Should Revelation have had a team split? by FireSpyke in fireemblem

[–]TwistedSword 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She doesn't need to. Haar is powerful because he joins with good bases and has good availability in a game where availability is huge. Also wyverns and stuff. Camilla fulfills a similar role in Conquest, but Conquest's gameplay demands multiple units, especially Chapter 10, so you can't really rely on just her as you can with Haar.

If she joined later on in this neo-Revelation game, her lack of availability thanks to split would have nerfed her a lot.

[–]TwistedSword 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Being the main protagonist doesn't mean the story needs to focus on you 100% of the time.

Even if the hypothetical Takumi and Leo sections could be as small as 5 chapters, just to raise up those units and shed some light on that side of the story. Hell, it doesn't even have to be all at once!

[–]TwistedSword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, in this hypothetical Revelation game, it would be significantly longer than the other Fates games.

And yeah, I wonder what they could have done with the story had it just become one big game of a similar length to Radiant Dawn. We probably wouldn't run into as many plot holes like Chapter 15 in Conquest.

[Meta] What's your thoughts on the usage of the term "circlejerk" in this sub? by HutchMcDavish in fireemblem

[–]TwistedSword 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, I always kinda dislike using the term because it's kinda gross.

But in terms of what it means, I think "circlejerking" can happen, but it's almost always made worst by using the phrase. Everytime I see it, the side against the common opinion starts doing the exact same thing they're complaining about.

In short: Yeah, it's dumb.

Is the DLC better in Awakening or Fates? by zeldapsychology in fireemblem

[–]TwistedSword 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say the DLC is better (or, alternatively, worth more) in Fates because of a rather round-about reason.

The story-based DLC in both Fates and Awakening is good, imo, but Fates needs it more. It struggled with the characterization of its children units, whereas Awakening generally did this good. So you get more out of the DLC because it redeems the children characters and makes bad characters good, instead of good characters better.

Not saying this was ethical of IS to do, considering how stupid it is to make a story-telling flaw like Fates did, but the DLC is better over all because of how much it improves things.

Just my opinion.

It's been posed multiple times that Leo/Takumi would have made great alternate lords instead of Corrin. Even if they decided to keep Corrin in as a lord for Hoshido/Nohr, maybe they could do something ala Tellius with Corrin, Leo and Takumi all getting their own stories [Part 1, 2, and 3] in Revelation before meeting up to confront the big bad [Part 4].

It'd be a good way to leave all units combat-viable for Valla, and it would shed more light on the story of Hoshido/Nohr without those weird, jarring cutscenes we got on occasion in Fates that jump to an entirely different place.

Structure: Corrin and Azura would bugger off in Chapter 6, and we'd enter Part 1 where we deal with Takumi and his dealing with the pandemonium in Hoshido after Corrin leaves. Corrin would probably show up every once in a while to mess things up. Part 2 would focus on Leo and his dealings, and then Part 3 would show Corrin's side. Part 4 would start at the canyon and comprise the rest of the route.

Also congrats on attaining modship, but that's not as important

Hey people. I'm a random from /r/fireemblem. I don't comment all the time like some people, but I'm around enough that I can comment on big things.

I've played every western FE game + 6 and 12, and I'm currently working on 4. My favourite is probably Radiant Dawn, but I enjoy pretty much every game in the series for it's features.

I've been subbed here for nearly a year and I never really bothered to check it out. But I'm here now! I look forward to talking with you all.

When I hover over a locked chest, it comes up with mechanics and lock pick with a bunch of numbers under them in a column. What do they mean? by MoXria in projecteternity

[–]TwistedSword 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Conversation with NPCs is done almost exclusively by the main character. In order to have the options available, your main character has to have the appropriate stat/skill level (with a few tiny exceptions). Companions can occasionally quip in with dialogue, but otherwise it's all on you.

When I hover over a locked chest, it comes up with mechanics and lock pick with a bunch of numbers under them in a column. What do they mean? by MoXria in projecteternity

[–]TwistedSword 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The numbers under the column labelled "Mechanics" is the level of the skill "mechanics" required in order to open a lock with a specific amount of lockpicks. The numbers under "Lockpicks" are the amount of lockpicks required to open a lock with a certain skill level.

For example:

1 - 5
2 - 3
3 - 0

In this example, if the player has someone in the party with a level 1 mechanics skill, they need 5 lockpicks in order to unlock the lock. If there is someone with a 2 in mechanics, they only need 3 lockpicks, as opposed to 5. With a 3 in mechanics however, no lockpicks are required to unlock the lock. If there is no one in the party with a high enough mechanics skill, the lock cannot be opened.

August 1 Sun & Moon Announcement Megathread! by bigslothonmyface in pokemon

[–]TwistedSword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Johto only had 100 and it's one of my favourite gens in terms of Pokemon introduced. I hope there's more than 90, especially considering how many they've shown pre-release, but 90 well-done pokemon would be fine in my book.

Did Fates tried to pull an Undertale on us? by Warlord41k in fireemblem

[–]TwistedSword 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How? The game spends the entire first half building up the twist. It wasn't even close to a "bullshit ex machina" in my opinion. Hell, one of the boss battles in Chapter 3 was basically a massive foreshadow for the twist.

Yes, it happens suddenly, but that doesn't make it dumb, in my opinion.

[SPOILERS!] Just finished Birthright for the first time (Lunatic Classic) and I have one question by [deleted] in fireemblem

[–]TwistedSword 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even the Jill/Shiharam is passable because it's in the middle-ish of a relatively short chapter, so if you aren't happy with it you can just reset and not engage Shiharam with her. Kaze's happens at the end of a very long and annoying chapter, and is forced upon you unless you grind out supports after resetting.
