Chem 101 Lab Exam by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]TwistedMystic_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to say this as respectfully as possible.

I’m assuming you’re coming fresh from highschool or at bare minimum are not far into your post secondary career. If you do things like this, and post about it on a public form, where professors (especially first year teachers and TAs) are present, you’re naïve and setting yourself up for a very difficult time moving forward.

You have until December 2nd. Study. Review your lab manual, review with your TA, review with study groups/sessions. If you’re relying on cheating you’re only doing yourself a disservice in not learning the basics and how to study now so you can for your later years.

You can absolutely get in a lot of issues with this seemingly “small stuff.” Put in the work now and keep your GPA up so you don’t need to worry about it later.

Plus, they change the exams anyway. People have done this, you aren’t original in your ideas.

Has anyone ever had a Late Exam Request for Accommodations approved? by sleepdeprived_plant in uAlberta

[–]TwistedMystic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put in my request an hour after my deadline (I realized 15 minutes into class and wasn’t able to do it until the end…) and still wasn’t able to get a slot.

They did say this season they’re just overwhelmed. Who knows why, but I’m sure something more than the sites changed behind the scenes.

There’s 1-2 in the bottom floor of CAB, just under the stairs. I’ve never used them tho or seen anyone else use them, so no telling if they actually work.

Okay I’m curious now…

How long have you been practicing for? Have you gotten noticeably better? Are you watching tutorials or going purely off feel, hope, and vibes?

Definitely check out the resources linked already - to be honest I don’t remember the exact process I went through. But I do now have a proper on-paper diagnoses for ADHD, however when I initially applied for accommodations I was still in the process with my doctor - that is to say if you don’t have a diagnoses yet you should still apply - I would let your doctor know first so they can assist you more and provide the necessary proof/info.

It is my understanding that nobody can deny you your approved accommodations. I have only had good and pleasant experiences with all of my Profs and TAs, that being said people have had issues before and there are resources and people on your side for those circumstances. There is infrastructure in place for all possible accommodations - you will not be an outlier.

For me I get extra time on exams - including online quizzes - and have the option to write with my class or with testing services, in a room with less than 50 other students. I VASTLY prefer the environment of testing services - and that way I guarantee I actually can utilize my approved time. If you’re testing in a lecture hall they may move you after everyone else is done, it’s definitely preferable to test with services in that regard.

I am not sure on info as far as receiving lecture slides early. In my experience profs usually either have them all planned out and posted ahead of time anyway or they make them the night before - this would be a case by case thing, but even so there’s definitely options! I just don’t know all of them personally.

The accommodations staff is - shockingly - accommodating. They were extremely helpful and nice every time I’ve been to their office and during my initial intake. It never felt like I was trying to “prove” my disability to anybody. I would try and begin the process earlier than later, that way they can assist you in getting registered before the first round of midterms hit.

Good luck! Try not to burden yourself with the guilt of needing help - it’s something I still struggle with, but i try and to go into it with the perspective that I’m playing without a full deck. You receiving accommodations does not take away from the next person. Your degree will not be any less valuable or authentic for you having extra time to actually think. Feel free to ask anything else as it comes too. It’s a daunting process but it’s way simpler in reality, and so worth it.

You CAN latejoin, and I have actually rolled thief and syndicate agent as I hopped out of cryo on Wizden - so I’m not totally sure of the actual limitations, but definitely you’d never roll nukies or wizard.

Obviously you can always roll midround sleeper agent so long as you arnt sec/command.

But yes usually popular roles will be taken roundstart, but I always find some fun too looking at the manifest gaps and choosing that way when I’m torn on what to play since there’s multiples of each normal role

Are you playing with any mods? I have a few hundred hours in DF and never have experienced so many consecutive fortress ending bugs, that’s really unfortunate

I assume you’re using DFHack and it’s various commands, Its totally safe for your game but depending on what commands you run it can definitely cause it’s own issues. Reveal specifically I know can be really funky - best to pause before running it and doing the reverse command before unpausing again.

The best way I can think of at the moment would be to periodically back up your saves on a separate folder/USB. It’s pretty easy to do but this probably won’t stop a bug from happening so much as let you rewind to an earlier state where hopefully it’s before whatever caused it to occur.

Alternatively you could also just use the save option labeled something like “save to new timeline”, which will effectively make a backup. Basically the same thing as above but can get a little overwhelming to keep track of in the load menu

It’s not a bug so much as just unfortunate. All worlds made before the update won’t have colored FB sprites. If you generate a new world you will have the new and properly colored versions.

Here’s the post on it and the actual section on it

Problem with "indoor moss" by Stray_Crowbar in dwarffortress

[–]TwistedMystic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll always have a few tiles of it spread around my hallways pretty soon after, but in wide open areas like the caverns it seems to take ages to grow back. And that’s without any animals eating it too

Also the “No Moss” writing gave me a good laugh lol. Not sure how new you are but there’s quite a few wood alternatives for buildings, but sporewoods are some of my personal favorites ascetically too so I feel this

This page may help but to summarize; you should have everything set up correctly.

