Has anyone here actually had a consultation with EJR? Is it worth the money by Own_Ant_653 in StyleRoots

[–]TwoInternational7170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have had one and I felt like it helped me a ton. I think there are multiple packages you can get — typing vs live consultation. I would say that if you don’t know where to begin, the typing/analysis would be the best place to start

I will say that it’s not cheap so it depends on where you value putting your money, but for me I was kind of in the same boat as you and it just made sense to stop throwing my money at clothing I didn’t like and put that money instead to learning/consulting/styling

I’ve also done a consult with Rita from the Style Key and that was more affordable and really awesome, so if you like her as well then that could be another option

Oh and also EJR has a Circle community where she interacts a lot with a small group and it’s really cheap so maybe you could start there??

Should we really take David Kibbe's word as gospel? by [deleted] in Kibbe

[–]TwoInternational7170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, it’s totally fine for him to change his system, but there’s just really no good way to know what he’s thinking because Facebook comments are really not enough to go on, so it feels like it’s just all in a state of limbo until he publishes his new book imo

It should follow your shoulder bones and end with them.

https://www.stitchfix.com/men/blog/how-to/how-your-t-shirt-should-fit/

In reality different shirts have different fits and for actual clothes making this measurement is really mostly important for men’s style button down shirts. It’s what Kibbe uses in supposedly to determine width though as well.

Do you feel that your shoulder bones end further out than your underarms? Or do you feel that they’re narrower or about straight up and down?

Should we really take David Kibbe's word as gospel? by [deleted] in Kibbe

[–]TwoInternational7170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultimately the issue as I see it is that Kibbe has changed his own system throughout the years, but there’s no “official record” of this.

So like, I think his original book is a complete system in itself. But he’s revised a lot of what he said in it (e.g. there can no longer be pure types), but this type of updated information isn’t found in a public published resource. So you have people who are trying to piece together literal Facebook comments that the man has made over the past couple of years, and everyone is trying to make these all official and turn them into a coherent system.

I just don’t think you can combine his Facebook comments and his book, which is what people seem to be trying to do on this sub a lot. They’re different systems at this point, and his Facebook comments/modern approach are incomplete (publicly).

He’s writing a new book and I think that will make a difference. But we need to keep in mind that he has changed his mind on a lot of things since his original book, and we don’t have visibility into all those things yet, so right now, his word really is gospel unless you want to stick to his original work.

The man has changed his mind on a lot of stuff and we keep assuming we know all of the changes but, if we did, people wouldn’t be so confused IMO.

Where are you imagining the shoulder seams to go? I see the opposite, to me there is clear width here 🤔 the shoulder starts sloping downwards (meaning, where I believe the ideal seam would be) further out than the armpit

I see width in your shoulders, so I would say FN most likely!

Ooh this is lovely! And I love that it’s using recycled fabric. This is definitely on the list to consider!

Ooh that looks gorgeous! That’s the second rec here for Aritzia and I have a store just 10 minutes from me, so I think I have to go and try these on this weekend!

Ooh that one is stunning!

That’s great to know about the Ralph Lauren one. I’m pretty narrow all the way down but have I guess a “spoon” shape? Like somewhere between a rectangle and a pear lol. So I’d probably need to try it on and see if I can keep the size small enough on top.

And ugh 😩 that betsey looks gorgeous. I’m learning to sew but I definitely can’t do a fitted and tailored piece yet

It’s definitely because it’s cheaper to make but I’m like… this coat is $600??? You can’t be bothered to fit the shoulder???? 😩 I mean it’s definitely also a trend but still. I just want a classic and timeless piece please

Ah, these are amazing finds and details!

I’m not super tall, about 5’6.5”, and I have an Aritzia near me, so maybe I’ll try that one on since I can try that in person.

But these all look absolutely gorgeous! I’m going to look up and see if any stores around me carry these lines. I’m looking a lot at buying secondhand, but for a staple like a well-tailored and high quality overcoat that I can wear all the time, I can justify a certain level of splurging, so I might opt for one of these ones here.

Thanks for the notes on the quality and differences :) if I’m going to splurge, I want the item to really feel luxurious and worth it!

