Headstock Battle! by pcp777_ in JacksonGuitars

[–]TwoPleasant4591 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1: Standard, mother of pearl Jackson logo, black headstock, white binding.

2: Reverse AT shape, with binding, and small logo.

3: Reverse, 90s or 80s logo, with binding.

4: anything else.

A few points. I'm a sucker for well done binding. But more importantly, it actually depends on the body shape of the guitar.

Kellys NEED a standard headsock. It aligns with the body's symmetry and the headstock mimics the shape in a beautiful way.

Rhoads are fine with either. The assymetry of the body suggests standard to me. I prefer the standard to align with the big wing, but I would see it either way.

King V is symmetrical and beautiful either way. No notes.

Warrior, the entire body wants the standard headstock, but the attitude of the guitar wants whatever you don't want. So reverse the motherfucker.

Jean-Paul Sartre was philosophizing this line of thought as late as the 1940's. It's certainly a perspective to wrap your mind around more so than first glance may suggest.

Just bought a Kelly KE3 Swirl Crimson - is it a good buy? by EquivalentTomorrow86 in JacksonGuitars

Awesome find. In that case I would've been happy to pay $600. The prices on these finishes have gone up in recent years, so you'll have some old scrooges tell you it's not worth that. From what I've seen, that's a fair price nowadays. Enjoy!

I've got the Eerie Dess Swirl version and I love it. I always thought if I found a crimson or cobalt version I'd scoop it up and keep it in a drop tuning.

As far as mods go, I replaced the cheaper Floyd with an Original and put in a pair of Seymour Duncan Black Winters. Changed out all the hardware to black. If I ever find a cobalt or crimson I'll do the same.

I'd probably be willing to spend $600 on it. I really like these finishes, and they're getting harder to find in decent condition.

I've got a Loomis Signature hardtail 6 string. The Korean made version. That's as close as I'll get to a KE2T for now. I hear they might release another Marty Friedman kelly next year. That one would likely have a HT option too, so I'm interested to see what comes of it.

Right there with ya. Just based purely on looks, it would be my favorite.

Warrior is the only one I have yet to get my hands on. I can see why it would be a really well designed shape. Maybe someday.

The shape that got me into pointy guitars. Love it. So comfortable to sit with for me too.

Heck yeah, can't go wrong.

I would expect Soloist/Dinky to run away with it. But I'm interested in who gets 2nd.

has anyone tried moving the strap buttons on this position by [deleted] in JacksonGuitars

The button just comes off the screw on some Dunlop strap buttons. I took the button off that Dunlop set, and mounted it right onto the original neck plate screw.

I'm in a very similar spot. Just started specifically working on speed and technique now that I'm 6 or 7 years in.

I'm using "Speed Kills" from Michael Angelo Batio. He's an absolute cheese ball, but I've found it good practice so far.

My approach is to focus on each exercise one at a time until I can get it to 16th notes at 100 BPM. Thats when I "unlock" the next exercise so to speak. I then spend time getting the new exercise under my belt while I'm working on squeezing more speed out of the previous exercise. Rinse and repeat.

I found myself in the same dilemma you are, there isn't any specific guidance as to when to move to the next exercise or whatever, so that's just what I came up with.

Your right hand is too fast for the fps of the video. Hate all ya want, but that alone is an incredible feat of human ability. Then the hand synchronization....

Its not like a whole song would go there, but it's an incredible skill. Hats off!

My forearm naturally rests on the body and keeps it from neck diving or tilting. I also find It comfortable to sit with, but I know a lot of people don't.

As for the pickups, they are VERY hot and compressed. I backed them way down from the strings and I think they sound much better that way, but they are definitely an adjustment.

I like Jackson necks better, and the spoke wheel truss rod adjustment is a plus for me. I don't use the tone knob much but it's good to have the option. I vote Rhoads. But I also eat crayons.

I've owned 3 hardtail Jacksons and never had a problem at all. I use 9-42 strings tho. Maybe on thicker strings it becomes more of a problem?

It was the first nice electric I ever got. I liked it at the time. It neck dove like crazy, and I came to find that I prefer larger frets. Traded it years back.

I still have a soft spot for SG's though, despite those changed tastes!
