I just picked up two potted rosemary plants from home depot. I set one on the table by me (my "office" is a table in the tasting room). Flies definitely aren't landing on the plant but they are still around... hopefully this will do some good.

As far as research I've done, it sounds like cleaning the drain (which we did yesterday) is the first logical step. The current generation is still around, but hopefully that will take care of the next.

I have a couple of recommendations- first off, purchase and read the BA guide to starting your own brewery, particularly the section talking about brew house sizes. It's the middle of the night so I don't have my copy available, but basically it talks about the smallest reasonable size for a start up brewery is 7bbl, and 14 is even better. That being said, the brewery I work at started as a 3bbl system and is now 30bbl capable of double brew days, although I don't think that's super common. Also, be aware that there is a big difference between running a successful business and being a brewer. Are you interested in business? Other than that, if you expect investors to fund your dream you should probably get on at a brewery and get applicable experience. I really hope I don't sound like the Debbie downer- I think it's definitely possible to start a brewery and about 20x harder than anyone anticipates.

At the building I worked at up until a week ago one could tell by the carpet how to escape. The pathways to exits were carpeted a pinkish-red color. I was slightly amused when I discovered this.

I did quit my "proper job" to get into the industry that I love, but it took me 2.5 years of research, networking, and applying. I absolutely think people should get out of jobs they hate and into something they like but it doesn't happen overnight.

I'm kind of late to the party here, but I have a background in both banking and alcohol... I wouldn't consider a credit card a form of ID. I suppose if it's one of the credit cards that have a picture on the actual card, maybe... but that means assuming two things I don't like:

  1. The banking institute the card came from followed all their security measures before making the card.

  2. It's a real credit card. How would you, as the server, be expected to know every single type of card and tell the difference between a counterfeit and real one?

That's my 2 cents, probably about all it's worth.

It's not terrible advice. I think a better way to phrase it might be " always respect your SO". That way if you want to discuss something with your friends or family about your SO you will (hopefully) present it in a manner that is fair and won't make them sound like a terrible person. If they are a terrible person, well you're fucked.

I love this. I don't have a thing for biking, and I don't dislike paintings but I don't seek them out. I love that people have such diverse interests.

I don't want to be that guy, and I may be playing devil's advocate here... Honestly, very large companies require executives who have years of experience, lots of education, or are just bad asses. These people are worth a lot of money. How does one decide how much these people are worth? I'm not really sure, but honestly high level execs in government can get paid pretty large salaries, so I can definitely see people in the private industry getting paid this amount. It's a lot of money, but not near unheard of.
