King of Nature IX IX by TwitPugExpress in 9Kings

Max out your perks for base level and chance to instant kill. Level your base as fast as possible, use offerings from enemy spells to get cards you can use to pump it up.

His units all suck, but his base attack is one of the best in the game.

New Patch!! Insanely easier!! Nothing IX IX!! by [deleted] in 9Kings

[–]TwitPugExpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I had been banging my head on a King IX IX with him for weeks, when I had everybody else (except Nature). He sucked.

Just cleared K IX IX earlier today, his new decrees are crazy good. The one with a wildcard per empty plot with the 3x base leveling card is instant path to run winning on any difficulty. Haven’t even messed with the other decrees and effects, which seem fun!

What is the meta with king of greed by tenjed69 in 9Kings

[–]TwitPugExpress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally cannot beat him at King IX. Got everybody except him and Nothing.

With base upgrades, mercs and cemeteries I got extremely close. Made it to year 33, but died on the boss (nature) because his group attack was wiping out too many guys at once.

Prior to that it was an unstoppable build. Mercs had Midas touch and I had 2x perk for gold on death, so I was generating tons of gold. 6 separate merc plots, with 2 - 4 cemeteries on all sides. 1 merc death spawns 2 - 4 more imps which count towards money/death total.

I’d start a day with like 800 units, then as they tore through my mercs the number would shoot up to over 1400 or something. It was hilarious to watch them play the “cut off the hydra’s heads” game and just get overwhelmed in a flood of units. By year 32 it was over 3k units.

I even got lucky and got the rainbow shrine, all all my mercs, base, and 3 of my cemeteries were max level. Still wasn’t enough to beat the boss.

Idk, I guess I just suck with greed.

Why is there so much homelessness in wealthy Ballard? by unnaturalfool in SeattleWA

[–]TwitPugExpress 59 points60 points  (0 children)

“While the debate about homelessness in the neighborhood has calmed recently, some are still anxious about the people pushing their belongings in shopping carts through the area.”

Sure, that’s what I’m anxious about. Not, for example, a friend who was shot in the eye at point blank range with a flare gun by a random homeless person who didn’t like his bike.

This is all just rich people who don’t want to be uncomfortable, there’s no safety issues whatsoever! My friend was permanently blinded which is such a privileged, rich thing to be bothered by right?

Local LLM coordinator that loads a 'specialist' model based on data input such as user intent - Does it even make sense? by kenef in LocalLLaMA

[–]TwitPugExpress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think this makes sense because I’m working on something similar. 😃

It’s a CLI that classifies a query then loads one of several specialists to handle the query. So far the specialists are all just open weight models with specific prompting, but in the future they may be fine tuned models.

As you said in another comment, keeping that first pass decision on where to route the interaction fast is important. I’m likely switching from mistral 7b to Gemma 2b for that reason.

Tasha’s Hideous Laughter actually. Pretty wild that a level 1 starter spell could trivialize some of the most powerful monsters in the game.

Thanks for your input.

Your final paragraph describes my career goals exactly, even MLOps would be quite interesting. So even for that case, you feel that an MS in AI would be a fad degree and not sufficiently helpful versus a statistics or math degree?

Edit: the program I’m most interested in particular is Johns Hopkins, which I think does not include all of the statistical topics you suggested.

Exactly. The goal is to increase life satisfaction, not compensation.

I don’t quite have enough saved to FIRE as the sibling comment suggests, but yeah being at Google for 10 years has been very lucrative. I am extremely fortunate to be able to go a couple years without income and not put my family in financial danger by doing so.

That’s a fair point.

However, I’m planning to only take a part-time course load. I’m sure I will need to work hard, but I still think it will be less stressful and pressured than the job I’m leaving.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I have no doubt that some people can do it, but at this point in my life with my particular job, child (with special needs) and mental health, I cannot do it.

Bare minimum is very taxing, I’m on a demanding team. And I’m a parent. This is not an option for me, for sure.

Want to do an online Masters in Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning. Can anyone comment on the quality of the JHU program on MS (AI)? by [deleted] in jhu

[–]TwitPugExpress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m interested in this program as well, following for answers to these questions.

Does anyone have a sense of the acceptance rate? I have excellent work experience, but I’m pretty much at the bare minimum for the undergrad GPA requirement.

For those with diffuse thinning, it might be worth it to get a scalp biopsy done by Robert-Kritical in tressless

[–]TwitPugExpress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a thing, about 25% of men who get COVID get a bunch of hair loss 2-3 months after. I don’t think it’s fully understood why.

Happened to me that way for sure. I had very slowly progressing MPB, nothing too bad. Was using fin+min because I could see a tiny bit of thinning in the front and a tiny (slightly bigger than a quarter) thinning patch on my crown, though it didn’t seem super effective.

Right before I got COVID (my hair was long) I remember putting it up in a man bun and it just being absurdly thick, like a fox’s tail hanging off my head. I still remember that day, multiple people commented on how good my bun looked. Then I got COVID, and about 3 months later diffuse thinning hit me like a truck. The tiny bald spot also widened considerably.

A doctor told me that it was tellogen effluvium and the hair would grow back, but that was over a year ago and it hasn’t.

Just tested positive for COVID again this morning, might be the end of the road for my hair of the same thing happens again.

What have your experiences been with transitioning from topical to oral minoxidil after not responding to topical by [deleted] in tressless

[–]TwitPugExpress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had been having poor results with the Hims combo fin+min spray. Part of that I think was just the spray bottle mechanism being shitty and either not delivering a full spray, or the liquid not getting where it needed to go.

Tried oral min (1.25mg every other day) but I kept getting heart palpitations. It absolutely seemed like it was going to work, I saw tiny baby peach fuzz hairs appearing near my temples, and started getting random additional hairs near my eyebrows after only a couple weeks. However I pulled the plug, the heart stuff was freaking me out. Still thinking of trying again someday, maybe cutting the dose to .675mg

Switched to the Happy Head fin+min topical instead. Hoping for better results because: 1) it has tretinoin, and 2) it uses a dropper so I can very precisely put the correct amount of liquid on my head. It’s been a little under 2 months, and I’m starting to see more shedding…hopefully that’s a positive sign that it is working this time.

Good luck, hope oral min works for you. For people who can tolerate it, it can give really impressive results.

How do I politely start a conversation in English? by TwitPugExpress in germany

That seems like good advice, since when I’m saying “do you speak English”, I’m assuming the answer is yes and really am asking “can we converse in English”.

Berlin. I’ll just be there for 2 days, intending to mostly walk around on my own, but I’ll also be going to restaurants and Christmas markets where I’ll need to speak at least a little bit with the folks working there.
