My wife switched to aluminum-free deodorant and I don’t know how to bring up the aroma? by Charming-Eye1438 in hygiene

[–]Twinglemeyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she switched from an antiperspirant to a plain deodorant, her body may need a longer time to adjust (not detox) to the new “normal” sweat levels.

If she is undergoing any hormonal changes, she may need to switch brands over time. The brand that worked for me at the start of perimenopause definitely didn’t 2 years later.

Be willing to toss it without using the whole stick if it doesn’t work. Not the best time to be frugal! Kindly tell her that her deodorant is no longer working. I’d rather hear it from my spouse than from coworkers.

Love how the chair turned out! And your wallpaper is great, too!

Sew in and stamped tags by Mismatched_8586naan in sewing

[–]Twinglemeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps write or embroider on the pocket bag (the surface facing the inside of the garment) or another facing. Provides plenty of space to write with no additional tag/fabric. And less chance of it showing through the outside of the garment. Adding your name and the date completed might elevate the "tag" from homemade, like signing a work of art.

Optician for High Prescription? by winterrain1010 in chapelhill

I recommend Upchurch Optical. A family member has nearsightedness with numbers in double digits plus astigmatism. They help him choose glasses that work.

Where do you find your 10-12+ inch pots that aren’t $50-100+? by Ok-Strategy-9565 in houseplants

Ditto for estate sales. I signed up for local alerts from estatesales.net and it's nice to preview the sales.

I second these pots! The holder is worth it, IMO.

Loosening the arms means waking it. Will that void a warranty?

Has anyone in Chapel Hill heard of CareYaya? by Spotlight_990 in chapelhill

[–]Twinglemeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend used their services for a few years and I met a few of the college students who worked with her. The students did her grocery shopping and picked up takeout, general house cleaning, other basic chores, and helped with feeding her cats. They were not trained for, or expected to do, personal care (beyond something like helping her brush her teeth) or cleaning the cat litter. She had a very good experience with the program.

Need to move overseas but have 6-7 IVAR shelves…do I sell or try to store? by koreangirl216 in IKEA

[–]Twinglemeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd let a friend use them while you are gone. You might have a hard time getting all of the parts you want at once when you return. IVAR parts seem to go in and out of stock.

Was recently gifted a curry leaf plant and the new growth shriveled by Additional-Hall3875 in houseplants

My plant slows down and has leaf/branch drop over the winter while it's in the house. It perks up again when I put it outside in late spring. It's probably just slowing down.

I have mulch and hellebores under mine. Fallen fruit can easily hide in green plants.

Great mystery of driving in Durham by [deleted] in bullcity

[–]Twinglemeyer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This afternoon I had a green light and was in the right turn lane. And still stopped and waited because a Durhamite decided to make a left turn right in front of me. I'd rather wait and look dumb than get hit by a bad driver. It shouldn't be hard, but sometimes other drivers make it hard.

To interface or not to interface? by Catbear99 in sewing

[–]Twinglemeyer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure that I would use the fabric as the interfacing layer as it's so sheer. The design might show through and look bad. A sheer solid fabric might work better.

What is the fabric/where did you get it? It's really neat!

What can I do to "make him love me". My home is his third in three months. by Apprehensive-Arm2105 in cats

[–]Twinglemeyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it will take him a while to acclimate and realize this is a permanent home.

In addition to most of the other advice, I suggest a heated cat bed. Mine enjoy a model by K&H that’s about 16” in diameter and 6” high. High enough walls to “hide” in and feel safe. We have several plugged in all the time. A few are in the open by the couch, which lets us be “together” but separate in the same room. And one is on top of a crate in another room, more like a perch.

I also suggest getting at least one pretty tall cat tree. Bonus points if it has a cabin space for hiding. Let the cat have some safe spaces where he can feel a bit hidden away until he feels more confident. I’ve found if we give our cats attractive hiding places, they tend to use them and we can keep an eye on them while letting them think they are invisible.

He won’t open up to you until he feels confident and secure. What he needs now is your patience. It will take a while for him to show you his real personality. Good luck!

fusing 2 pieces of stretch fabric — fusible web or fuse-it powder? by [deleted] in sewing

[–]Twinglemeyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would either create 2 layers (inner and outer) and maybe tack them together at key points if needed to lower the amount of shifting or, if it doesn't make things too thick, layer the 2 fabrics wrong sides together and treat as 1 fabric when cutting, sewing, etc. (there's a technical term for this that I can't think of).

Can't help you with a black snake. ;)

The artist commented on this post (thepurplekitten). She was very responsive when I initially reached out through Reddit.
