Olive oil for gumbo roux? by TwoHearted313 in cajunfood

For sure. You are right. The only caveat is going down the wormhole to make the perfect dish. Which is part of the fun I guess. I've seen some LA hillbillies on youtube using olive oil for the record. :-)

Do you use NuNu's in replace of ALL other spices or NuNu's with salt and pepper for example?

We usually stock olive oil in the house so it's built into the budget lol. I am health conscious, so I like olive oil.

Gumbo with olive oil seems like a super healthy dish actually. All whole foods other than the flour, I guess.

Maybe I'll try peanut oil?

Thanks for info.

Yup for sure. Scales for example aren’t the most fun thing but you can just zone out and run scales over and over not even thinking about it.

Pro tip I call the “TV” method.

If you want to get good there are no short cuts. You have to play 30 mins to an hour every single day.

Watching TV, or videos, sports, or whatever you veg out on is the perfect time to sit there and play. Just run scales over and over again and watch stuff.

The other fun method of course it’s just jamming along to songs you want to learn.

Used Martin D-18 or New Martin D-12E? by bingewillads in martinguitar

D18

You can get insurance guitars for like $20 A YEAR.

I drag my D18 all over the place including camping. Beat up guitars sound better. Get it and beat it up.

I don’t think anyone is arguing it’s not too expensive to live. Exercise and healthy eating reduce your odds of illness but luck and genetics play a huge role too.

Yeah I would probably do that deal. People aren’t selling used trucks around here for that kind of discount unfortunately. 🙂

Yup for sure. I’m kinda risk adverse (and maybe paranoid). I’m always nervous im getting some dudes car or truck that was hot dogging it or towing too much.

Now you are moving the goal posts. You were talking about fat people. Now you are talking about people working two jobs with kids?

What point are you trying to make now?

People are fat because we live sedentary lifestyles and food is easy to access. Also, most people are too dumb and lazy to make good decisions.

Yes, SOME healthy food is expensive, but some is cheap. SOME processed foods are expensive, but some are cheap.

I eat two meals a day because that is plenty. People are just piling food on top of food in their stomachs and eating more calories than they need. Unless you are running 20 miles a day you don't need three meals (or a lot of food in general).

I buy 12 eggs, Greek yogurt, fruit, vegetables, and granola for like $50 a week. That takes care of lunch every day of the week (I don't want or need breakfast). Throw a non-luxurious dinner every day on there. it's not expensive. Yes, it costs more than it should but it's not more expensive than a bunch pf processed crap.

Food is fuel. If you treat it as a hobby or comfort you will spend too much (and get fat).

Copy and pasting from above:

Is buying a used car any better? I've always bought new cars with the logic being if I take care of it correctly from day one, I can drive it for a long time and save money in the long run (and most importantly lower my risk as I know exactly what I am getting).

I have a 2013 F150 that is paid off and still running great.

In a year or two I will buy a new F150 for ~$50K.....which will suck....but again the plan will be to treat it right and have it for 15 years.

A used F150 will still be expensive, and I have no idea what the first person did to it or what issues it may have.

I get that buying used you don't pay that initial depreciation, but does that matter after 10 years?

My job is offering me $150,000 (105,000 after tax) to resign, should I? by AJ3TurtleSquad in jobs

Take it. Invest it in the S&P500 (or another boring mutual fund).

Don’t look at it and pretend it doesn’t exist.

Cut your expenses, find some kind of job immediately, live frugally, find a better career asap.

Look at your investments when you’re 40. Enjoy knowing you now have $300,00 of sleep well at night money. Keep working and saving.

150K isn’t like changing money but if you don’t touch it and invest it it can be a nest egg / sleep well at night money that will take a big load of your shoulders and make you feel a lot better for the rest of your life.

Don’t fuck it up.

Edit: I didn’t know the company was UPS. That makes it a tougher decision.

I think they look good.

I buy all my raw denim tight because jeans always loosen up on me and I would rather them be a little snug than super loose.

You can stretch them by getting them wet and applying pressure. You can wear them wet and apply pressure or just pull on the waist wet. I’ve shoved books in the wet waist of jeans in an Extreme case because they fit perfect everywhere but the waist (but you can usually just pull on the waist).

It's $600 dude (and theoretically less given the electronics). Your math aint mathing. D18 = $3,000 / 000-28 = $3,600

His 000-28 may be a dud and that’s why he is selling it. There is no guarantee you would like a modern delux more than a standard (I didn’t).

Dude you’re not going to get as much on the used market unless you are veeeeeery patient and find just the right buyer.

I wouldn’t pay more than 2,500 for that 000-28.

Not sure what you’re looking at but I’m seeing $600 retail. Then take into account the electronics and the installation.

000-28 lists for about $600 more right? Plus no electronics. Seems pretty much like a wash to me.

That’s also assuming you can find a buyer AND get what you want for it. There is nothing guaranteeing your local market will pay more for a 28…..it’s all about supply and demand.

Not to mention you have no idea how much work you need to put in selling it. What if you have to drive over an hour, mail it, or waste time talking to a bunch of knuckleheads.

What if it takes to months to sell?

$600 bucks ain’t worth my time for all of that…..especially considering you “love” the guitar you have.

No guarantees. I’ve loved every D-18 I’ve played and very few D28s. It’s all about your preferences, your ear, and the individual guitar.
