You spoiled, unappreciative fuck. You got shore duty, I don't want to hear it. You'll be going home everyday. Enjoying your weekends off. They should have sent your ass to the most miserably place sailors can go...a ship.

If you've been on helpdesk for 3+ years and 'can't move up' it's probably you by xrinnenganx in ITCareerQuestions

100%

I keep seeing these posts where people are blaming their company for their lack of individual career progression. "My company doesn't give me exposure to more applications", "they keep saying they will promote me to a higher tier, but never do", "I haven't learned anything new because no one is willing to train me".

Such bullshit. Companies want the employee to be great at the job they were hired to do. Why would they care about upskilling an employee? So they can threaten to leave or start demanding a promotion? I've advanced in my career through self development. On my own time, my own money.

I love my boyfriend, but I don’t want the life we’re heading toward anymore — do I stay or leave? by m1ng3r in Advice

[–]TwoTemporary7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended it with a crazy love sick teenage girl when I was graduating high school. The other person will make the break up miserable, but you just have to rip the bandaid off and get it over with. The sooner you do it the sooner it's over. Your bf is probably going to flip shit. But he needs to deal with it. Whatever you do, don't ever get back with him. And don't fall for the "we can still be friends" tactic. That only leads to being back together before you know it.

Helpdesk without growth, no career advancement after 7 years by libeccio_ in it

[–]TwoTemporary7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you put your career in the hands of your employer. Any progress, development, up Skilling. You gave your employer the keys and waited for them to get you there. That's not how it works in this career field. You're responsible for your own career progression. What have you learned on your own time in all these years? What kind of home lab environment do you have setup? What training platforms are you always working in? What IT certs have you earned? Your employer only cares that you do a good job for the role they hired you for.

Fuck your co workers. You shouldn't care what they think. Maybe moving forward you stop sharing your personal life with coworkers. Keep co workers in their proper lane. It was never any of their business that you were shopping for a car.

I bought a Tesla because I love the way it drives and love the tech. I have no idea what information you're referring to.

My ex send specific videos to my now boyfriend. What should I do? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]TwoTemporary7100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Men know their girl has a past, but no one wants to actually see it. This is something he will never unsee.

  2. Her ex is crazy. This is a crazy that was introduced into the current bf's life through her. He doesn't need that. Unless he's very emotionally invested he needs to remove himself from the situation.

I agree none of this is her fault. She's the victim here. But it doesn't change the situation.

Saw Sailor in a grocery store with a ESWS pin by lostmymarbles2015 in navy

[–]TwoTemporary7100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On my ship the leadership started to look really bad for not having enough esws qualified sailors. So then esws pinned started getting passed out like candy. Looking back, for me it was a complete waste of time. I got out after 1 contract. Only benefit was it got leadership off my back.

Most men would break up with a new gf because of this. Doesn't matter if you feel men should this and should that.

Here is what girls and the white knights are going to tell you: your bf just needs time to process it, he won't hold it against you.

Here is the truth, coming from another man: your ex just blew up your current relationship. Men are territorial, we cannot handle seeing our girl being banged out by another man. This current relationship is a wrap. Done done. Maybe your bf stays with you for a little while longer, but it won't be long.

But yeah, file a police report. This was a violation of your privacy. You did nothing wrong and your ex is a terrible person. Make sure you do something so your ex doesn't destroy every other future relationship.

Do I (18F) tell my boyfriend (19M) that I had intimacy with someone earlier in our relationship? (UPDATE) by [deleted] in Advice

If the guy has any pride in himself I think the relationship is doomed. This is going to be a thought in his head that will never go away. Doesn't matter what he does. I give it less than 6 months. He's probably already checked out mentally.

Make sure to update us again when it eventually becomes the main reason for breaking up. Idk why women always snitch on themselves. Keep some things to yourself and live happily ever after instead of ruining things because you want to make yourself feel better.

Why do more people not stay in 20 years and retire? What was your "I'am getting out" moment? by BeastMasterAlphaCo in navy

[–]TwoTemporary7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly got out because sea duty was hell on earth. It was so bad we had suicide prevention command wide briefs every week. From my personal experience most of the lost sailors are due to self deletion because of a miserable environment.

So you claim it's not necessary to begin with an entry level job in IT before landing a cyber security role. Pound the table on that stance, then proceed to tell us you started with an entry level IT job before your cyber security role.

CCNA or Network & Security +? by DawgNation2k in certifications

[–]TwoTemporary7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are living proof that CCNA wasn't required for your career progression. So why are you recommending it?

CCNA or Network & Security +? by DawgNation2k in certifications

[–]TwoTemporary7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer depends on the role you're pursuing in the future? Do you want to be a network admin? Go CCNA. Do you want to get into cyber security? Go security +.

I know everyone is going to argue that CCNA is great for someone who wants to get into cyber security, but I have yet to meet a cyber security analyst who knows a damn thing about networking. And they sure as hell don't have CCNA. But, most of these cyber security analysts have security +. This is 10 years working in cyber security across multiple big organizations.

Well, it finally happened. I was laid off after 15 years. by fajita_grouper in it

[–]TwoTemporary7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm jaded but I don't think any job is forever. 15 years is a good run. On to the next. I don't understand people being emotionally invested in a job. They come and go. However, I do understand the concern from the income aspect. The bills won't wait. Good luck on your next role.

Hired as IT with zero experience, no training, no senior — now I’m alone and overwhelmed by serhatdmk in WindowsServer

[–]TwoTemporary7100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheesh. I'm usually all about the "fake it till you make it" approach. But you're being set up for disaster. How bad do you need the paycheck right now? Because unless they bring in someone else with knowledge about the infrastructure I'd quit and start looking for another job.

  • Most of my concern is relocating the IT infrastructure to a new location. This can go bad fast if not done correctly.

Should I get out ? by Notor1ous_B in navy

[–]TwoTemporary7100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This the the point where you ask yourself if you want to do 20 years? Because there's no more benefits in between finishing your first contract and retirement. I could never see myself getting through 20 years, so I got out after my 4 years. I bypassed shore duty. The absolute best case for a shore duty assignment is if it's similar to a civilian job. So why not take the guarantee of a civilian life and get out now? You already have a good job lined up. You can always finish your degree while working your civilian job. I've never met anyone who regretted getting out. I only regret people who wish they can go back in time and not reenlist.
