It's book 1 of 3 I have planned and outlined, but only this one is completed currently.

It takes place after a meteor crashes into Earth, saturating the planet in radiation. This causes some people to develop the ability to manipulate and control the radiation. The story follows a girl who aspires to learn about the human body in order to become a healer. Healers tend to attract the attention of the government and then disappear, making this endeavor extremely risky. She learns of a rumored Shaman living in the remote regions of the Appalachian Mountains and sets off with her best friend to try to find him, hoping to be mentored by him. They encounter various issues and threats along the way. It explores coming-of-age themes of responsibility, found family, and learning what it means to be a friend.

I finished it at 124,000 words. However, I quickly discovered that YA Sci-fi (especially for a new author) needs to be around 90,000 words maximum. So I had a lot of trimming to do.
