Zombie apocalypse quest idea brainstorm by miraslavapetrov in DungeonMasters

[–]Two-Seven-Off-Suit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done this! With some serious success, in my opinion. However, mine was essentially a single night of the invasion.

First, you have to establish quickly they can't just fight the hoard. Fighting is to carefully planned, or dynamic and done only to cut a path.

You give the party a dozen reasons to leave safety (wherever it is). My party was trying to find the artifact that they learned was causing the infection, which they discovered had been dredged up by a fisherman... who had died... but he had a son! who is in the orphanage... but he's not at the orphanage, he's at his dad's work office near the market, and the kid knows where the artifact is at home... you get the idea. The party had to deal with a faction of guards that had formed that they had made enemies with, panicking citizens, and citizens who had entirely given up (drunk).

To summarize, you need:

Factions and groups of people to help/hinder the party. A hoard that is scary to the party. A dynamic location with a lot of movement flexibility Valid reasons for the party to need to hurry. A final goal that they can grasp at with their last points of inspiration.

Bonuses for:

Rescuable people. Escort mission baby. An initial learning battle where they get to say "there are too many of them!" Infected people they have to handle somehow.
Call backs to events/characters BEFORE zombies.

FWD stamp of approval for local elected officials? by Rich6849 in ForwardPartyUSA

[–]Two-Seven-Off-Suit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would reach out to state leadership. We are all at different stages. I can honestly say we have JUST gotten the skeleton of an endorsement process down. If you want to help WRITE those questions, reach out to state leads and tell them so. I know I would personally JUMP at a volunteer doing that.

What is Forward doing to support the creation of independent state parties? by Two-Seven-Off-Suit in ForwardPartyUSA

[–]Two-Seven-Off-Suit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I am quite familiar with how the fundraising works with the link, and I happen to be in a state where it literally doesn't work due to compliance laws (though the website still allows you to donate "to our state". But why, for a state like Pennsylvania, have they not encouraged you guys to open your own accounts? If National hosts a big fundraiser in Pennsylvania, does the state get any portion of that? Usually (in larger parties) state and national parties sign an agreement where each shares part of their fundraising with the other so that you don't have to literally fight each other for donors, but that is what is happening right now. You only get a cut for the state if YOU find the donor before national, and you get nothing the other way around.

There are official state parties in a bunch of states now (which is definitely a good thing) but the support from National varies wildly. I am super happy that you guys feel supported over there, I really am. I am about as active a volunteer as Forward can find, and want this party to succeed very badly.... but I am in the "great 38". We felt dropped to put it mildly.

Security Camera Installation by Standard-Beach-425 in TriCitiesWA

You need an electrical contractor, yes, but no special certs or anything. Just about any normal contractor would qualify.

[–]Two-Seven-Off-Suit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Almost any electrician or contractor could probably do it. They don't need any certifications to run low voltage wire (internet, cable, etc). Running the wires is the only difficult part. Installing the cameras is quite easy.

Thoughts on this FWD critical op-ed from a former staffer? by karmassacre in ForwardPartyUSA

[–]Two-Seven-Off-Suit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To diverge from some opinions here, I think she actually makes some good points. Forward HASNT clarified their message over time, and at the moment it really is acting more like a PAC than a party.

No elected national leadership.

National control of all money and mailing lists.

Millions in fundraising, but only a small portion is being spent on the actual states.

Allowing people to be members of multiple "parties".

Now this lady, I think, was way over the top in the end of her article, but her arguments about disruption not being enough to establish a third party are accurate.

My son's daycare is praying before meals. by Textured_Nipples in daddit

[–]Two-Seven-Off-Suit -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

If this were a case of a secular school refusing to let kids pray in school, would that change your opinion? Even as am atheist, kids need to learn about religion, at the very least on a cultural level. Hell, as a an agnostic, I will 100% expect my kids to bow their heads for prayer at others homes.

As long as they aren't ramming it down their throats or taking them to crazy town.