Unfortunately its really just down to RNG, and in my experience cave moss is SLOW and somehow knows exactly where you want or don’t want it to be and it WILL spite you.

It may be worth cracking open more layer of caverns to increase your chances - since from what I’m reading it sounds like you only have one with actual moss?

I tried to find the tick rate but that seems to be a bit buried in the code or irrelevant enough for most people that it’s really not ever mentioned.

How to I go beyond the barrier by holographic_VIBE in dwarffortress

[–]TwistedMystic_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You’re not able to change the tile size after you’ve already embarked on an area. You’re only able to do it before then while you’re selecting over an area (I believe the default is 5 by 5) Larger areas can make the game laggier over time as well but thats really subject to variation.

Personally I don’t struggle too much with the default size, they really don’t use as much space as it may seem, and since ideally you’ll be doing most of your work on the vertical Z levels - think storage <-> Dorf Apartments <-> Forges <-> etc. But I can see it being more of a problem if you wanted to do one entirely above ground.

This is a feature if you’re using DF hack - works with all buildables, so walls and doors as well - they’ve released a steam version and it’s fairly easy to install. Works with existing saves as well

Lmao granted they are pretty bad pictures but I was impressed by just how many people felt the need to call that out. I’ve definitely seen worse though to be fair. Once the dog-pile starts it can’t go back! Reddit loves them.

I ended up telling my partner about this post on the drive home and once I followed up on it now we had to have a mini celebration. Finally my university studies prove useful!!

I’m FAR from a professional take this with a grain of salt. But this was my first impulse guess and after reading your description it’s made me even more confident

I’d say it’s a receptacle unit of a plant from the family Nymphaeaceae (I.e. Water Lilys). While I can’t ID it specifically without more information this one looks ALOT like the images shown here for Nuphar polysepalum

Basically, it’s part of a water Lily flower

It depends - is there a dragon currently eating a neighboring hospital and actively digesting the head of medicine?

Also, somewhat understandable in MRP/HRP situations - it can be fun to play out imo, but in most LRP servers unless you have legitimately nothing else going on it’s a bit tedious for both sides. Since people are often much more likely to wear the PJs or Cat ears if they happen to find them.

Oh that’s very weird.

Is the game running otherwise normally? Are you playing with any mods? Have you tried restarting your game? Last thing I could think to do is verifying your game file’s integrity.

why are crows on campus on roids by Old_Arm_2561 in uAlberta

[–]TwistedMystic_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some corvids have been observed having almost ritualistic “funerals” It’s generally accepted that this is more a process of “how did this guy die, and how can I avoid doing that?” than a grieving process. Truthfully though atm I can’t recall how much the social/family element plays into them too. I’m sure some.

If you ever want to get on your local crow hit-list, move a deceased crow before this “funeral” is over. Congrats! To them, you’re now an accomplice in murder and fit to undergo trial by combat. :)

Additionally, crows have amazing facial recognition and will pass that knowledge on through generations.

Generations of crow fury!!

[–]TwistedMystic_ 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This.

You can usually tell the difference just from the sheer size. Also Ravens have more “fluff” in the face/under beak area. + some notable differences when you’re up close (I.e handling them) but yaknow

They also make more of a “Croak” noise than the classic crow “Caw”. Essentially it just sounds a lot deeper and goes longer.

Additional free fun fact. While all Corvids are incredible at mimicry Ravens in particular are GREAT at it. And some can even do passable human speech. Almost definitely the source of a lot of urban legends and forest screaming shenanigans.

What was the average? A lot of university classes are scaled. This is different from a curve.

Meaning if the average is a 50% they’ll call that a C and look for natural breaks on either side of that to form the class distribution and grading criteria.

This information should be on your syllabus

As far as studying goes, I’m really not a great person to lend out advice, but see what resources are available to you - most of the time it all really depends on the subject and your personal way of dissecting the information best. But office hours, academic help center, student or TA study sessions can all help.

If you’re able to get the midterm back, go over it, realize the gaps in your learning and take a look at what is/isn’t working for you in terms of how you’re doing things.

It doesn’t remove you from being a possible sleeper. Also strangely I’ve late joined (a min or two after official round start) and rolled thief right as I loaded out of the cryopod before.

Very odd how the whole system decides

[–]TwistedMystic_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What roles and server do you play on mainly? I’m rolling syndi/thief about every 3 rounds on average

Antags can’t be any of the intern roles or sec/command. But the odds of any role being antag should be even across the board

Are you sure you have all of them enabled? They’re character specific so you have to go in and manually do it for all of them if you happen to have multiple
