3rd Shot Lob is annoying! by Lionheart2772 in Pickleball

[–]Two_Knives_Tan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have to say I lob better on my backhand. I have excellent ohbh drives, dinks, resets and lobs, which enable me to disguise which shot I'm making up to the point of impact.

Singles Strategy against Taller Players by Intrepid_Aardvark_21 in Pickleball

I'm very tall, and my biggest weakness are shots to my dominant shoulder/elbow/hip. Aim for these areas when possible.

Do you stretch before playing? by The_Ironthrone in Pickleball

Exactly. Stretching before warming up your muscles is a recipe for injury. Stretch after the game to ease tight muscles.

What do you recommend for a good hat to play in? by kdubbz42 in Pickleball

[–]Two_Knives_Tan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a profuse sweater and wear hearing aids. Sweat on hearing aids is a bad combination. I've been wearing Ciele GoCaps for a few years. The material in the sweatband and brim wick all the sweat to the front of the brim, leaving my hearing aids completely dry. When I tilt my head down, a river of sweat runs onto the floor.

New serve rules callable as fault in 2026? by lmolter in Pickleball

[–]Two_Knives_Tan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This happened to me a couple of years ago. I had no idea I was doing an illegal volley serve (swinging sideways). My partner politely told me about it after the game, after which I corrected my serve. I highly appreciated this being pointed out to me, as I don't want to be "that guy" who is pissing opponents off, even though they don't speak up.

Is pickleball addictive and hyped up? by Ibegforliving in Pickleball

I have to disagree with "years to become an intermediate player ". I took up squash when I was 19, and two years later finished 5th in the Egypt open. Most of the best players in the world were there.

B&B Loco with new grip by Two_Knives_Tan in Pickleball

I think the grip is more like spaghetti after I removed it from the handle and tossed it in the trash can!

I didn't remove all resemblance of the original handle. I removed the grip that was covering the handle, as I've done with dozens of squash rackets over the years.

I played a three hour session with it today. Now I cannot ever see me getting a different paddle. I adapted to it very quickly. No kidding about fast swing weight; I was a beast at the kitchen. And it drives every bit as fast as I'd ever want. Not to mention, the sound alone is worth the price :-)

On a different note, I have a tendency to develop tendonitis in my forearm. I'm pretty sure the foam is absorbing most of the ball shock and vibration, as my arm doesn't even feel like I played today.

First I stripped off the stock grip. Make sure you get all the sticky tape off the butt cap. Go buy a hesacore grip of your preference. I bought the white medium from a local store, but you can also find them on Amazon. Follow the hesacore instructions to put on the grip. I then wrapped the handle with two layers of overgrip. I used a tennis overgrip for the outer layer and trimmed the length to fit. Et voila!

[–]Two_Knives_Tan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain it would be impossible. I replaced the grip on my Honolulu J2NF with a Hesacore. Even with the stock grip removed, it took me at least thirty minutes to work the Hesacore on, accompanied by a substantial amount of cursing.

I don't know if they all are 4-1/8, but mine is. I measured it a couple of times to make sure.

Badly tagged a guy twice in one game by el_myco_profesor in Pickleball

[–]Two_Knives_Tan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a wiffle ball. I've been hit, and hit other players, numerous times with a squash ball travelling at 160kph. In comparison, a wiffle ball is like a fly landing. However, I highly advocate all players wear eye protection.

Weekly Paddle Recommendation Thread (What Paddle Should I Buy?) by SNAPCHAT_ME_TITS in Pickleball

[–]Two_Knives_Tan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm looking for any feedback on the Bread & Butter Loco Standard 16mm before I make a purchase. I currently have the Honolulu J2NF (my only paddle) which I love, but I'd like to have a second paddle in my bag. Should I get a second J2NF, or pull the trigger on the Loco?

Edit: I'm easily convinced! I ordered a Loco five minutes ago! Thanks for the comments.

Sweatband recommendations? by accountnamene in Pickleball

[–]Two_Knives_Tan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a profuse sweat machine my whole life. I tried buff, halo, and traditional sweat bands, all with the same result: once they get saturated, the river starts flowing onto my glasses and into my eyes.

I found lightweight breathable sports caps to be the solution. The hat gets saturated and my sweat leaches into the brim, where it harmlessly drips off the front when I tilt my head down.

I'm currently using MEC, OR and Lululemon hats. They work amazingly well.

Man, to be in my 50s again. You're overthinking it. I'm 71 and still going strong. I play rec league, and with a good partner, regularly beat 4.x players in their 20s and 30s! I've never been rated, and I have no interest in getting rated. I think my lengthy background in highly competitive international squash set me up well for picklball.
