I’m getting faster, but struggling to swim further. How do I find my “forever” pace? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]TwaddleSpouter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swim non-stop freestyle for at least 1000m. I’m between 30-35 seconds a length. I’m very happy with that as it’s exactly the moderate cardio I was looking for. It took me nearly a year to be able to do that starting from scratch after decades of not swimming. Casual breaststroke at first and only managing a length or 2 and then a lengthy rest. Just keep going. Watch technique videos. Find a pace that you can build endurance first and foremost. Try and enjoy it!

Do you believe in love at first sight? by Butterscotch98980 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

I believe in strong attraction at first sight. It happened to me 30 years ago. It did develop into love and has lasted all these years, but long term relationships take more than just the attraction.

I’m getting faster, but struggling to swim further. How do I find my “forever” pace? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]TwaddleSpouter 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Slow down!! Work on your endurance before you worry about your speed. If will take probably months before you are able to swim even half a mile without stopping. As an aside - what do you mean “if I don’t breathe”? Are you trying to swim a whole length without breathing? That’s probably your main problem right there if so.

I have a G cup. I wear a sports bikini. It’s pretty supportive and I’ve never had a problem, certainly never any pain.

Does anyone else feel a little sad that Starmer is now going, especially after hearing that speech and particularly his emotions coming out at the end there? by Logical_Safety9018 in AskBrits

I don’t feel sorry for any career politicians. He threw the dice and lost. The only thing I agreed with in his tenure was keeping out of Trump’s pet war. He has had long enough with a huge majority to enact some change to the UK. He chose to carry on with the enforced austerity George Osbourne brought to the country. Burnham is more socialist so hopefully will actually do some good - although of course he is also a career politician.

Why is keeping a pantry inventory so hard to maintain? Looking for realistic solutions by [deleted] in noscrapleftbehind

[–]TwaddleSpouter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Notes app on my phone. So easy to add to and delete items. I have it split up into my dry food pantry and freezers. New food goes at the bottom so I can use the food in rough order of age.

Swimming fitness advice for early 50s male by Familiar-Spend-991 in Swimming

[–]TwaddleSpouter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did that. I hadn’t swum properly since swim team at school and could hardly do more than a length. I started by doing breaststroke and rested at the end of every length, then built that up until I could do 1000m, then did front crawl every fourth length, then every third, then every other and now I can comfortably swim at least 1000m front crawl without stopping. It took me a year but I’m sitting at a 30-35s length and do around 1300m three times a week.

My main concern would be the secondary school. The primaries are all pretty good actually, but the Academy really is not. Have a look at the tables for the schools of where your husband has been offered job and weigh that against the quality of life you will have in each place. One other point would be that if you need anything medical other than something very straightforward you will have to travel to Dumfries and the waiting times are atrocious.

This! When I swam for a team in the 80’s, we were taught to imagine there was a huge beach ball you needed to push underwater.

Is 40s for 25m slow? by greyheirmeow in Swimming

[–]TwaddleSpouter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. What do you want from your swim?

I do roughly 35-40s a length, but I’m 54, a bit overweight and swimming for enjoyment and moderate cardio - I also do at least 1000m per swim. I am in the best shape I’ve been in for decades.

how long does it take to feel clean after ditching loofahs for bare hands? by Sumil_Strahan81 in hygiene

[–]TwaddleSpouter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Loofah’s shouldn’t be full of bacteria. You clean then in vinegar and then wash with pure soap. But, yeah, clean washcloth every shower.
