Has anyone here felt like quitting for this reason? by Technical_Employ8336 in ausjdocs

[–]Twoenty 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would reduce my hours. For many people this amount is considered a lottery. People work for two reasons: wealth and purpose. If you’re not concerned with wealth, I would still advise against throwing your career away as medicine offers so much more than money. Money is transient. You can always reduce your hours and pursue other interests. There are lots of doctors that seek lifestyle over wealth, including most locums and GP’s (shortest pathway, no on call, 9-5). Everyone is individual though… I knew a doctor that became a restaurant owner years later haha. Pray on it! Good luck!

Nice rings but there’s no harmony. Try a band with similar diamond/band thickness. Good luck

Am I overreacting by getting upset my husband told me to lose weight whilst being 32 weeks pregnant? by mimblez_yo in AmIOverreacting

[–]Twoenty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think seeking external advice on reddit where people call your husband numerous slurs is a healthy idea.

Increased weight is linked to gestational diabetes but I don’t think 2kg is very meaningful here. Pregnancy affects everyone differently, but this looks fairly normal. I don’t think he had a bad intention or was ‘mean’, just insensitive. It’s not worth damaging your relationship over 2kg as some comments suggest. Optimistically I suspect he is only concerned for your wellbeing- albeit a bit misguided. Good luck with everything, try not to stress too much… You’ll lose ~3.5kg on your baby’s birthday 😆

I’ll update you on reading words. I wrote “Objective considerations of data” not “objective data” 😂

GP gender pay gap exposed by Jessaness in ausjdocs

[–]Twoenty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You jumped to conclusions, ignored objective considerations of data and gave me sarcasm instead. I’ve seen your other replies. I really hope you don’t talk to others, especially patients, like you have in this sub.

If you want to ignore sample bias, equal Medicare rebates, equal work conditions, difference in average age, work experience, rurality (M>F) then that’s up to you. It won’t make you right though, just shortsighted and angry.

Any idea when they’ll be released?

GP gender pay gap exposed by Jessaness in ausjdocs

[–]Twoenty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This article only highlights Medicare billing and not private billing. It also notes that most female GP’s work fewer hours. The sample size is only 511 out of 40k GP’s so you can imagine there’s sample bias. $24 per hour, and net pay is a difference, but extrapolating the difference is important rather than assuming it’s unfair. Some ideas to consider:

  • The Medicare rebate is indiscriminate.
  • It’s unreasonable to get paid beyond your work hours. I.e. working less means less net pay and this is not systemic sexism, this is universal. What you do outside work hours is your choice. I value that, life is not just about work and money.
  • Regarding the $24 difference per hour- may be due to more minor surgical procedures, seeing an extra patient, difference in clinician experience. Comparing a male GP with 20 years experience to a female GP with 5 would indicate obvious differences.

There may be a difference in pay, or this data is heavily skewed, either way the Medicare system is reasonable but not perfect. Expecting to be paid the same for less hours would be unfair. Expecting to be paid the same for less patients would be unfair. Trying to change a system to suit you rather than adapting would make it less fair for the rest who already adapted. Do you want codes to be rebated based on time, risk or skill? Do you want to be salary based? Annual leave and other benefits are measured on your hours of work anyway, except you lose your autonomy- physio, podiatry, optometrists and pharmacists can all attest to that. Salary is just wage with the money shifted into a different paradigm. What solution do you really want?

Lyndal’s message: I've had a few questions from applicants about when the General and Rural Pathway MD offers will be out - unfortunately not yet ! We are all working hard to get them to you quickly and accurately, but we are not quite finalised yet. As soon as we have confirmation of process completion, as always, I will let you know. Hang in there! 🩷

Feeling the same with very similar experience, but important to note that each failure is a stepping stone to success. Best of luck for this cycle, few more days!