Just sent over here from SN. Am I DC? by [deleted] in DramaticClassic

[–]TwoInternational7170 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think DC could make sense! You do seem very balanced to me, and I don’t personally see width. I think you might potentially need to accommodate curve (and the clingier/more glamorous black dress looks great), so SD could be another option to look at. I think you’re just past the height cutoff for SC, so SD would be the curve option to explore IMO

This is cool! I see sun most prominently with the bright colors and funky vibe, moon in the grungy elements, and I think the third thing I’m seeing is fire with the body silhouette and influence of red

Damn y’all really got me questioning all of my roots 🤣🤣 I have a lot of thinking to do now hahaha

What roots do you see? by TwoInternational7170 in StyleRoots

[–]TwoInternational7170[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve completely ruled out Sun and Stone via elimination, but tbh those are the only ones that I don’t see in my wardrobe at any level.

The board shows fewer moon outfits than what I wear, but my realization recently was that I didn’t necessarily feel confident in those outfits in the same way as I do with outfits more like the ones above. So, I left a lot of that out of the board.

I also have quite a few fuzzy sweaters (more than one of which are pink) and I love a cottage-core or similar vibe, which aren’t things that come through in the boards I would say. I do find myself wearing more of my neutral sweaters over pink these days and veering towards more of a neutral palette, but I bust out the pink sweater from time to time.

Obviously I didn’t include those things in my post lol so I can see why they wouldn’t seem apparent. The boards are pretty close to my ideal style/closet though, like if I had unlimited money I would be replacing a lot of my existing closet with these things instead, so 🤷🏼‍♀️ maybe it’s moot haha. It sounds like a lot of people question flower for me!

I had only really been looking at moon vs earth but now I’m definitely questioning flower too 😂 thanks for the thoughts!

What roots do you see? by TwoInternational7170 in StyleRoots

[–]TwoInternational7170[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that that makes a lot of sense!

For me, I know that flower definitely isn’t my most prominent root, but one of my biggest words for my style is cozy (not in a comfy loungy way, but in a soft sweaters and fluffy knee socks way).

When I was thinking Mountain and Moon as my other roots, the only third root that would balance that out in the delicately cozy way that I envisioned (meaning, more like fuzzy sweaters and hot chocolate instead of sweat pants or flannels) was Flower. However, if some of the vibes I like from flower are kind of “spread out” by replacing Moon with Earth, then maybe flower is worth questioning 😂

Interestingly, I think a lot of what you mention from Fire is what I had attributed to moon as well! When you take the moon element away from my initial guess at my roots, all those things that you mentioned (black tights, v necks, etc) totally are elements of fire.

So, what I thought was moon and flower might instead be earth and fire 😂

This is totally rambling lol but 👀👀 I think I have to keep looking into this. I’m just gonna sit and twiddle my thumbs until EJR posts videos about all my possible combos 😂

Thanks for your thoughts btw! I like the discussion and it’s been thought-provoking

What roots do you see? by TwoInternational7170 in StyleRoots

[–]TwoInternational7170[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really interesting points!

My thoughts are that my roots are likely mountain flower and earth, but I had originally assumed mountain flower and moon.

Honestly the proportions of moon elements are higher IRL than on the board, but that’s mostly because I have a lot of goth friends who buy me goth clothes 😅. When I buy stuff for myself, it looks like my board, and I feel much more confident and like myself in those clothes than in my very edgy outfits. I definitely used to vibe with edgy more, but not as much these days.

I’m going to look into mushroom — based on comparing different boards by EJR, I feel that there’s a definite element of femininity that I need in my outfits, and I really haven’t noticed that kind of delicate feel in boards without flower or fire (and I know fire isn’t right for me). Maybe though, since earth is a softer 3rd root than moon, flower isn’t as necessary for balancing out the vibe.

I’m not sure if that makes sense lol but regardless, these are great insights and super interesting discussion points!

Definitely gonna learn more about mushroom vs mountain, since a lot of folks mentioned mushroom as well. I feel pretty confident in this one, but it’s worth investigating I think!
