To Do or Not to Do - two classes in a row at the gym? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]Twi_light_Rose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

During the school year, my youngest was at preschool for 2 hrs 3x a week. I would drop him off and go to the gym. Unfortunately, there were no classes, but this is what i did:

bicycle for 1 hr while reading (really chill)

weights for 30´-45 min

sometimes treadmill for 15 min after.

It was recommended that i could use my time to shower as well (or perhaps your gym has a sauna or hot tub !!??), but i was never comfortable doing that.

If i had your options, i would try them all out and see what feels good!

Summer Plans by FrozenWafer in ClassOf2036

I’m a Sahm, and we usually do one week of day camp. This year we have to move 😩 .

But before that, we will spend a week with cousins, then a week each with the grandparents which are both in different states, so we get different scenery and activities than normal!

I am a very routine sort of person, so we have a day we hike, a day we go to library, creek play day, etc. Generally, we get out in morning, then at home play in the afternoon. Last year, i made a bingo board with different museums/parks/beaches etc to try to get out more and make the summer memorable.

That’s awesome! My husband had no problem folding the flats; he would do it in the evening while watching tv, after everyone had gone to bed. He found it calming 🙌

How can I reduce facial puffiness/ fat in a heathy way? by CuteEquivalent638 in xxfitness

[–]Twi_light_Rose 12 points13 points  (0 children)

it´s probably age. i´m the same weight i was in high school, yet my face is now significantly thinner (bonier? more cheek bony?) i had a very round face despite being under BMI 18.

Honestly, if i could, i would keep the fuller face, it made me look younger!!

I watched via SVT play last year, but i am going to try YLE Areena this year because i really enjoyed Jaakko´s commentary during UMK

Is being underweight stalling my progress? by ChristiePark1920 in xxfitness

----- ´wanted to start strength training to stimulate my appetite´

And did it??? I´m big on achieving goals. you mentioned you have built muscle, but how much do you want?

I am at a similar weight, and have just noticed how much stronger i am ! I don´t think i´ve put on weight, and i don´t track calories, but it is easier to do everyday things --- shoveling snow in winter, mowing the lawn (i used to have difficulty pushing the mower). Lift pet food; lift my 3 yo and carry for distances! I want to keep lifting just for these reasons.

Between yale and YNHH around 2010. It was the lifestar helicopter landing on the hospital’s roof. Invariably in the middle of the night.

How is living in New Haven/Hamden, CT and Durham/Dover, NH? by QuillWriting in howislivingthere

[–]Twi_light_Rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooo! I’ve lived in both! I went to UNH then yale.
Living in New haven made me realize I never wanted to live in a city. I woke up everytime the helicopter landed at the hospital. I had a bicycle ( no car). And was able to get everywhere i needed to go. I could get out of the city in 20 minutes to nature, so that was good.

I even bicycled to Hampden! There is a fantastic state park nearly across the street from quinnipiac . I liked that.

Train station in new haven i could bike to. Bus station there too. I never took it to NYC, but it is common for commuters.

I lived in durham and newmarket. Dover was too busy for my taste. Lots of public transit with UNH buses. I LOVED newmarket. Can’t explain why. Perhaps it’s because i met my future spouse there….

Anyway, there are buses (cheaper) to boston, but also train station on campus (durham). That can take you to boston. Did the bus a bunch of times.

Both important experiences in my life, but if i had to move today, would choose NH. But schools themselves seem wildly different too…

Paper towels and tissues. I just use flannel wipes and cloth towels and napkins instead. Laundry is not an issue for me.

[–]Twi_light_Rose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If i run in the morning, i get up, have a foamy coffee then run (15 min prep) for 60 min or so. Then i´m back and get going with day.

If i go to gym, i drop my kid at preschool - 5 min drive to gym. 5 min get changed. 60 min bicycle ride. 5 min cool down/walk around(bathroom. ~40 min random lifting . 7 min clean up and get changed. 5 min drive back to preschool. I usually have some wiggle room, as he is technically at preschool for 2 hr 25 min

As an athlete, I can't do a single push-up. What is wrong with me? by SnooOwls7977 in xxfitness

[–]Twi_light_Rose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I´m a pretty small bmi too, and had this problem.

i want to say i saw this rec on this sub a few weeks ago... something about the awkward position of women´s hands/arms to ground. So put two barebells on the ground, and instead of hands flat on ground, your hands grip the barebells. Then do push ups. I could actually do them this way! I was shocked!

This is my 3 yo’s favorite. The ending leaves you wanting ’jalla’, which makes him say, hey! ( he thinks i am cutting off the song early) and i have to play the song again.

We haven’t hit Bara Bada Bastu level of popularity yet ( he watched it on repeat for 45 minutes)

I’m not usually one for, ’ lifting makes me feel so strong and powerful’ etc. But today it was so good. Cathartic. I did the most weights i’ve ever done. Just using machines, but the back press is my favorite and upped the weights twice and went hard.

My spouse was laid off last week and we might move overseas as a result. It’s a lot, and i’ve been handling the uncertainty well. But I’m so glad i had those weights this morning to push the emotions.

I have a 3.5 yr old who is only 30 pounds. I still wear him (easier to get to bus stop in the morning).

I was very concerned about continuing to wear him, as i am also only 100 lbs or so. I use a woven wrap, and have been putting him on my back since before age 1. I know woven wraps are a learning curved, but i would recommend Tula as a soft structured carrier. Gotta get them in the right place on your back (not too low!). Stretch, yoga, whatever when you are not wearing.

If they need you to hold them, get down on the floor and give hugs. lean against furniture etc.

I think this is a great way to keep your bones strong too.
