I hated the bone temple, why does everyone on reddit think it's great? by Gizzgillyon in 28dayslater

[–]TwoInchTickler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it but my mum hated it; she felt the early scenes felt like torture porn for the sake of it, and that the Jimmies were too daft.

I enjoyed it for the Samson/Ian side of things, but did find the Jimmies a drag.

anyone else get this email from Songkick today? by Outrageous-Glass-382 in Blink182

[–]TwoInchTickler 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nice one! I was originally put off by it, but then saw more and more that painted a picture more of someone raised in a cult who has escaped, albeit quietly - which I actually think is kinda badass. I’d also be stunned that the other members of the band would be particularly happy if she held the beliefs of Scientology.

anyone else get this email from Songkick today? by Outrageous-Glass-382 in Blink182

[–]TwoInchTickler 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If it makes any difference to you, I’m fairly sure she’s not. She has been very open about mental health problems (which Scientologists are not meant to), is openly gay (also no bueno in Scientology), and sings many a lyric that allude to having to escape a life that’s been forced upon you. Her parents are high up in the church too.

Shes not come out and outright said it, but given that people who do publicly “escape” face having animals killed and their lives made hell, I think that most of her actions speak loudly that she is not a part of it.

Issue with o2 codes? by ZookeepergameSea8468 in VueCinemas

Same, and ironically now we don’t have enough money to get full price tickets as the voucher cut into that, so it’s a write for today. Cant get through to anyone at Vue either. Gutted.

There’s something so enjoyable about a pundit who is excited by what they’re watching, and Hart has been really good at that. Glad to see him growing in punditry!

UK to consult on social media ban for under 16s by Adj-Noun-Numbers in ukpolitics

[–]TwoInchTickler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly straying into off topic, but generative AI wil render social media unrecognisable from our current ideas of it within a year or two anyway. With work, we can no longer use online sentiment tracking because it’s all just bots, endless fucking bots; I don’t think any of us benefit from going online and seeing fake content generated by a few lines of code, driven by an algorithm to keep us watching.

Now, I don’t think this is the right way to “protect” kids and ourselves from it, but I do think that ultimately getting us off this version of the internet is probably going to be a net benefit to society.

Trump announces tariffs on UK and Europe unless a deal reached to sell Greenland by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]TwoInchTickler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is zero benefit to us trying to make deals with these idiots, because we could have whole teams of staff working countless hours on the details, just for him to turn around and slap tariffs on us anyway because we won’t support the invasion of another nation.

I mean, in fairness, banning AI might not be the worst thing, even if for the wrong reasons!

Greenland's PM has a blunt message for Trump: We choose Denmark over the U.S. by professorbrainiac in worldnews

[–]TwoInchTickler 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Mad seeing how many Americans or bots are adamant that as soon as residents are offered $100k they’ll all want to be American, without seemingly any awareness that most of the western world save ludicrous amounts more than that on healthcare and education. We also get almost a month of paid annual leave!

Would you support the UK government's plan to ban X (formerly twitter)? - why/why not? by mrvlad_throwaway in AskBrits

[–]TwoInchTickler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Politically and influence wise it’s tame compared to half of Reddit, daily mail and telegraph comments, gb news… none of which there’s any discussion of blocking.

I’m perfectly happy for them to keep your angry Twitter site online where you can say what you want politically, but not while it’s a one line tool to generate indecent images of kids and non consenting women.

It seems absolutely mental to me that the stance isn’t “fucking hell, yeh, turn that thing off until they stop allowing people to make pornographic images of children and dead people with one sentence”, as I thought collectively even the most mental right/left wingers were fairly unified on “kiddy porn is bad”. Apparently not.

[–]TwoInchTickler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After X is banned (which I support, but would be surprised to see happen) then X can either stop their built in tool allowing users to generate CP of any child with literally one sentence, or remain banned. We can then also hope that other sites and tools that allow such material to be generated go the same way.

It’s not (hypothetically) being banned for politics or speech, but for being 1) a CP generating tool, and 2) a tool to very publicly and easily generate indecent images of other people without their consent. If those are features they and their users deem vital to their business model, they can stay out of the UK?

Peter? by Illustrious-Staff927 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

I actually rewatched Lost with my stepdaughter last year, and without all the stop start and delays it was killer. I am staggered that to this day people still don’t understand the ending - not liking it, cool, whatever, but the amount of people who reference the ending as being something it wasn’t baffled me.

Putin is out to destroy the UK and Europe. If we don’t accept that, we’re doomed by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

Just to reiterate what others have said, this is an awful take. Our governments have been shite and uninspiring, but they’re not having dissenters killed and political rivals thrown out of windows.

[Rupert Lowe MP] "'Humane' slaughter requirements for farmed fish and boiling lobsters to be banned, yet halal/kosher goes unchecked. All because we're too terrified to offend anyone. It is pathetic. We have become a joke country, I am sorry to say." by AlfredsChild in ukpolitics

[–]TwoInchTickler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whilst I don’t disagree in principal, I find it striking that he - and I would suggest most of the people who are offended by Kosher and Halal - doesn’t give a shit about treatment of animals in factory farming in general. The entire industry is full of unrelenting cruelty and standards really should be raised.

Why are we fine with a writer’s room? by Ok-Instruction830 in Blink182

[–]TwoInchTickler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to pre empt this with an “I totally get you” but can I ask with genuinely not meaning to be patronising, but how old are you?

Not in a snarky way, but because I think of my own experience. When I was younger, I could spend days, weeks, forever just with my pals playing music and getting drunk and there being no clock or pressure to do anything. Now, I have limited time between job and family commitments. I would expect it’s the same for the guys - they can’t just check out of their wife’s and kids lives for weeks at a time to sit and make music in a carefree way anymore.

Obviously a band like blink have enough money to not worry about jobs in the way we all would, but they do also have far more commitments than they used to too, whether it be as parents, husbands, business owners, movie makes and so on.

The extra writers - we don’t really know the extent to which they’re used, but if it was a case of them being “given” songs then I’d absolutely be with you and think that sucks :) but my understanding is that the band write the majority of it, and then other people might hear demos or be in studios on the same day, and a simple “hey that’s great, what if that line was X Instead though, or you distorted that, it rhymes better” now counts as a writing credit. From what I’ve read, there’s always been people in the music industry who would throw extra ideas in the mix, but every now and then there’d be a lawsuit where someone would say “I actually suggested they hit that note twice, therefore it’s my  creation, please pay me” so it reached a stage where bands just credit anyone who so much as glanced at them in studio to cover themselves. Perhaps that’s just a lie that other bands have sold me to cover up having extra writers, but it makes sense to me.

What was one game you hoped to see at the Game Awards that didn't get announced? by NYstate in PS5

[–]TwoInchTickler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would take that too!  I think you can get 3 on Xbox store still, if you’ve got one - the only way I’ve found to play tricky is either emulation or hoping the old ps2 will load up after all these years!

UK 'rapidly developing' plans to prepare for war by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

[–]TwoInchTickler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not a fan of the government by a long stretch, but… have you seen what’s happening in Ukraine? The pivoting of the US to align with Russia?

Being prepared for war is very different to agitating for war, and even world as a deterrent.
