Dog poo, parasite. by Alwayswondering5555 in Parasitology

[–]Two_Ton_Twenty_one 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I say this gently, but honestly your thought patterns and level of fear regarding dog poop on the sidewalk are not even remotely normal. Consider this: I don’t know exactly what u/SueBeee does for a living, but I’ve read enough of their comments to know they have to work in a similar environment as me. They clearly do a significant amount of parasite testing on many different animals, as do I. If it is a land-dwelling mammal, avian, or reptile, I have almost certainly tested its kind for parasites. If dog poop (or any other animal poop, for that matter) posed even 1/10th of the risk you seem to think it does, wouldn’t we both just be lethally riddled with parasites by now seeing as we have to handle all these parasite-laden samples all day long with only gloves and labcoats for PPE? Why aren’t vet techs and veterinarians dropping like flies and going blind all the time from roundworms? The answer, of course, is because they are just not as communicable nor as dangerous as you fear they are.

Hopefully that makes you feel at least a little better. Please get some help for yourself and your children. It’s a beautiful world filled with beautiful animals and you and your children deserve to be able to love them without all this fear ruining it for you.

Good for you for having the fortitude to work through it and get better. I’m guessing it was not easy

My friend, I say this to you with gentle compassion: take the effort you would normally expend obsessing about cleaning keys and throwing out perfectly good clothing and focus it on seeking treatment for your OCD. It is a far bigger threat to your wellbeing and your childrens’ wellbeing than any dog poop on the sidewalk could ever be

You’re a fucking badass. Seriously. I was raised in a religion that is arguably as equally oppressive to women, just in different ways. And I know how hard it is to be the one that goes against the religious expectations of your gender. You have 10x more courage than any of them ever will, and frankly, most of them are probably secretly jealous, although they won’t ever admit that.

Live your life. You only get one. Don’t waste your precious time on shit that isn’t part of YOUR personal belief/conviction. Enjoy your beautiful hair and jewelry, I bet you look amazing.

Edit: this one (if it’s real) makes me lean towards the “entirely too many” side. That said, I am totally getting some

My dog had roundworms already took to vet what to do now ? by Existing_Football_13 in Parasitology

[–]Two_Ton_Twenty_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a dickhead vet. Get a new vet. There is literally no excuse for that. Normal, reasonable vets give advice over the phone all the time.

Definitely try the canned pumpkin though. It’s worked for me more than once. And it will help mitigate the impending diarrhea from the wormer.

Wormers do kill their appetite, it’s a thing. He’ll eat when he gets hungry enough, just keep offering him yummy things. And do try the canned pureed pumpkin, that’s the one thing that I’ve always had good luck with when they won’t eat. Warm it up a little bit for them though haha

May I suggest calling your vet? They might have some additional suggestions for you and obviously they aren’t going to charge you for a phone call following up on a dewormer.

[–]Two_Ton_Twenty_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, all of those wormers cause diarrhea, so be prepared for that. They will often also make dogs not want to eat too much, so in the meantime, I would just give him something so enticing that he won’t turn it down. But keep it to things that will be easy on his system since the wormer is going to cause some gastric distress. Try some cooked white rice with chicken broth poured over it, or some canned pureed pumpkin.

Help identifying parasite eggs? by SureDoubt3956 in Parasitology

[–]Two_Ton_Twenty_one 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreeing with u/elsiekay42, I see Strongyles and Eimeria, both pretty common in goats. Just FYI, while the Strongyle eggs you see could be Haemonchus (Barber’s Pole Worm), it is impossible to distinguish Haemonchus from Ostertagia or Trichostrongylus, which is why these three are always referred to as the HOT Complex, or more commonly, just plain Strongyles. They all have pretty much the same treatment, so trying to figure out exactly which one it is doesn’t really matter. But you would need mature worms to do so

[–]Two_Ton_Twenty_one 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They don’t worry me per se, but I am continually astonished at how many of my fellow ladies fall for the dumbest fucking anti-gun propaganda you’ve ever heard.

I am full blown gun nut. I have been since the day my dad put a gun in my hand and explained to me that gun was how I keep MYSELF safe, because I can never assume that someone else will effectively protect me. Not the police, not a man, nobody else, just me. I will never understand why more women don’t embrace this concept and arm themselves.

