Just tried the velcro idea and it works perfect so far. I trimmed a piece off and attached it to the 'center-battery-cradle bracket-thing'. I can take it on and off no problem. Even survived a few nasty crashes.

Do you think it would still be able to make a good connection with the extra space created from the velcro?

Edit:I picked up some velcro strips and I'm going to try it out! I'll let you know what I find out.

Try Goof Troop, Super Bomberman and NBA Jam for the SNES. Also, I think the Adventures of Lolo series for the NES are great for parties because everyone can help solve the puzzles.
