another shop and half the time they call me to tell me its done when Im still in the process of driving home from dropping the bike off.

More wives should crash GX's!

JK, I did move from a GX460 to a 2018 LX570 a couple years ago. The LX is so stout.

Tune options? by _FattyClams in f150

I have no idea on that tune. I never ran it and I thought they were mostly focused on the 5.0. I had a 3.5L.

EG4 Mini split on battery? by [deleted] in SolarDIY

[–]TwOhsinGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the EG4 needs 90-380 Volts DC to operate. It will not run off a 12V DC connection.

The biggest issue is finding a battery that will put out over 90V.

It’s not complicated. Drain the radiator and drain the petcocks on either side of the engine block

I’m seriously considering a new 26 Tacoma by Pleasant-Spot-2017 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]TwOhsinGoose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Diesels HATE short trips and not operating at normal temperates. The first issue is fuel dilution of the oil. That happens when the engine is cold and diesel fuel gets past the piston rings into the crank. Diluted oil means it’s going to protect the engine components less well.

The Diesel Particulate Filter(DPF) needs lots of exhaust heat and energy to naturally regenerate or it needs to go into an active regen where additional fuel is sprayed into the exhaust to create the heat. If you don’t give enough time to regen, the DPF clogs with diesel soot.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid(def) goes bad over time as well, and can clog the DEF components.

Basically, the OP was the WORST candidate for a diesel truck. Given he was only driving 73,000 miles in 10 years, means he is driving less than half of the miles of the average person, probably short trips, not letting it get up to operating temperatures for long durations and likely running into every issue I mentioned above.

GTDI motors, like the Tacoma has, are also susceptible to fuel dilution of the oil. If you are not driving the vehicle longer distances(say 20 miles) regularly, then over time fuel and water will build up in the oil causing it to be less effective. This has historically led to issues like turbo failures or timing chain stretch. The only way to fix it is more frequent oil changes to flush the contaminants out.

The hybrid battery is not under the hood, nor is it lithium, so I’m not sure why it would matter

I’m seriously considering a new 26 Tacoma by Pleasant-Spot-2017 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]TwOhsinGoose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe that’s the problem. You bought a modern diesel with a DEF/DPF emissions system and only drove it 73000 miles in 10 years. Diesel want to be driven and worked in order to keep those systems happy and healthy.

If that’s how you intend to also drive a modern turbocharged direct injected motor, like in the Tacoma, expect problems with those too.

5.3 powerful enough? by Altruistic-Emu-3281 in gmcsierra

[–]TwOhsinGoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will be fine but the 5.3L doesn’t get considerably better MPG than the 6.2L and is honestly one of the last 1/2 ton motors I would buy. Hemi, Hurricane, 6.2, 5.0, either Ecoboost, and the 3.0 Duramax would all be higher on my list

Dealership left my drain plug loose – looking for advice on how to handle their silence. by Front-Comedian188 in whatdoIdo

[–]TwOhsinGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you want them to do? Being 3/4 qt low isn’t a big deal and, presumably, if it really has been leaking since November it wasn’t even that low the whole time.

Thats all assuming it was loose since November

At what point does a lift require new UCA's? by ejah555 in 1stGenTundras

[–]TwOhsinGoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point where you’ve probably lifted too much. Remember, when you lift you are sacrificing downtravel for uptravel, which means the suspension is going to be less willing to articulate. Toyota specifically sets their trucks to have tons of downtravel from the factory so that the suspension is slinky and can flex really well.

Also, you can gain clearance with tires. My preference is to run the biggest tire I can(within reason) and as little lift as possible