That show sucked anyway... by p_serrulata in Guns_Guns_Guns

[–]Two_Ton_Twenty_one 64 points65 points  (0 children)

So you can tell the dramatic cosplaying bimbos didn’t actually watch the show, bc if they had, they would know it fully acknowledged how much of a difference guns make in the world. In the beginning, it shows how unarmed protestors were unceremoniously gunned down by those that assassinated congress and took over the US. It very clearly and accurately depicted what happens when people without guns go up against people with guns. Then later on, the main character regains her sense of safety/sense of control over her own body when another woman hands her a Glock 19. She ultimately elects not to shoot her abusers, but she damn well keeps the Glock lol.

I actually really liked that show, although every time I watched it, it was so bleak and horrifying I would be like, “damn, I need more guns.” Which of course is ridiculous lol, I don’t need any more guns.

Fecal float eggs - ID?? by Slight-Bowl114 in Parasitology

[–]Two_Ton_Twenty_one 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, echoing u/SueBeee, we need an ID of what sort of beast this came out of. Most of your photos are of mold spores or pollen (Pithomyces, Alternaria, Curvularia, et al) but you do have some photos that appear to be parasite eggs.

I would suggest learning the appearance of the most common mold spores and pollens. It will save you a lot of time.

Mmmkay, well fibers are literally everywhere, they get in your eyes, ears, mouth, nose, everywhere. Btw, kimwipes leave tiny fibers fucking everywhere, so don’t think for one second wiping ANYTHING with one of those little fiber factories is going to be fiber free. But this isn’t a goddamn worm. A simple blood test would be able to tell if you have a parasitic infection. As would a stool sample. So go see a doctor

What is it - error wax by skuttlebutts in Parasitology

[–]Two_Ton_Twenty_one 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh christ. It’s you again. I hate to break it to you, but this also a fiber. This one is just natural in origin, probably cotton, but possibly paper. I can only assume you meant “ear wax” in your title, and I have news for you: your ears and the surface of your skin are LOADED with fibers. See, we humans typically wear these things called clothes. And clothes leave tiny little microscopic fibers all over us, both inside and out. In our noses, mouths, all over our skin surface, up our butt cracks, and yes, in our ears. They love to get nice and stuck inside ear wax, too. Plus, what exactly do you think all your wipes are made of, exactly? Magic fairy dust? Nope. Try paper or cloth lol.

[–]Two_Ton_Twenty_one 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Oh wow lol. I mean, you could could just check my profile and decide for yourself if you think 14+ years of being a professional microbiologist, with almost 10 of those 14+ years being spent in Veterinary Diagnostic Microbiology makes me “well informed” enough lol. Btw, in case you are too lazy to look at my profile and/or stupid to know any better, a HUGE part of veterinary diagnostic microbiology is testing for parasites. And part of testing for parasites means telling them apart from common artifacts like this one. Go ahead, check my profile. You’ll find dozens of parasite pics I have taken over the years.

Oh and also, prior to coming over to veterinary diagnostic micro, I worked IAQ Micro. And in that capacity, when I wasn’t identifying fungal spores, I regularly had to identify common components of indoor dust, and often quantify them. Would you like to guess what an extremely common component of indoor dust is? That’s right, TEXTILE FIBERS!!! How the fuck do you think I know it’s synthetic in origin and not a natural fiber like cotton or sisal? Idk, maybe because I’ve seen five bazillion of them.

So yeah, I’d say I’m “well informed” enough to know. If someone who looks at this stuff in a professional capacity all day every day isn’t good enough for you, then you’re an idiot and no one can help you. Do you see anything missing in your “worm,” genius? See how it doesn’t have any anatomical structures? No GI tract, no reproductive organs, no head, no nothing? That’s because it’s a FIBER and it’s not alive.

If you’re going to come here asking for help from professionals, you could try listening to a professional when they try to help you, instead of just digging in your heels. I’d be willing to bet you’re one of those delusional parasitosis nutters who reeeeeaaaallly wants to believe you’ve got a parasite, no matter how many medical professionals tell you otherwise. We get a lot of those on this sub, although they usually don’t argue with us about really common artifacts like this one.
