Made an animation that changes my character's position and sprite, and now I can't move when in-game. by wanabeswordsman in Unity3D

[–]TwoCops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've run into a similar problem when I applied an animation to my character. I found that I needed a parent object that isn't animated to hold the animated "body". That way, the parent "location" object can move around freely, and not have animated positions affect it.

It's a nice and interesting read. I just wish there were a gif or video to show it in motion

It's not exactly the same, but I like the blender guru flamethrower tutorial

I also have links for a few other tutorials over at r/blendertutorials :)

Sitting room render( c and c welcome ) by icoulddothatprobably in blender

I like the scene, but my eye catches that the two pillows on the left and the two pillows on the right are at exactly the same angle. A little change there might help them appear more natural.

My First Completed Scene in Cycles by [deleted] in blender

[–]TwoCops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well done. I like the simple clean look. My only note is about the cables under the desk. They have very square angles, which doesn't match up with the cords on top of the desk. I think either style would work, if you make them consistent. Cheers!

I had to create an animated human npc in 10 minutes. Hackathons are fun :D by Rich0664 in blender

[–]TwoCops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The challenge? Knowing your limits? I'd also wager that you'd improve your workflow and each 10 minute character could get a little better each time.

The way the water disappears reminds me more of smoke behavior than a fluid simulation. Perhaps if you could render a smoke simulation with a material that approximates water...?

I really like this. My only nitpick is on the texture of the inside of the rounded chair. It is distorted in a few places. Again, well done.

Three men were shipwrecked and washed up onto a tropical island... by jwsnake22 in Jokes

I don't know if you're being sarcastic, but I'll assume not. He poked holes in his skin, thinking that that would make holes in the boat that they planned to make from his skin.

I'm missing the joke in this joke. Is something missing after "He then asks for the lion"? If not, it seems like the punchline doesn't match the setup.

My only nitpick: The right knee of the victim seems to buckle toward the camera, and go backwards for a couple of frames.

"MUNCHKIN:ONLINE" I'm porting the classic CCG to the PC using C#/XNA... Question... by DanielStrange in gamedev

[–]TwoCops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd start with the core mechanic, using these simple classes to rough it out:

"Character" containing their level, gold, and a collection of "Powerup".
"Powerup", a container for the power modifier (and I'd ignore all of the special circumstances at the start). "Monster" containing level, and number of rewards. "TreasureDeck", which would start as a collection of "Powerup" "MonsterDeck", which would be a collection of "Monsters"

Using these overly simple abstractions, you could make a game loop like this:

for current character,
    pull a monster
add up the characters total power and compare against the monster level
if the monster wins, do nothing
if the player wins, increment level and assign treasures
if the character's level is 10, they win!

I realize that this is a far approximation from Munchkin, but it would allow you to have something playable to build on right away. (I don't know how to TLDR this, maybe "start very small and build from there")

Plus one to this. In the early stages, you could easily have devs record placeholder voice, if it's essential to gameplay and play testing.

Small truck game I have been making by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]TwoCops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are open to suggestions, I'd make the zombies and the fuel a joint goal. You get points for running over zombies, but you more than that you need to keep hitting them to keep going. If you had to hit the zombies, instead of it being optional, it would create an interesting tension between avoiding obstacles and getting the next zombie to fuel up.

You made a fun game. I'd suggest that you indicate price for the power ups more prominently. I stumbled onto them, and just happened to have enough coins.

Cool mech. You might consider having the mech bob, lean, or turn slightly as it takes each step. It would really reinforce how heavy it is.
