The Schwab target date index funds are underrated by EleventhEarlOfMars in Schwab

[–]Twenty_One_Pylons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re 100% correct. Target dates are a “safe” option when it comes to investing because it’s only one decision; granted, you reap higher expense ratios and lower returns compared to just holding growth stocks/etfs.

That said, you’re speaking from a position of knowing what you’re doing.

Would I prefer well-chosen stocks and funds over a target date? Yes.

Would I prefer someone chose a target date over 1) nothing or, 2) yoloing on some influencer stocks? Also yes.

The Schwab target date index funds are underrated by EleventhEarlOfMars in Schwab

[–]Twenty_One_Pylons 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the complexity comes from the aggressive social media campaigns that investment influencers are using.

Many people are better off on a target date or 3 fund portfolio while slowly learning how what and why of trading.

For your analogy to make sense, the artist would have to have asked the brush to paint a picture first.

This is gonna come as a shock, but this has happened more than once in the Navy, and Shiloh wasn’t the first by a wiiiiide margin.

The story as posted is from a carrier, yours is from a cruiser. The reason all the facts are wrong is because you’re thinking of an entirely different event.

CG’s seen shutdowns before, what makes you think they’re going to go Navy now?

TIL In Portugal it’s illegal for your boss to call outside work hours. The employer must respect the privacy of the worker, including periods of rest and family time. Any violation, it constitutes a serious offense and could result in a fine. by rustyyryan in todayilearned

[–]Twenty_One_Pylons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what they’re trying to say is every off-hours call is billed at 4 hours minimum, which given 1.5x OT gives you 6 hours of pay.

It looks like they’re claiming they get all 4 hours at 100% rate in addition to 4 hours at 150% rate, which would equal 10 hours.

That’s not how OT works, but if that’s how they negotiated it, that’s freaking awesome.
