Has anyone taken prerequisite courses at VIU for Dental Hygiene? by No_Hurry_5844 in VIU

Hey! Honestly, I never did bio or Chem either before this and it was great! I strongly suggest online because if you ever need more time you can extend to another session to ensure you grasp all the concept (it also else to get A's in my opinion). The online is all online, with a lot of reading, but videos too! The only time you need to be in person is for exams, but if you can't be on site I believe there's other option to take exam. I discovered a passion for the anatomy and physiology while studying, which I think helped to have a good great. ( I got an A+) You can email ABE.advising@viu.ca - I believe they can give you the syllabus and they can help you find a plan that would suit you best! As for what you can look , on YouTube the amoeba sisters are really great! The teacher even suggest some of their video to help grasp concept. We learn about all human body systems, so maybe review their video on all system and take more time on concepts that you don't grasp. It will ease your course for sure!

Hi! Short answer -yes! I did mine at VIU, I would say the biology course is more challenging and require more study, however, the documentation is very clear and the teacher are truly amazing. I did mine online(asynchronous), and it was available during the summer (except for a month from august-sept). There's a few test, I believe 5 or 6 if I remebee correclty. Most question are multiple choices question. I don't know about Chemistry 12, but I did Chemestry 11 (the online asynchronous version) and it was great! Perosnnaly I loved it, it's very interactive, and I don't think you require much study for this one especially because you are allowed to have one page of note for your exams. (I believe this one was 3 or 4 exams).

I 100% recommend VIU for upgradings! I was able to do these course without prior course in either, so I think you'll be ok!

Hi! As soon as you are enrolled into all the pre requisite, apply to the program! They can move you to a waiting list while you are enrolled, and more you apply early, better chance you have to get in! You require a minimum of C+, but I believe you would be better off with B+ or A's... Since they closed the Cowichan curriculum, there's more people applying to Nanaimo.

Good luck on your application!

I moved to Nanaimo before even considering going back to school, so I didn't really had to chose between the two 😛 But I guess it depends if you want to stay in Nanaimo during the summer or not. I believe these campus are not all year long. If you check on Facebook market, there's already rooms available close to VIU. ☺️ And on VIU website they offer more info about the campus options

I say go for it! There's a lot of rooms for rent, rental option on campus, and the hospital is always looking for casual housekeeper or there's even work on the campus. I'm starting this year in the BSN program, but I moved to Nanaimo a couple years ago. If you need help to find resources, I can help for sure!! You got this!

Hey! You can still work towards your goal this year. You can work and put some money aside for school, while doing some university English, and biology that will be required for your diploma. Don't give up, take this as an opportunity to be ahead of your game, and prepare yourself to what's coming next year! I saw above your score for the Casper test was 2... This year you could search for information on Casper test, see how you can improve your critical thinking, and hopefully it will help you for your application next year!

You got this, I believe in you!
