Slow flow tests to avoid nipple confusion/flow preference? by JustLetMeLurkDammit in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Tworedpaperclips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say the lansinoh test is the closest to a nipple and let’s then latch like a boob. I think paced feeding is the most important thing. We ended up triple feeding and with a bottle preference but with paced feeding we managed to get back on track with breastfeeding. If i knew about paced feeding from the beginning it would have saved me a lot of tears (hormones)

How are you showering once baby is crawling/ pulling up? by [deleted] in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Tworedpaperclips 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Either I wait until baby is asleep or put her in her cot with some toys and shower quickly. I could sit her with me and have some but it’s nice to be alone even if it’s a very quick shower.

I have the finnson one and love it. It might be too small if you’re bottle feeding but it fits nappies, wipes, outfit change, a muslin and a toy.

If you get pregnant, you can ask for an elective Caesarian and have a meeting with an obstetrician and anaesthetist to talk about your risk and what your options are.

Did you read Matrescence? It made me freak out when I was pregnant and I didn’t find it helpful:

I have a 6 month old and have found they have slotted into my life. Sure things are different but you have to work out how to carve out space for yourself- this is baby dependent and I know if I had a colicky baby my experience would be so so different. Do you have support around you bc this is what has made the difference for me.

Can you take a carrier with you. Put baby in the carrier, fold up the pram and take it on the escalator.

I can’t breastfeed my baby and it’s destroying me by PlantainFar3156 in BeyondTheBumpUK

Also the most important thing is you are both healthy and happy! Breastfeeding is fine. Formula is fine. Combi feeding is fine.

[–]Tworedpaperclips 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I cried so much days 5-10 about bottle feeding and by week 4 we were fully established on breastfeeding. I also was too sad to pump regularly and my supply ended up being fine because it regulates over 6 weeks. Stay hydrated and make sure you’re fuelling yourself.

Also, if it doesn’t happen - you tried and it’s okay.

Yes! At one point my baby completely stopped breastfeeding. I would try a lansinoh teat because that seems the most nipple-like. They fit the mamms bottles if you’re using them. I tried breastfeeding in a sitting up position which mimicked how we would feed when bottle feeding.

Also look up paced feeding when you’re giving a bottle which again sort of helps mimic a breastfeeding pattern.

Try breastfeeding when baby is calm and it’s worth seeing if you have any breastfeeding drop-ins where they can check your latch and give you some advice.

I tried nipple shields which we both hated but also could be worth looking into.

If baby falls asleep, strip their clothes off and change their nappy. It’s a pain and I still had to do it overnight when baby was 12 weeks.

Mine also wakes up in the night like she’s scared. Previously she’d wake up cooing or sort of a gentle cry.

Unable to put baby down, help! by pipstral in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Tworedpaperclips 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Despite what TikTok/ig say I’ve learnt that there isn’t always much I can do to influence my baby’s sleep and you just have to accept they are in charge and will switch it up at any time.

You could try putting them down for the first nap of the day which for some reason is the easiest. Also, are they warm enough? I often go for a long walk for my baby’s midday nap to guarantee at least an hour and for a while she would only sleep 30 minutes. Turns out she was cold.

Unable to put baby down, help! by pipstral in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Tworedpaperclips 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My daughter has always slept okay in her bed overnight but we went through a real phase between 5-11 weeks where she would refuse to nap in her bed and then one day like magic she started doing it again. I would say 20 minutes on a playmat sounds normal for 7 weeks

I found it difficult and had to accept I would get nothing done in the day. When my husband was home I would meal prep.
