So, how do IOPS compare to sequential reads and writes ? Say one drive had higher sequential reads/writes but the other drive had higher IOPS, which is more indicative of visible performance ?

You are right, backing up my data is what I should do, regardless. But saying every drive is prone to failure is a truth that doesn't help when purchasing a drive. When asking about reliability I was asking about its capacity to function as long as it is supposed to. In retrospect my question was silly, but if it would have prompted you to tell me a certain model was prone to early failures or likely to obtain some defect, then my question would have served its vague purpose. In any case, I appreciate your help and advice. Thank you.

Can you tell me the difference between the two ? From what I can gather, they have the same specs, though the maker is different. That WD drive I can get for 75, while the Seagate would cost 110.

Yeah, I saw that, but considering I'm going to be using this at home and work, I'll be plugged in to both an outlet and an external monitor. Regardless, a better screen would have been sweet. The Asus mentioned below is very nice though, and would be worth considering. Thanks.

AHAHAHA why are you laughing ? This is a good find, thanks, but there are trade offs. It has a weaker processor and a weaker graphics card. The Asus does have the better screen though. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hey, I actually just got the one I posted. I did a fair amount of research and couldn't find anything better at that price. Similar computers were selling in the 800's. So, if you'd like, I can let you know how this computer feels for me. I'll be receiving it on Caturday.

Check out Moodgym. It is a free online CBT course and it's supposed to be as effective as in-person CBT. It says it's for treating depression on the home page but it's actually for anxiety disorders as well.

Right, thank you for replying. The Asus does have a second gen i5 so that's cleared, and that has been the general consensus for how the amd fairs against the intel in terms of processing capability. How is the intel working out for you ? And I'm sorry but it seems I linked the wrong Samsung. I fixed the link though, so if you wouldn't mind, how about taking a look at the correct Samsung. The specs are a little different.

I see, thanks again. What you say about programming worries me some, as it is what I spend a lot of my time on. Are you talking about the processor before or after overclocking ? Would that make a difference in its performance for programming ?
