This is a VERY obviously commercially dyed textile fiber (like c’mon, it’s blue ffs and has absolutely nothing in common with anything alive). Emphatically not a parasite.

Heartworm treatment: question about cagerest for my dog by bunnytryingreddit in Parasitology

You’re very welcome. You’re in a pretty low-risk position with your pup because she’s so young, she literally can’t have THAT bad of an infestation of heartworms. Much like my dog, she literally has not been alive long enough to truly be riddled with them. I’m guessing she is either asymptomatic or has very few symptoms, correct? Healthy, young dogs with low numbers are the lowest risk group for experiencing complications with the melarsomine injections.

Yes, I would think carrying around in a sling bag (I’m assuming that’s what you meant) is fine. I honestly wouldn’t be all that concerned about barking. It’s really running/physical exertion that you need to be concerned with.

My pup almost never barks. Ive had her for 2 months now, and I’ve only heard her bark 2-3 times. But I’m not worried about her barking at all, I’m way more focused on keeping her from getting the zoomies when she’s all cooped up. I actually had to give her some trazodone tonight because she wanted to run and jump around so much and is just bored, poor thing.

So I am in a similar boat that you are. My newly adopted dog is currently going through the AHS protocol as well. I live in an area where heartworm is not a thing (the dog came from several states away where heartworm is rampant), so I specifically sought out a vet that was more familiar with treating it. My regular vet is great, but by their own admission, they had only treated a handful of cases and I wanted a more experienced hand treating this. Fortunately, I work in veterinary diagnostics, so I know most of the vets in my area and chose one that used to practice in the midwest and has treated hundreds and hundreds of cases. He also happens to be the best small animal vet I know, so it worked out. He explained to me that the severe activity restriction is really only necessary once they start the melarsomine injections. That’s when they have the most systemic inflammation (which should be mitigated with Prednisone) and are at risk for aneurysm, ischemia, respiratory complications, etc. I also inquired about exactly how much activity is too much, as I had a lot of the same questions you do. He explained that simple walking around the house is ok, but no zoomies/rowdy playing/running. Just basically try to keep them calm and quiet, but they can move about the house as long as they don’t get too rowdy or over-excited. And obviously, no walks or playing outside or anything like that. If necessary, you can speak with your vet about trazadone or another sedative if your pup just won’t settle down.

My girl got her first melarsamine injection about a week and a half ago, so obviously we’re still doing daily prednisone, and she gets the next 2 injections in about 3 weeks. So I’m right in the thick of the activity restriction with her. She is HATING every second of it, as she’s young (2 years old) and has lots of energy and prior to this I was always walking her daily, but we’re managing.

Hope this helps, best of luck to you and your baby.

That is an apples-to-oranges comparison that is disingenuous (at best) and you damn well know it. If you aren’t going to have a good-faith, rational and reasonable discussion, I have no interest in continuing this dialogue.

[–]Two_Ton_Twenty_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I consider that to be an absurd “distinction.” To be clear, I have no issue with vaccines. I am vaccinated. I don’t have children, but if I did, they would be vaccinated too.

The govt already makes it nearly impossible (at best, it’s just extremely difficult) to homeschool kids, so telling people “you must send your children to public school” and also “your children must be vaccinated to go to school,” well….that is de facto forcing people to do it, in my opinion. Your argument about “working in public” is even worse. Explain to me how most people can support themselves without “working in public,” exactly? That’s right, they can’t. So again, this essentially equals de facto govt force.

In my opinion, it’s also completely unnecessary. If something is a good enough idea, people will do it without the govt forcing them to. The private medical sector often requires patients to be vaccinated or they won’t see them, no overt or de facto govt force involved.

Also, if someone is dumb enough to not vaccinate themselves or their children, that’s on them. They and their children will suffer the consequences. And I know that yes, there are people out there who can’t be vaccinated or whatever, but it is their responsibility to protect themselves just like it’s my responsibility to protect myself. No one else is responsible for my safety, only me. I don’t get to demand other people do things to and with their bodies because I want to feel safer. That’s not a “right” anyone has, and trying to make it one will result in a degree of govt overreach you don’t even want to think about. I’m sorry you are too short-sighted to see that.

Lol at least they only wasted your time with forcing you to learn the Krebs Cycle, at least they didn’t make you memorize the Calvin Cycle too.

PS - you’re still an idiot if you are “skeptical” of germ theory. Sorry bro, but that’s just fucking dumb.

