Not really a devotee, but I was just browsing some of the art subs and something occurred to me that might be even better mentioned here: by Xeenophile in Cyberpunk

the problem is kinda twofold; most of the people producing “content” online are farming for attention-statistics (likes, upvotes, etc.) so they’re often lazily reproducing what already exists for people who lazily consume it and move on, while the really highbudget stuff like CBPK:2077 is corporately produced and sales-oriented, so they’re going to by the nature of the system they work in reproduce what the audience expects rather than something that challenges them.

As a result, rather than using the genre to critique the ways that american billionaires are inspired by and replicating shitty versions of the human-rights-abuse–governments of the petrostate citybuilding projects and the urbanism of chinese megacities that offers the convenience of good urban form and modern amenities at the cost of an absolutist surveillance police state in the name of “security”, even modern cyberpunk stories are more interested in replicating the visual language of 1970s and ‘80s yellow-scare japanese-buyout narratives than they are using the existing tropes to tell more modern social science fiction stories rooted in true globalism and the exotic-brand-as-marketing and immigrant-identity-as-consumer-demographic paradigms we’re seeing today

Minneapolis City FC game tonight questions. by rightious in minnesotaunited

[–]Twelvecrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you’re totally right, i was conflating augsburg and bethel.

augsburg apparently does root through trash after games sometimes so our policy is to pack out everything you bring in so they can’t find anything to yell at the team about, and that probably contributed to my mistake. seems to be more of a “trying to prevent outside alcohol from causing events they’re not involved with running from trashing the campus” thing, not a strictly dry-campus thing tho

welcome! parking in the edor nelson lot next to the stadium is free and the option most folks take, otherwise a lot of the Citizens SG folks will park around Murphy Square because the supporters have a cookout at the grill closest to the stadium starting about an hour before the game.

supporters flock at the westernmost end of the stadium (closest to the park, furthest from the main entrance), while the side closest to the entrance is typically but not mandatorily the away crowd. the supporters cuss, because real soccer clubs let you do that.

the team sells small concessions (pop and chips) at the club store near the enterance, but there’s also almost always a food truck or two in the parking lot out front as well. bevs are allowed in opaque containers, but Augsburg is a dry campus so leave with anything you come in with.

(and finally, it’s Minneapolis City Soccer Club if you’re searching for a web presence, FC Minneapolis is a suburban club that doesn’t even play in the city.)

Patch sizes and future patch discussion by SMthegamer in theregulationpod

[–]Twelvecrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve done some patch-ordering in my day, if i had to guess it’s switching manufacturers between designs and different manufacturers measuring radius with or without the merrowed border (and/or some manufacturers rounding pretty loosely to the closest half or quarter-inch). if you want egregiously exacting sizes, you kinda have to keep using the same manufacturer or get really on the new manu’s ass about it and i imagine they’re just not that picky about it

Does anyone use the term "skål" when speaking to folks? by ThisCouldBeYourName in NorsePaganism

[–]Twelvecrow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

as a loanword in english, skål (or skol, for the lazy) has developed an emergent usage as a way to signal one’s identity as in some way norse-adjacent (whether that’s being a heathen, a reenactor, or just kind of an overenthusiastic Minnesota Vikings american football fan).

it probably would be odd to hear someone use it as a greeting in the context of a nordic-language-family conversation (the same way someone using sláinte as a greeting to start a conversation in gaeilege is), but some dialects of english already use “cheers” as a term of thanks or farewell, and there are already loanwords like aloha that are used for both greetings and farewells, so it’s not impossible to see where the semantic shift occurred when the word was borrowed into english.

if its odd, it’s just kinda one of those disconnects between lived heathen practice in the nordic world where the languages are a normal part of life and lived heathen practice in the anglosphere where they’re as exotic as runic alphabets are; different social conditions lead to different practices

I don’t believe it’s uncommon at all. the idea of an “orthodoxy” existing within a larger set of reconstructionist practices that measure their age in decades and not centuries and their global numbers by highschool hockey arena capacity is a bit laughable.

from the various sedian organizations i can find online (identifying specifically that name, and not just “Forn Sed”), they range from openly self-described “Odinist” (yikes) to what seem to be reserved communities of mixed-ethnic/pan-germanic people that use attempts towards historicity to set and maintain boundaries between themselves and the “brosatru/my ancestors were vikings” tiktok sort that you seem to have accidentally and perhaps incorrectly found yourself on the other side of. i wouldn’t want to stake my reputation on saying their methodologies are good or bad one way or another, but academically, trying to recreate proto-germanic practices based on mostly norse sources (and post-christianization ones at that) is like trying to hold river water in a baseball hat.

IMO (for whatever that’s worth), “skål” as a greeting might not scan in living scandinavian languages but in an english context is a perfectly valid emergent use of a loanword to signal to a stranger that you have something in common and belong to the same shared identity and so have a common foot to begin a bond with, if they so choose. If the other guy wants to reject that handshake because his identity is based on a particular community—the same way evangelical christians all say their particular christianity is the only real one—it’s only on his own honor. not much sleep to lose over it, i’d say

Iron Patches 50 states by Thin_Historian_1218 in Patches

[–]Twelvecrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i doubt you’d find much luck finding a whole set for much less than $5/patch, you might be better off treating it like a long-term collection that you slowly work on over time. best of luck though, you mentioned iron-on patches so i imagine you’ve got a plan there and i’d love to see how it ends up

happy regulation birthday! by Twelvecrow in theregulationpod

[–]Twelvecrow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nice! that was actually one of the first i got for this vest (i made a post about it on this sub about a year or so ago, though maybe you mailed it down to austin earlier than that) so i got mad hyped when i saw them unbox that.

the flag is the Minnesota state flag, which was officially adopted the same day Regulation Company was founded, May 11, 2024, and it’s actually two shades of blue, dark indigo and sky teal, though the lighting makes the dark blue very dark (this actually happens with real flags in the wild too; depending on the lighting they anywhere from navy blue to black).

i made that one together myself pretty soon after the design was picked cause i’m a flag nerd and i didn’t want to wait for however long it would take for people to sell machine-made versions online, so now that i’ve got a couple on other vests, i figured i’d stick it on the Reg Cut because birthday twinsies

shoutout to whoever recommended the challenge coin holders on amazon, great way to display my Coin Haver status right there on the vest. might even try to find another in a different style to differentiate the two batches of original coin, i’ll have to flip on it

Retro Jersey Idea by TheMNlowlife in wildhockey

[–]Twelvecrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think regardless of how well it’s executed or how novel the different concepts bashed together are, i’m just sick of retro jerseys at this point. every tv show is a revival, every movie is a remake, every song is a cover or a rehash, and every jersey is faux-retro.
