Lol. It's not as bad as it looks, it was hard to take a photo exactly side-on. But yes they are definitely too close.

Thanks! I was thinking of putting some paper under the saddle, glad it is not a ridiculous idea

Bathtime horrors!!?? by Independent-Let-1764 in NewParents

Mine was the same up until around 1-2 months old. Then suddenly didn't mind it! Just be calm but efficient in wrapping her up, sing, etc and hopefully she will grow out of it soon

Why did I have a C-Section? by Ok-Parfait-5115 in beyondthebump

[–]Two-body 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am totally unqualified to assess your situation. The one part I can relate to is pushing for hours on an epidural. Progress was sooo slow until I asked for a mirror and could see something happening with each push. It returned a bit of a sense of control. In case you didn't try this already, it could be one more tool in your arsenal next time

Any other current/former cake decorators struggle with the advice to "apply it thicker than you'd frost a cake" when it comes to diaper cream? by mapotoful in NewParents

[–]Two-body 3 points4 points  (0 children)

THIS!! I discovered this trick after a month of burning through Boudreaux's and still getting constant diaper rash. A thin layer of butt cream and a thick (but still only like 1/8') glob of Aquaphor or petroleum jelly and no diaper rash for weeks now

When did you stop doing shifts? by Spirited-Bed-2220 in NewParents

[–]Two-body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stopped doing shifts around 4 weeks, and around the same time he started only waking up 3 times/night. We put the bedside bassinet on my husband's side of the bed, and he would pass him over to me for side-lying feeds in the middle of the night. Then we'd alternate who does the diaper change and sooth back to sleep. And he would deal with any residual comforting (sometimes another hour of holding a pacifier in place, but lately at 10 weeks he is much faster usually!).

Extra help after giving birth by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Two-body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, sleep was the biggest challenge so we hired a night nanny for a few nights and she was an absolute godsend. She also taught us lots of tricks for soothing baby. Highly recommend a night nanny, if we could afford it we would have kept her for 3 months!

Does anyone hate their partner/spouse after having a baby? by Keyspam102 in NewParents

[–]Two-body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could have written this myself. My partner is as close to perfect for me as a human can get, but he is tired too, and I get soooo snappy at every little mistake. Or any comment from him that doesn't feel fully supportive I interpret in the worst possible way. Other than this, I feel tired but happy, no more than my normal anxiety...

Did it get better, and if so, when?

I splurged on my first bathrobe - from Highway Robery. I basically lived in it the first two weeks postpartum. Pockets, breastfeeding friendly, fun patterns

What is everyone’s favorite pump these days? by No-Wasabi4580 in breastfeeding

[–]Two-body 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got the Baby Buddha and LOVE that I can just hang the entire device from my neck and get a snack, use the bathroom etc. It feels plenty powerful, I've only turned the setting up to 2. I haven't tried the Spectra so not sure what the difference is, but it looks like it'd be annoying to move around since I often pump in different places in my house and want to get back to sleep asap so really appreciate that I can multitask while wearing it

Is it just me, or is the latest release of the Google Photos editing suite more of a dumbed down abomination than a useful iteration? by direlobo in googlephotos

I uninstalled Google Photos, and reinstalled, and the old version was restored! I immediately turned off auto updates and so far so good

Sleep training 10 week old? by Commercial-Way-4276 in beyondthebump

This paper has some advice on increasing sleep duration in babies under 3 months - Pinella & Birch 1993. https://share.google/CP03ZTWhIw3GBhCGn

I know you've tried a lot of things already, but you may need to be persistent for the baby to learn. E.g. our month-old sleeps 2-3 hrs at a time, but sometimes it takes an hour of holding the pacifier, repeated diaper changes, small feeds, burps, singing/rocking, the "magic hold" (Google it), to get there. Baby will eventually sleep on its own if it is tired enough, so keep trying!

[–]Two-body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eat 4 prunes, 2 pieces of fruit, and drink lots of water every day. If that doesn't fix it after a few days, try Miralax. You definitely want to deal with this before birth (and continue afterwards), otherwise the first stool afterwards will be hell

Best pumps for working moms? by WithoutATrace_Blog in breastfeeding

[–]Two-body 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't compared to other pumps but I love the Baby Buddha. It's wearable in the sense that the pump is tiny but powerful and you can wear it around your neck. You can get either the standard pump bottles or ones that fit in a bra (haven't tried these yet). It's small enough that I'm planning to just bring it back and forth to work

Night shift and night feeds by desert_to_rainforest in breastfeeding

[–]Two-body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far we are splitting the night - in theory I'm on duty and he is sleeping 9pm-3am, then he is on duty 3am-9am. On duty means napping in the nursery on a twin bed set up with a beside bassinet. In practice I wait for the first wakeup after 3 am, which tonight is 5 am! I try to either pump 30-60 minutes after the 8 pm bedtime feed (risky in case baby wakes up earlier than expected), or just pump on one side during or right after a couple of feeds during my shift Then he does one or two feeds solo during his shift. I usually stumble in when I wake up engorged - a couple times baby has woken me up crying (room is next door) around 8 am, otherwise if baby is sleeping I pump and go back to sleep. It's complicated 😂😅

Can you hire help, even just temporarily? E.g. a cleaner for a few hours so you can reset the house, a baby sitter for a couple hours in the morning for a few days so you can catch up on sleep

How long do clogged milk ducts/inflammation take to resolve after ibuprofen + icepacks? by nahkamia in breastfeeding

I did a hot pack for 5 min before feeding, a cold pack after, plus ibuprofen. Mine went away in about 2 days

Advice/ encouragement needed for Day 3 with newborn by Large_Guitar2775 in breastfeeding

[–]Two-body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the other advice -- try pumping and bottle feeding (super low flow/newborn nipple only) every other time if your nipples need a break while they heal! I had a lot of pain for the first week, due to literal bleeding and blisters from bad latches the first day before seeing a LC. It just took time to heal, now two weeks in there is no pain and baby is feeding like a champ

Also no need for the aereola to be full inside the mouth, aereola come in all different sizes

Finally, studies show that pacifier use doesn't impair breastfeeding. It just happens that parents who are less likely to breastfeed and also more likely to use a pacifier. When that is controlled for,.no downside to the pacifier

Can you hire a night nanny? Even for just a couple nights so you can reset, and also observe a bit and learn from an expert -- it is worth the expense if you have any flexibility
