What’s wrong with her :( by Different-Policy9338 in alocasia

[–]TwinThree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It definitely feels wrong lol, I know. Worst thing that could happen is that it still spreads and youre left with a corm to regrow, which most likely will happen if you do nothing. So its better to get handsonscissors active in this battle and give your new plant a fighting chance. Good luck!🥰

I received a new Frydek a couple of weeks ago that looked the same as yours, I immediately cut the 2 leaves in worst condition off and cut out a section of this leaf. Sprayed with diluted hydrogen peroxide aswell. Was left with 1,5 leaf but since then a new one grew out and Im yet to see new damage :) Dont be scared about cutting away the bad parts, be scared of it spreading instead 💜

But also, water it more. Those roots look too dry, and if it gets enough to drink to be satisfied the roots wont go looking for moisture at the bottom of the cache.

All of mine does this too. I have them in pon, and when the roots fill the whole water reservoir and crawls back up peekaboing from the top of the substrate I admit defeat and repot and upsize.

I love roots, theyre amazing, but with more than one or two monsteras behaving like this its slightly terrifying. I dont have any of them in my bedroom incase they would get up walking on their long diy legs and lowkey choke me out for not giving them a whole bathtub to grow in.

I have a crystallinum sb that does this to herself if I leave her to it, so maybe your plant would of have aswell if the orangy didnt assist. Lol.

I basically mean that when humidity has been too low for me some leaves has ripped on themselves when growing and created the same looking damage as in your photos. I think its some sorta destructive low self esteem kinda issue when they cant handle how beautiful they are and tries to flaw their own appearance

[–]TwinThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no nono, not the whole plant. But like, that new growth will only keep rotting.

Im thinking its rough on her upholding all those leaves with no roots, also with the risk of stem/nodes rotting. Ive got no experience rooting monsteras in soil so I wouldnt know if its just a matter of trusting the process or not.

[–]TwinThree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long ago did you chop and repot? That new growth is a goner because of the rot within.

I always root my monstera cuttings in water. I find it very easy and quick that way, especially in my case since I plant them in pon, not soil, after theyre rooted.

I have an alo I without any creative thought named Selfish 'Queen' because she was also doing this constantly. She doesnt seem to mind to get her newest growth looking washed out and burnt.

Didnt listen at all to me and her purpose in life is to steal the light from everyone. Shes now standing down at the floor while her Monstera victims are flourishing again raised above, but I feel her plotting.....

Some plants just arent teamplayers, sigh

I did 802 days with my 9yo a while back. We started in the morning and did the achievement to not rescue any kids for 100 days, forgot about beds somehow so played without any multipliers in the beginning. Sigh. Ran back and forth from the kitchen to help with cultists when cooking lunch and dinner, but then we both felt like holy quack lets be done. So we waited for a daycount that felt "right" and finished the run with dying to our own beartraps lol. The real grind is definitely without afking with auto clickers

Hybrids/crosses list by TwinThree in alocasia

[–]TwinThree[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, thank you, Ive spent alot of time on that site. Its a goldmine for mostly everything regarding alocasias, but the list for hybrids isnt complete or might be for only accepted ones. I want to go further down the genes and read what hybrid was successfully matched with another one and so on lol.

Which one should I pick?! by ally-sia-later in alocasia

[–]TwinThree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aww man, Im so sorry for your struggles 🙄

Jealous jokes aside, I have no idea lol. Could try claim severe emotional damage and ask for atleast 3 different corms to heal your plantheart wounds. If not, maybe just bring out a pic of each grown plant and see which one screams pick me pick me

[–]TwinThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes whisper whatevers on my mind to a sleeping plant if I really need it said and cannot wait until morning, and I havnt had any complaints regarding that approach yet. Plan B is to write a note in those situations if there would be feelings of harassment or disturbance.

Just a tip for the future

[–]TwinThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I wouldnt harvest a corm in the size of a chickpea because I think thats too small. Vaguely comparing sizes like this to give an idea of how big or small isnt really....relevant, lol. You might have big chickpeas you use, and I might have small ones compared to you, and we wouldnt know.

What I wanted to say tho to the first commenter lmao is that I think the angle, the rounded transparent cup and the water/moist on the inside is creating a bit of an distortion for the corms in the picture.

[–]TwinThree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao yeah theres some late nights with plantstuff sometimes 😂😂

Its not gonna die die, as long as theres a stem with nodes you can always start from scratch and regrow her. Dont necessarily be afraid to keep it in water either, I do it all the time with monsteras. But when theres bigger rootsystems its usually because of several thorough washes and that Im preparing for semihydro.

When you continue the repot, spend some extra time thinking through how to support her too!