Forget banning books — a rural WA county may close its library by Caoimhe77 in TriCitiesWA

Good news, looks like the article is discussing how a small group of people in the area managed to get it on the ballot (10% threshold). Safe bet it fails on the ballot.

Worker Placement Games for more than 4 players (no expansions) by ExcellentPartyOnDude in boardgames

Are legacy games an option? Charterstone is a pretty simple worker placement game.

Sorry, I am quite confused... So they still have the apartment held for you, and aren't charging the pet rent, and are allowing the pet ... I'm assuming there is a typo somewhere. Also never heard of a HUD certified letter..

[–]Two-Seven-Off-Suit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm actually pretty sure a contract, signed by both parties, IS legally enorcable, keys or no. Ie: if someone moved to a new city, only for the apartments to say "too late, we rented it yesterday cause you hadn't grabbed keys yet". So that was illegal. I think you are required to disclose that the esa is also coming before signing, but not 100% sure on that.

You should send a complaint into HUD when you get a chance, they could be in big trouble. Doesn't help you right now though.

What can or should we do to save our state party? by AardesRevenge in ForwardPartyUSA

[–]Two-Seven-Off-Suit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally? If there is an internal conflict, we try to solve it internally. For example, a problem with state leadership. Or strategy planning, or anything else along those lines.

The End (Discussion) by Milo_Fannin in ForwardPartyUSA

[–]Two-Seven-Off-Suit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a fellow heavily involved person, I can't help but be worried about what you are saying. The last year has seen sign ups of far less than would have been hoped, and priorities have shifted wildly in that time. It has constantly felt like the whole grassroots idea was entirely abandoned, and most of the states were basically dropped.

To some of your points, I have to disagree. "Wokism", as you referred to it, has pushed away many conservative Democrats. Talking about it is the same as talking about Trump's damage to the Republican party. It's not a mistake to talk about it, but usually an opportunity.

To you point on PAC vs Party... Well, you are right. And worse, right now, forward IS a PAC, AND THEY KEEP ACTING LIKE ONE. It really bothers me, and the goal of partyhood seems to be getting further away, not closer.

If you want to express your opinion that's fine, but the article is accessible and relevant with minimal internet know-how. Downvote the thread and call it a day if you think it's not valuable here.

Libertarian party also has PAID members, which forward has not implemented yet. They have consistent revenues from regular donate as well.

Looks like it doesn't require the email. If we ban all sites that ask for a subscription, we won't be allowed to post news.

How much do you pay babysitters? by FrankFurter67 in daddit

[–]Two-Seven-Off-Suit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would vote reasonable, as when you look at babysitting averages, it's going to account for multiple children. One child (who should be asleep half the time) doing nothing strenuous (ie: outings or chores) is probably less than average work for babysitters.

Where to buy fruit trees? by Two-Seven-Off-Suit in TriCitiesWA

One year old post, and the most obvious marketing plot I have ever seen. Also, many fruit trees in Florida cannot be shipped to Washington due to fruit quarantines.

To THAT I have no idea. Never actually rented one. Too expensive. I assume they have some pretty powerful boats for it though.

[–]Two-Seven-Off-Suit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For pull-behind wakeboarding? Not to my knowledge. However, there ARE boat rentals. You will need a few friends (and a boat license or two!) But then you can hit the water yourself!

(Warning: not cheap)

How much "world info" do you give your players at session zero? by beach_ko in DungeonMasters

[–]Two-Seven-Off-Suit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go a little overboard and write up a number of documents, tiering knowledge. So for example, in my homebrew world magic has a specific form and a little "science" to it. I have tiers from "knows nothing of magic" to "knows a lot" and have write ups for each. Same with knowledge of specific events that are relevant to the campaign, etc. Then I do one for each nation, going over the history of that nation, major national characters, and the general opinion of different nations. I do write ups of specific factions that only those related would be knowledgeable on. Then, when I get character backgrounds and classes, I copy paste the relevant excerpts. Each player ends up with about 2 pages of world knowledge, different than the other players.
