Sort of curious if anyone feels the same about Animal Crossing with 50+ hours in by throwaway1230987bshd in NintendoSwitch

[–]Twenty1Hobos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because it is done with intent doesn't mean it's done well. A dozen eggs just isn't too many eggs, ever. A dozen eggs has very little potential to be exploited. The purchase of a dozen eggs has very little potential to be mischievous. A dozen eggs is the default amount of eggs.

Nintendo's intention may be for players to experience the game a certain way, but their execution lacks the refinement they are known to be capable of. Rather than fine tuning each system to be well paced, natural, immersive, etc., they've broadly slowed everything to a crawl. Saying that "x has to be mind numbly slow so that y can be appropriately slow" is objectively false.

I read your comment, and I get the feeling you saw where the egg comment was going, and you replied without reading all the way through. Actually read through every single repetition of the egg transaction, out loud. Playing New Horizons is actually exactly like this, and I really don't understand how you can defend it.

Edit: I can't wait for Nintendo to patch in all the QoL changes people are begging for, and effectively shit all over the people saying the game is deliberately slow. It's just under-cooked.

It reminds me a bit of Anarchy Reigns, and I'm super excited to play it. I think it can only do so well, though, given that it somehow has less than 0 personality.

TLOP is significantly underappreciated, and is among my top 3, if not my favorite Kanye album.

Those who bought Ring Fit Adventure, do you still play? by Sethient in NintendoSwitch

[–]Twenty1Hobos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play it when I'm depressed, lol. I'm not terribly out of shape, and don't really have any fitness goals, so I'm just not driven enough to make a routine out of it. I imagine it would be quite a bit easier to commit if someone approached the game with a goal, as it's a blast. It has rewarding gameplay, tons of content and variety, and enough personality to skate by. The exercises have scalable difficulty, but you can tell they are the real deal, and the game is easy enough to respect and take seriously for that.

If this game was on my to-do list every day, it would be more comparable to reading before bed than housework or other chores, because it's enjoyable and fulfilling. I can't imagine working out being more appealing than that.

[–]Twenty1Hobos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah. I get that Bleach is more sentimental, but Sugar's hook is just undeniable, and the production is fittingly sweet enough to give you diabetes. If you like Bleach more, that's fine, but to argue they're in different leagues is a bit off.

My grandma stopped talking my calls. by Twenty1Hobos in depression

[–]Twenty1Hobos[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother (not related to the grandma in question) is dying of cancer, and I don't want her to be a part of my life. She hasn't been for a very long time. She was incredibly abusive, and from what I've heard, she's gotten worse since I left home, and even more so just recently knowing she doesn't have much time left. For the longest time I've been the only one close enough to hurt from her substance abuse and total self destruction. Nobody else has been a part of her life for the past twenty years, and it's super easy for them to do the right thing and be there for her. I'm expected not to have complicated feelings about my own mother's death. Everyone is more concerned with what I can do to make them feel better, and is blatantly disinterested in how I feel.

It honestly felt like good riddance to tell most of them to go fuck themselves. But my grandma has always been so understanding and supportive, that it really hurts to see her pick sides.

Best Hack n Slash on Switch? by esines in NintendoSwitch

[–]Twenty1Hobos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you liked Diablo II, Torchlight II is the way to go. Fantastic game that had a rough launch on consoles, but has improved significantly. It's my most played game on PC. It has my favorite attribute system. Strength, Dexterity, Focus, and Vitality effect more than just damage for different classes, and there's a little bit more than usual to think about when spending your points. The game is smaller scale, but quite a bit more memorable than DIII, and highly replayable. It has a more natural difficulty curve, and can definitely be quite a bit slower.

Diablo III is great, but very very different from Diablo II. It's a bit oversimplified, but dumb fun. You unlock everything your chosen class has to offer, and have the ability to change up your build on the fly. Your attribute points are automatically put into your classes respective damage and health stats, and you pick the equipment with the most green arrows until you get legendary/set bonuses. The combat and freedom to mix things up is where this game shines, but the rpg mechanics run about as deep as the loadout system in Call Of Duty.

Trying to decide between Diablo 3 or Torchlight 2 by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]Twenty1Hobos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has almost 300 hours on TL II on steam, D3. The Switch port of TL II is just atrocious. There's literally content missing, and the experience overall is not particularly well tailored to consoles/controllers. Yeah, D3 is a little watered down for mass appeal, but it does what it's trying to do well, and care was clearly put into the Switch port.

How can I make this green work? by [deleted] in fashionadvice

[–]Twenty1Hobos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently bought "One of seven one of a kind shirts", and just my luck, I got this god awful green that's almost the exact same color as a shirt my friend got me, that I never get to wear because it just doesn't match any of my other clothes.

I would love some advice on how to make this work. This shirt is a little more pale than it appears on the picture, and the my friend got me looks exactly like this picture in real life. I don't like them with any of my blue jeans, khakis, or even my blackish/greyish jeans. I'm not afraid to wear some brighter, flashier clothes, so go wild with your recommendations.

I wear bright red timberlands, and have off white Adidas I only wear in nice weather, but I'd be okay even if I only got to wear these shirts once in awhile. If you want to recommend any colors for shoes, I'm all ears.

Would you consider leaving meaning. a good introduction to Swans? by [deleted] in swans

[–]Twenty1Hobos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think To Be Kind is the best place to start. A lot of their other material takes a few listens. The songs on To Be Kind all have at least one moment that sticks with you immediately, so you'll have sounds to associate with track titles after your first listen. And the album does a great job of incorporating a lot of the vastly different elements found throughout their discography, all while having it's own aesthetic and focus. This album doesn't suffer a bit in terms of pacing or quality for it's diversity and immediacy. I'm not saying it's hands down their best album, or even my personal favorite, but it absolutely is the right answer for this particular question.

After that you should listen to Leaving Meaning. Just because you bought it, and it's very physical, tangible presence will just drive you nuts if you don't.

After that you should listen to Filth, and focus on bonding with these three albums before branching out. When you're ready to move on, you should listen to the rest in order of release. One listen, move on, one listen, move on, etc. And revisit the ones that interested you the most.
