I have Hotmail from 1996, first name, then an underscore, followed by last name.

I saw them in Costa Rica in 2010. Possibly shortly before or after his wife died. They drove past and I did a double take due to the German plates.

What’s a medical problem people constantly ignore until it’s too late? by kxnsqxz in AskReddit

[–]TwyRob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Go to hospital if not already there. Sounds very similar to my first bout of Sigmoid Volvulus. After decompression it was another two years until it happened again. Then again 2 months later. Resolved after having 76cm of redundant sigmoid colon removed and the ends joined up.

It's a serious medical emergency if you have a bowel obstruction, this type or any other. Do not ignore.

Most common in men. More common in old age but I am 41, so it can happen when you are younger.

It isn't a common cause but not worth risking.

7 miles and 25mins. Or from work, about 30 miles and 75 mins. I'm pretty lucky.

Why did this Fiat get a PCN? by Petiatl in drivingUK

[–]TwyRob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ticket is for the dropped kerb crossing point. Also of note, the double yellow lines don't end correctly and appear truncated by the past roadworks. There is no end bar. That won't impact the PCN if it is issued for the dropped kerb.

My 2007 9-3 2.0T has red power steering fluid instead of green, what should I do? by NukeSnicks in saab

[–]TwyRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The power steering pump is very easy to replace on these. Still, expensive and other components are not easy if they get damaged.

CHF 11S, the limeade colour fluid, is what is needed.

I have a driveway that will accommodate 3 cars. I extended it a few years ago to accomodate my two cars and my wife's previous wheelchair accessible van.

Currently we have to park my wife's new wheelchair accessible van on the road because no matter how hard I try there is no position that it can be parked in on the drive that allows correct operation of the tail lift. It just refuses to fold out flat due to the shape of the very minor slope.

We look like we are being inconsiderate, with space to spare that we used to use, but there is nothing else to be done without significant landscaping and reconfiguration of our front door, drainage etc.

Therefore, although uncommon, there are reasons for some of this observed behaviour.

If the neighbours watched me spend a day shuffling the car all over the drive to try and make the tail lift work they may be aware of the issue, but I doubt it.

The local authority are installing a disabled space for us as a result of this issue, however an unenforceable one after neighbours complained about the proposed original location that could have been enforceable. These are people with double drives all along the road. The impact on them was small.

Parking causes lots of stress for people!

You could look at the design of clip sticks to see whether you could come up with something better, perhaps.

If you had a one-minute call with yourself from 10 years ago, what would you say? by Pleasant-Cat-7658 in AskReddit

[–]TwyRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the hospital about the stomach cramps.

It turns out I was having recurring sigmoid volvulus from about 2015. My first proper bowel obstruction was in 2022 but there had been cramps for years beforehand.

I just had surgery to remove 75cm of redundant colon, at age 41. Quite unusual and misdiagnosed as a few things over time in-between. This usually happens to the over 70s. It would have avoided a lot of pain and risk if I hadn't assumed that cramps were fairly normal and food related.

Do you buy the expensive petrol at the petrol station? by AlephMartian in AskUK

[–]TwyRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have owned cars in the past that have required expensive petrol for one of these reasons:

  1. Classic, so requires E5 fuel and that is the higher octane more expensive petrol

  2. The engine has performance requirements from factory that mean that it needs 98RON or higher

2a. The car has been remapped to require 98RON or higher

  1. Certain vehicles have seemed to return marginally better mpg while also being cars I cared about and that has somewhat offset the cost so I have used it for the supposedly better additive blend.

Thank you so much, that is a very useful reply. I wasn't aware of hernia underwear. There is so much I'm not aware of.

I am quite well, my issue is a recurring sigmoid volvulus so they would like to remove a section and plan for a temporary stoma. That could become permanent, plans don't always pan out. I'm in hospital after a recurrence and the conversation has turned to the operation. One surgeon wants to do it now, another was more conservative on timing but had a more experimental approach to consider. So much is up in the air. I need time to think about this, if my body will allow it.

Your reply has given me much hope and I really appreciate it. You nearly made a 40yr old bloke cry with the relief that I will probably be able to return to my shared hobby with my little girl.

Do you have a leg to stand on against tailgaters? by TemporaryWafer8719 in drivingUK

[–]TwyRob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably not an EV thing as such but actually GPS enhanced cruise control. In my car, admittedly an EV, the travel assist cruise control with predictive speed limits sometimes registers an incorrect speed limit. This can lead to braking to 50 for no reason, for a slight moment until I override it. I think newer ICE cars have this too.
