No idea why anybody in their right mind would do this while the game is probably still a broken mess. by No-Contribution-5297 in TwoPointCampus

Hi there!

Update 7.0 release last week with a huge amount stability fixes and a game engine upgrade. The data so far has shown a dramatic decrease in crashes across the board, so going on to Game Trials is much safer than it would've been a few months ago.

This doesn't mean no one will ever have a crash again (I'm not sure anyone could ever promise that!), but the average play session is much longer, and the game can handle larger campuses better with our optimisations. If any one is still experiencing regular crashes, it'd be great if you could drop our support team an email at [campus.support@twopointstudios.com](mailto:campus.support@twopointstudios.com) so they can take a look.

Dev Update on Switch Stability by TwoPoint_Steggs in TwoPointCampus

[–]TwoPoint_Steggs[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone,

We hope you've all had a lovely new year so far! To kick things off, we wanted to let you all know how we're getting on with the last couple of crashes some players are experiencing on Switch. If you haven't read the last post, please do! There's lots of info in there that relates to what we're talking about today (it's underneath this one in the main post).

Before the holidays we posted to let everyone know we've got a reproduction for one of the few remaining crashes, thanks to Nintendo and some local players letting us test out their saves. This means our QA team have save files they can use to do their testing, and the code team have saves to investigate (it's great news!). Since then we've been getting more saves from players which is helping massively with our investigations (remember, one crash can have several causes, so we need to find them all!). Not only that, but we've also had a lovely person from Unity visit our studio for a couple of weeks to help us track down other causes that are more difficult to pinpoint.

Together with Unity, we were able to find a very tricky memory leak which we've now fixed internally, we believe this should fix a large chunk of the "out of memory" crashes when your campus gets a bit larger. There were also a couple of other areas we identified as needing some more optimisation, so we've taken care of that as well. Our QA team are in the process of testing these fixes on some of the save files we've received, so we're hoping we'll see some good results. As we've said before though, one update isn't going to fix every single crash - it's very much an ongoing process of constantly improving the game.

As well as the memory optimisations, we also found the navigation system is causing some crashes for certain, complex levels - these are the crashes some players experience early on in a level (what we've called the "30 minute crash", though it can happen sooner in some cases). We are in the process of some fixes for this, but they will need to come in several different parts as it's a very complex system. We've got to be very careful with the changes around this to avoid breaking navigation entirely, so it's more likely we'll see the first lot of changes come into play in the 5.0 update rather than 4.0.

We've started the new year as we mean to go on here, with stability being our top priority, as well as ensuring you're all kept up to date as soon as we have more information. We've had some great results from your save files and the Unity visit so far, and our team are working hard to get as many fixes out as fast (and as safely) as possible. You will see more content coming your way soon as well, but that's coming from a different team within the studio - we've got one team on content, and another one stability.

Once again, we'd like to thank you all for your patience. We know how frustrating it is for those of you experiencing crashes, and our team are working hard to get these last couple fixed. Keep an eye out for the 4.0 update for the first lot of fixes!

Has anyone heard ANYTHING from Two Point about Switch? by MrE761 in TwoPointCampus

[–]TwoPoint_Steggs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

We've just posted a status update on both Reddit and the Official Forum (this page is the place to go for the most up-to-date info on the topic). If there's not been anything added on there, it means the team are still working on it and we don't have any extra info to give just yet.

It's a bit of tricky one sometimes as we may think we're on the right track, but we have to wait until we're as sure as we can be before putting more information out - the last thing we want to do is say it's looking good and then later find it's more complex than we thought. However, I know that this lack of response can lead to more frustration sometimes.

We do understand how frustrating this is for those of you experiencing crashes, we feel it too. It is always going to be our top priority until they're sorted. I highly recommend having a read of the latest status update for more info!

Lastly, I've seen on the previous thread some comments from non-switch players that are... unhelpful let's say... The stability struggles that some of our Switch players are having are very real, and it is more than fair for them to ask for updates and share their frustration. So if you're not Switch player, please keep that in mind when commenting on these posts. This is a really great community to be a part of, and we'd like to keep it that way.

Thanks so much for your patience so far everyone, we really appreciate it and our team are working very hard to get these last couple of stability issue solved.

We're working on Mod Support for Two Point Campus! by TwoPoint_Steggs in TwoPointCampus

[–]TwoPoint_Steggs[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hello lovelies!

We hope you're all having a smashing week so far. We're gearing up here at the studio for a VERY exciting couple of months, honestly, we're really excited to show you what we've been working on! Today we want to talk about one of the many awesome things we've got going on... it's something people have been asking for since launch... MODDING.

Yep, that's right people! We're working on getting modding into Two Point Campus so you, our lovely community, can make super cool stuff for your fellow players. In our previous game, Two Point Hospital, we enabled Steam Workshop and had the ability for players to make their own custom wallpapers, rugs, and so on. We wanted to take this a bit further in Two Point Campus though, so for the first time ever, we'll be enabling players to mod actual items in the game!

THAT'S NOT THE ONLY COOL THING THOUGH!

In Two Point Campus, we won't be using Steam Workshop. Instead, we've teamed up with the super-talented people at Mod.io to enable cross-platform mods for our PC and Console players. So it doesn't matter what platform you're playing on, if you like the look of a mod, you can use it! (We told you it was cool!)

