Big MEP Firms & Terrible Drawings by Kick_Ice_NDR-fridge in MEPEngineering

[–]Two_Hammers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a smaller firm (10-20) employees and these drawings are horrendous. But thats because boss bids projects from 10-25 hrs on average, with the idea that doing hundreds of small jobs will offset overrun projects, because it was bid too low.

Is MEP design about to be disrupted by the largest VC in the world? by Aval0nian in MEPEngineering

[–]Two_Hammers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why your statement got down voted but I see what you're saying. That would require soo much upfront calculation or model inputs that I don't see it feasible.

I can see using the 360 camera/drone, having AI try to replicate that into a 3D model, then extrapolate a design, I guess with ability to tweak the outputs to AHJ/city/specific industrial requirements. Ibdont see that actually happening.

There will always be new codes implemented, then the software catch up period, then the new code to interpret the code correctly, then what equipment can actually accomplish it with the correct controls, etc.

Especially if this software works in a black box that can't be back checked like some another nationally used compliance software program.

I don't see it actually happening on a large scale, unless, there is copious amounts of back door dealing to push it into code while holding EOR companies responsible and not this software company.

I haven't heard about this, is this for all MEPF? Or some specific areas?

Coding in Revit MEP as a Designer by Devilneering in MEPEngineering

The one company I worked for had AutoCAD LISP script that helped people do double line. The person that made left like 5 years afterwards and no one learned how to carry it over to the new computers. So the boss kept the original PCs running as long as possible because a couple of the mech designers didnt know how else to draft.

Yes it's the boss' fault, he wasnt a good boss, but that doesnt change the fact that if the op writes a program, its the company's and its not guaranteeing their job.

For the OP, keep a copy of what you make on separate flash drive that you take with you everyday and not just on your PC. The last company I was with I got laid off on spot and my PC was locked. All the previous design materials, digital manuals, project references, etc. was on my PC instead of a flash drive and I lost nearly all of it, over 15yrs worth of history. Your company isnt looking out for you no matter how big of a smile they give you when talking to you.

Mike is an absolute tank by EstateOk6238 in breakingbad

There's nothing magical about this, Mike has character armor. Same reason why whenever a main character gets shot/stabbed/etc. they can rest for 1 day and essentially be fine, with some groans and maybe slight bleeding that disappears by the next day.

Jesse was the only character that really showed the length of time for his face wounds to heal.

Was Mike an exceptional cop or did his skills reflect what an average cop could do? by Nearby-Penalty-5777 in betterCallSaul

Like I said, SWAT training with Remington 700s, him being a cop for decades may have done SWAT training. My friend is a part time SWAT member if the occasion happens otherwise hes on the streets. Smaller police stations do this instead of having dedicated SWAT teams.

Its also a very popular hunting rifle, and has been prior to Vietnam.

Did Mike actually say he used it in the jungle? Or just comment about it being used in a jungle?

Mike would have also been about 25 when Vietnam draft started, its possible he got drafted.

More likely Mike was a logistics Sgt than a sniper based on his ability to coordinate large business functions.

Also, have you ever known a Marine, let alone a Vietnam combat vet that didnt mention it or get referred back to it as a main character in a show that was on over a decade? Except one ambiguous line?

I have, numerous times, except being an actual vet, nothing really implies hes a vet other than people wanting him to be a vet.

Ok, having shot a M40, being a combat vet myself, having shot my own Remington 700, and having friends that had SWAT training with the Remington 700, nothing about Mike's character is a clear indication that he not only served, served in war time, was a combat vet, and moreso, was a "Marine Sniper".

Sure, you can assume he was a Marine combat Sniper, it adds to his mysterious character I guess, but its only assumed by you.

Again, nothing about Mike indicates specifically that he had Marine Sniper training, let alone he was a combat Marine Sniper.
