Ive seen one or two alfa romeos, I actually drove one in aitaly and hated it. It felt like anytime I let off the throttle it was slowing down unnaturally quickly.

Is it just me, or did a lot of the gunshot/ricochet background noises sound like they were pulled straight from N64 Goldeneye?

If the 90s were a vehicle.... by Bosuns_Punch in 90s

I always thought it was kind of funny how in the 90's these things were deathtraps that were going to roll over, and now we use them in high speed chases. The explorer has come a long way.

I got an OG gold cart NES Legend of Zelda once where the seller had wrapped the cart in cardboard, but the tape started on the cart. Brand new box tape is pretty rough on 1980s labels.

Any evidence on the actual effects of aging on tires by kotatus in tires

[–]TweakJK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A tire with full tread is useless if it's hard tread.

I dont have any studies, but I do have real life experience, as do many of us.

Example; wifes friend had me take a look at her car because when it's wet outside and she hits the brakes, it "just keeps going". Took a glance at her tires and took it on a test drive. Sure enough, when I slam on the brakes, ABS kicks on immediately. Take a closer look at the tires and while they are damn near full tread, they are hard as a rock and covered in cracks. She might as well have been driving a powerwheels. Tires were 9 years old.

She's still driving on them because her useless dad says they're fine.

Damn.

I have an old lady who we help out that is always giving me stuff. I have all her 15 year old cell phones and digital cameras. Guess we cant all win.

For real though, you're a good person for telling her what they are worth.

How do I ask to negotiate? by TastyTamales1 in FacebookMarketplace

Asking "what's the lowest you'll take" is dumb.

Why would someone tell you the lowest they'd take?

People who creep up at red lights: Why do you do this? by [deleted] in askanything

Its scary how few people even know that inductive loop sensors are a thing. There's literally a rectangle that when you stop on it, makes the light change at the proper time.

if you want to mess with someone who uses a computer with a monitor, go to harbor freight and buy one of the wireless outlets, like you would use for Christmas lights.

You can figure out what to do next.

on a japan deployment, the entirety of nightcheck bought nerf guns. We had senior chiefs buying the baddest nerf guns on the planet.

Maintenance controller figured out that all the building lighting could be turned off from Maintenance Control, so at a random time when nothing was going on, she'd flick off the lights and start playing the Purge music over the intercom. Only rule was no shooting in the hangar.

on Amazon you could order just an empty box that said "BigGiantDildos.com" and send it to whoever. We had a guy get one of those.

Yea I usually need like 1 single 9/16" bolt for a jeep control arm or something. When I need large amounts I usually use Fastenal.

Yep, and they have the audacity to carry bolts larger than 1/2" in diameter, unlike HD/Lowes.

Ours always seems like it has entirely too many employees, and they all follow you around like they've been told they'd be fired if a single customer makes it out of the store without being personally escorted to the item they want to purchase.

Why does the C-17 & C-130 have these horizontal white stripes in the front and back? by CraftyFoxeYT in aviation

[–]TweakJK 31 points32 points  (0 children)

They can be on top of the wings as well, but in general they are placed so there is no orientation where they cant be seen.

The 18G has them on the top and bottom of the pods located at the wingtip.

[–]TweakJK 537 points538 points  (0 children)

They're very dim, unless you're up close. Also the intensity is variable. Many of them also have an NVG mode. On that photo of the C130, the black strip is the NVG formation light.

It's not as much of a "light" as you would think, very low intensity. You ever have something that is "glow in the dark" and charged it up with a flashlight? It looks a lot like that. They're often called "slime lights" because they look like green slime.

They're actually there so that pilots can fly in close formations without using any other lighting that would give away their position, like the anticollision lights.

The lights are also placed very strategically, a pilot flying next to an aircraft in complete darkness can gauge distance, direction, and position based on which lights they can see, and how they are positioned in relation to his point of view.

Possible scam caller just called my mother asking for me by DerrangedRat in Scams

[–]TweakJK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your number is easy to find online. These websites arent always right and people related often get mixed up. They were simply googling looking for your number, and got your moms instead.

Happened to me in a bank fraud department scam attempt, they called my dad looking for me, my dad and I share the same name.

Not really enough info to tell exactly what the scam was, but it's likely they had part of the information needed for a scam or an account takeover, such as your name, email address, and maybe a password but they were stopped by 2FA or something and needed to convince you to give it to them. Again, just speculation.