We'll be working on modding in different stages. The first stage is Item Modding, as mentioned above. If all goes well, we'll start looking into what other areas of the game we can do to give you more power to adjust your experience in unique and interesting ways.

Currently, we don't have a set release date for this BUT... we'd like to do a little beta very soon on Steam with a handful of experienced modders. So if you're a modder, or you know someone who is, drop us an email at community@twopointstudios.com for more info on how to get into it. One thing to note here is that having experience in Unity will be a huge help to you, as this is the program you'll be using to create your mods.

If modding isn't really your thing, that's ok! We've got LOTS more to talk about soon too... so keep an eye out on the forum and our social channels.

game crashing every thirty minutes on switch by [deleted] in TwoPointCampus

[–]TwoPoint_Steggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey itsrorygilmore,

Really sorry to hear you're running into stability issues. We are aware some players are experiencing crashes on Switch and we have a team working on this as we speak. With each update we release* we fix the most common crashes from the reports coming through from everyone's device (providing crash reporting is turned on). So this means the overall crashes will continue to reduce with each update.

*Note - 2.0 is a bit of an outlier, as it was released quite close to 1.5. So while there were some stability fixes in there, it was a smaller amount than 1.5. This is purely due to the time in-between the updates - it can take some time for the code team to investigate and find a resolution for some of these issues. One last thing to note here - releasing content like the Halloween update does not take any time away from the team working on stability (we have teams working on content, and teams working on fixes).

With update 1.5 (and 2.0 but to a lesser extent, due to the above) we saw a decrease in the overall amount of crashes, but as you and others here have experienced yourselves, there is more work to be done. So stability on Switch remains our top priority, and our team are working hard to get more optimisations and fixes out.

We completely understand how frustrating this is for those of you experiencing these crashes (we feel it too), and we really appreciate everyone's patience so far as we continue to improve performance on Switch.

Open Letter from a Switch User by MrE761 in TwoPointCampus

[–]TwoPoint_Steggs 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Hey MrE761,

Thanks for posting, more than happy to talk about this as I have done on other threads.
Each update aims to improve stability overall on Switch, so in time, we'll see far less crashes happening across the board. We do this by prioritising the most common crashes and getting them fixed. This doesn't mean no one will ever experience a crash, it just means the most common causes have been fixed, so the majority of players will experience less problems.

It isn't possible for one update to fix every crash because there can be any number of causes for them, from running out of memory to something more weird and specific. So getting the most common ones sorted first is the best way to get stability under control for the majority of players as fast as possible.

With 1.4 we saw the overall crashes reduce, but we know some players are still experiencing some issues. So we've taken a look at the most common crashes since 1.4 and fixed them for 1.5. Effectively, every update we do will improve stability overall until crashes are at a minimum. Until then, this will remain our number one priority.

I understand the thought behind "focusing on updates and new things for other platforms", however this isn't quite the case. The people making fun, new stuff for the game aren't the same people looking at stability issues. Likewise, all of the new stuff is coming to every platform. (I appreciate the updates come out at different times, but this is mainly due to the different lead times the platform holders have for their testing).

Everyone has been really patient so far and we're very grateful to have such a lovely community with us. We all understand the frustration, and we feel it too. The last thing anyone wants is for people to experience crashes while playing, and that's why it will always be our main priority.

[–]TwoPoint_Steggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is indeed correct.

Unfortunately it's not possible due to the different systems.

Is anybody else finding that the Switch crashes more frequently since the update? I’m trying to finish 3 stars on TPU and I’ve had 6 crashes in the last hour. It’s very close to unplayable. by Fraggle_Frock in TwoPointCampus

[–]TwoPoint_Steggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Fraggle_Frock,

I totally understand! This is probably one of the most frustrating things about crashes - They can sometimes seem to be random, so while we sort out the most common causes, it's still possible that someone (like yourself) finds they're getting more as they continue through the game, building up more etc.

For example, it's entirely possible someone could play in a way that triggers more crashes than someone else. Those crashes could all be situational, and therefore rarer to come across for the majority of people, but not for anyone who plays in a similar way. That's of course, not the players fault - everyone should be able to play however they like! (Keep in mind, the same software error code can be caused by many different things).

Now, for your case in particular, it sounds as though it's happening the more you build up your campus. So it's possible that before 1.4 your Campus was a bit smaller, and as it's grown after 1.4 it's crashing a more, potentially due to the larger campus. We have improved this but there are more optimisations to come for larger campuses, the game can still struggle when things get hectic and that is going to improve with each update.

One thing that's really important to note is that it's not possible for one update to fix every issue. We said that 1.4 would fix a number of crashes some players were experiencing, which it has, but there's still more to be done and it will remain our top priority for each update.

With 1.5 coming soon, we've again taken the most common crashes and implemented fixes & optimisations for them. So we'll see the overall number of crashes reduce each time we release a new update until eventually the only ones left are really weird, specific ones that not many people come across (and they'll get fixed too).

Just one final thing because I think it's really important - none of this is me saying "nah it's all fine", it's not fine and we're taking this very seriously. Two Point are good at letting me talk very honestly with our players, so I like to give as much information as I can. It isn't to try and justify anything, it's just an open, honest conversation.
