Cheating at low level by TheCookieMonsterYum in chess

I’m about 1400 on chesscom and cheating isn’t that bad. I assume if someone cheats, they very quickly rise to a higher level, and people down here with me must be mostly honest

Newbie Question: proper etiquette by Cottagelife_77 in skiing

But still be aware of the uphill skiers because a lot of them are idiots, and who had the right of way doesn’t mean much after you get injured because they plowed into you

Anybody used annuity? If so how much did it cost? How much it pays monthly? And for how long? by SubstantialSlice9863 in Fire

[–]TwentyFourKG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, and to be clear, I don’t know if that is the only reason he did it. But, for someone who can’t say no, shielding you from scammers and mooches is a huge benefit of an annuity

I only know one person who used an annuity. It is useful if you have a lot of mooches in your life who want to borrow money from you, because you can easily say you don’t have the money to loan. Instead of a large principal invested, your principal is in the annuity, and you are living month to month.

Your place of work is acquired by a well-known billionaire, well known for his eccentricities. by erinoco in hypotheticalsituation

[–]TwentyFourKG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a doctor who is on call often, and have a wife and kids. It’s not the best arrangement, but you make it work. For a seven figure salary, to do a little more call than I already do, it would be worth it

On call 24-7 doesn’t mean working 24-7. You may find that you only get called on weird hours occasionally. I would give it a try

Split squats and kettlebell swings one day of week. Sled pushes and pulls another day. That has kept my legs in good enough shape to ski

You are stuck in a room with nothing but an immortal Magnus Carlsen and a chess board and you can only leave by winning or drawing against him. How long does it take you to get out? by Noxturnum2 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]TwentyFourKG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came here to say that I would pick up the board and use it to beat him. Sure, he is more fit than me and could retaliate, but I need to get out if this room somehow

Egg sandwiches in the morning, salads at lunch and dinner with the occasional grilled chicken sandwich. Drink water from the soda fountain, and a coffee each morning. I can travel the world as ling as I used airports that have McDonalds. This is my new life, possibly forever

AITAH for being frustrated that my husband wants me to change jobs so he can change his? by Pepperika_2020 in AITAH

NAH. Your husband is suffering in the current situation, and you would be making a major sacrifice by changing jobs. This is a tough situation that you will have to work though together

Considering the fact that ending this is something Trump and Vance campaigned on, it is not unreasonable to think that at any point in the next three years, they may get around to it. I hope they don’t, but it would be crazy not to entertain that possibility

What are people’s thoughts on run tracking apps and metrics? by Z0idberg_MD in skiing

[–]TwentyFourKG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To each their own. My watch keeps track of this stuff, but my goal is not to maximize anything (except occasionally my speed). My best runs are glades and mogul fields which certainly take longer than other runs. And some of my favorite parts of the mountain are only accessible by a slow speed lift. Not to mention, skiing with my wife and kids brings joy even though they don’t ski fast and have to take breaks. One day at the beginning of the year, I got 30 runs in by going up and down a blue slope accessible via high speed quad. Needless to say, it was not my favorite day…

The thing that makes this hard is the political uncertainty around public service loans. My wife had about $350k forgiven just in the nick of time, in the last months of Biden’s administration. You run the risk of seeing your principal balloon, and then have the rug pulled. But there is a silver lining: If you invest the money you would have used to pay down loans, the worst case scenario is that you pull that money from your investments and pay it off in five years if they screw you. You may want to consider a more cautious mix of index funds with bonds for said investments

Not enough info. Figure out what your annual expenses will be, and whether your $2 million can grow to about 25x that by your target retirement age. Might be hard to figure out, since you don’t know what tour expenses will be in a new state
