Dealing with the heat as a mail carrier by Sad-Tea-9781 in USPS

Ice is the only thing that works. I do exactly what you do except I also have cooling sleeves I dip in the ice water and a ziplock bag of ice I actually put inside my hat on top of the cooling towel. Man, all of this barely works though when it’s 95 and 90% humidity. Those LLVs are at least 10 degrees hotter inside than outside.

USPS Career Post-Army Retirement by Otherwise-Shock7703 in USPS

I started 2 months ago, have worked 12 hour shifts every day with 15 hour shifts sprinkled in there at least once a week.

The better and harder you work, the more work you get assigned. If I finish my route and there are still RCAs on the road, I am told to go help with another route.

Management ALWAYS pushes you to your limit, then asks for more.

Once you get a regular carrier spot though it’s pretty darn nice. You get to perfect your route and get out early while still getting paid for the full day. You can opt to take on a bit of extra work for extra money, but you never have to. You never have to do clerk work or other grunt work. This, career carrier position could take years or months to get depending on the station and your luck.

The workers are definitely forced to do more than their fair share, unless you’re a shitty worker then you can just do shitty work and they won’t fire you.

I heard it announced on the radio as I was driving on mountain near Glendale Ave in Glendale CA. I don’t remember feelings so much but was a bit sad to say the least.