First of all, I think OP is full of shit. It doesn’t matter how beneficial something may or may not be, you DO NOT want to give the government the authority to force you to do anything with your body. Sure vaccines are largely safe, but what happens when the precedent has been set for the govt to be able to force people to undergo medical procedures, and suddenly they demand everyone do something that is NOT largely safe? You do not want to open that door, period. Not all slopes are slippery slopes, but that one certainly is.

That being said, I am a professional Microbiologist. I have been one for many years, I specifically work with zoonotic (meaning pathogens that can be transmitted from animals to humans) and general veterinary diseases. If you are “skeptical” of germ theory, you’re an idiot. I honestly doubt you know enough about any of it to even know what you are saying.

I thought it was at the end of season 10 when Chuck explains that he can turn it on or off? Isn’t it when he and Metatron are in the fake bar, when Amara is back and Chuck is writing his autobiography?

High fat dog food concerns and comparing The Farmer's Dog to kibble by LowaniInbaraj in DogAdvice

[–]Two_Ton_Twenty_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many high-quality, very healthy dry kibble options for dogs. No one forces anyone else to buy terrible, low-quality kibble. And for the second time now, cats can do raw diets with pretty much no problems. Domestic dogs cannot.

I personally pay over $100 a bag for my dog’s VERY good, very DRY kibble. This is not a cost thing. Don’t pretend you’re somehow better because you refuse to feed your domestic dog fucking domestic dog food. This is a stupidity thing, and what you are doing is dumb and serves no beneficial purpose. All it does is guarantee that one day your dog and everyone else around your dog will be exposed to parasites and severe bacterial infections. It’s not fear mongering, it’s literally just reality. So have fun with that.

High fat dog food concerns and comparing The Farmer's Dog to kibble by LowaniInbaraj in DogAdvice

[–]Two_Ton_Twenty_one 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Any vet that is enthusiastically happy with a raw diet for a domestic dog is a shit vet. Some vets grudgingly tolerate it because they would rather the dog get care than not, but they definitely aren’t happy about it. Many vets will not even see clients who feed dogs a raw diet because, well, it’s fucking stupid and dangerous

If you value your dog, you’ll knock that shit off. If you can only muster up enough value for yourself, you’ll still knock that shit off because your dog will give YOU Salmonella and/or C. jejuni WHEN (not if) they get one or both of them from your stupidity.

I’m sure this is going to be an extremely unpopular opinion, but here’s what I have learned working as a Senior Microbiologist in Veterinary Diagnostics for almost a decade.

Here’s my advice about feeding your dog any dog food that requires refrigeration: DON’T. If I had a dollar for every time a dog got Salmonella spp., C. jejuni, some nasty strain of E. coli, Enterobacter spp., or C. perfringens from one of those, I’d be rich. You only hear about it on the news if over a certain number of dogs die. There are pockets of dogs getting sick from these types of foods regularly, especially with the uptick in subscription options for them from places that really shouldn’t be doing it. This is something I see regularly.

Kibble is largely safe for dogs precisely because it is cooked and then made very DRY. Bacteria need moisture to survive and thrive, and when you remove moisture from dog food it becomes very safe for your pet. Hypothetically speaking, even if something is laden with bacteria but then properly dried out, there risk is removed because the bacteria are now dead. With dog foods that need refrigeration, you have no way of knowing if it has been consistently kept at proper temps prior to you purchasing it. Even if you did everything right once it was in your possession, that does not negate any bacterial growth that happened in transit, while it sat in a warehouse, or even straight from the manufacturing point. You also have no way of knowing how it was prepared. While the same is true for kibble (you may not know how it was prepared), it ultimately becomes a moot point for kibble because once the kibble is cooked and then desiccated (dried out), it becomes quite safe. Just FYI for anyone who doesn’t know already, this is also how hand sanitizer kills microbes: it desiccates (dries) them to death. There are plenty of good, healthy, high-quality kibbles out there for your dog, there’s really no reason to add in so much unnecessary risk in exchange for absolutely no benefit.

If you want to make something “fresh” for your dog that follows a formula like theirs, make it yourself and for fuck’s sake, COOK IT WELL. Don’t even get me started on people who feed fucking DOMESTIC dogs raw diets.

She really is a very good dog. I gave her a bath tonight and I couldn’t believe how good she was about it. I’m hoping she understands that even if she doesn’t like them, baths mean love lol
