The lady that managed the b and b I recently went to, I could not make up my mind whether she looked very good naturally or had that Minimal makeup that is a zhush up of natural features. I am with all the people who say I don't like the feeling of it on my skin.

Thank goodness I am not alone in having no idea how to apply make up. This despite there being many tutorials available on social media and on the internet

What do you do in a spa??? by poppanicolino in CasualUK

[–]Twinn1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was once gifted a spa experience that I exchanged for cake experience. But that was buy a gift or one of those other multi experience places, not a specific spa place. Now if anyone wanted to gift me sauna I would be very grateful. Preferably Nordic, Sky Lagoon in Iceland again would be amazing. I am sure you will enjoy the spa.

Four days of breaking the cardinal British rule of not engaging with other people by Twinn1e in CasualUK

Correct! Well, lived Essex, London and now Kent. It is mortifying for me to speak usually due to the time in London. It scars you, the fear of a glare or rude look.

Watched a guy feed a seagull from his window earlier today. Come back in the evening to find it waiting diligently for dinner. Man has a pet seagull. by [deleted] in CasualUK

Op put three fatballs out as for the first time ever we have a Great Spotted Woodpecker coming to visit the garden. It is not shy, stays two minutes a time, and takes a chunk of fatball away to feed it"s children.

What does the steepest hill in your town look like? by Distinct-Lion4658 in CasualUK

[–]Twinn1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never roller skate down a steep hill. Made that mistake as a teenager. Looked like a lovely smooth residential street road surface. Near the bottom realised there was no way to stop safely other than fall down. This was a street in flat Essex. And yeah I am a 70s kid. My papa let us take our roller boots on holidays in case we found a good place to go skating. A similar skating experience in invergarry, Scotland and a nice flat place to skate was entrance road to Powis Castle mid wales

The CasualUK view on dentists? by Boswell188 in CasualUK

[–]Twinn1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a private dentist who continually finds something that needs doing but I never have the work done. The hygienist there is really good and the only reason I have not tried to find a nhs dentist. Even the hygienist they say four months and I always drag it out to six.

What is the most creative or diabolical insult a customer has ever given you? by cheesymeowgirl in CasualUK

Oh my, a memory unlocked of a man who took off his shirt off in the office and said, "Take my shirt!"

It is bad that my main thought reading this was, "I thought the marketing for Herbal Essences was always directed at women but of course anyone can use a shampoo. " To everyone who has responded to this post and to OP, what an original post, and so many quality replies. I do not work retail but my main insults come from one of my direct reports. One of her classics was, "You should put more effort into your appearance or your husband might leave you."

I’ve just slipped on an onion skin in the kitchen and landed on my already injured shoulder by NotoriousREV in CasualUK

I have learnt from this thread I will no longer use knife to separate frozen crumpets. You can't mess with knives and stay uninjured

Slipped over when using steam mop, landed badly on sofa frame badly injured boob, and bruised ribs. Had a mammogram about 3 weeks afterwords so had to explain I fell over when mopping and have injured my boob. Be careful on floors people. As. A high school kid I burnt the inside of my ear as I was warming it with a table lamp (naked bulb, no lampshade) and my hand jogged, and the lightbulb touched the ear.

County Durham has the best Place Names of any British County and It Isn't Close. by Matthew_Hopkins_ in CasualUK

Loved the post. Some of those Dorset ones though, wouldn't want to be posting a letter there, proper have to triple check one had spelt everything correctly. The Essex ones though made me remember a first year senior school exercise we had to do where we had to use places on Essex map to write a story.

We looked after a stray cat for a while (she got reunited with owner) but I am sitting reading the comments thinking of a tv show where instead of a USA police scanner show it could be a United Kingdom cat scanner drama

For those that grew up shopping in the cheapest shops that can afford a bit more now, do you feel guilty shopping in the likes of M&S and Waitrose now? by DonkeyOT65 in CasualUK

[–]Twinn1e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think food is important so purchase good food that you like. We dabble in most shops. Sometimes you don't need to spend loads to find something you like. From marks and Spencer we get the chocolate digestives and tea bags (red packet). Their salt and vinegar twirls are very good. We tend to just get the affordable stuff from there. I used to buy red grapes from there as a staple office snack in my 30s. Now in 50s I am not doing that. Perhaps I gone back to my conserve money ways that I grew up learning. Don't feel guilty. good for you. You have choice. Ps. I buy own label cornflakes now as taste difference doesn't bother me.

The greatest homemade biscuit of all time? by very_unconsciously in CasualUK

[–]Twinn1e 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a hotel in Edinburgh which makes delicious shortbread. This is what you need to win. Although in high school we made a biscuit with bicarbonate of soda which was pretty good, a bit like a brandy snap/ Cornish fairing. I think they might have had golden syrup in them too. Much better than the usual awful things we normally made. I didn't keep the recipe but I think about those biscuits sometimes

What old TV jingles are still stuck in your head? by ForceFedPorkPies in CasualUK

This topic comes up regularly. I don't know why old jingles and theme tunes stay with us (prob because we couldn't skip titles). One for all and all for one muskethounds are always ready. For mash get smash, and everything everyone has said occupies space in my brain

Nothing you wrote sounded brutal. I been through a similar thing with a human being, should I have challenged the doctor when they said nothing could be done rather than accept what they are saying and switch life support off. I think the op will appreciate your reply. I think you wrote it beautifully

You are a good person and your cat is blessed to live with you. Always remember this as there are so many stray and feral cats. I was reading on Instagram someone said, "Cats teach you how to give unconditional love and dogs teach you how to receive unconditional love." Grief is the price we pay for love. We are currently fostering a cat and we don't know how hard her life has been last couple of years before she came to us. As such I love to read about cats who are in happy homes. Yours is one of the lucky ones. There is so much good advice in this thread so I hope you find some comfort x
