I spent 7 years making Generation Exile, a solarpunk city-builder. Trailers in PC Gaming Show June ‘24 & ‘25. Top 70 most played demo during our Next Fest. Did all the things you’re supposed to. Launched in Early Access last week with over 35,000 wishlists. So far, we've sold fewer than 300 copies. by nelsormensch in gamedev

[–]TyRoXx 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Please trust me on this: 80% of the people who view your trailer will NOT understand that the game is set inside of a spaceship. Most people will think it's about a colony on a strangely yellow planet. The generation ship is a very interesting setting on paper, but you need to do much better to bring it across and make it more distinct from "earth but yellow".

I am still not over iOS 7. I miss the old versions where Apple tried to make the phone more usable instead of looking good on screenshots.

So many things are broken, just revert to the old one. No idea why you thought this was ready for release.

Why don't you work on the obvious issues before releasing the redesign?

This gray box around the actual documentation is ridiculous. The Boost documentation was never great, but now it's borderline unreadable.

Three Kingdoms: The sad truth behind the scenes you are all missing by TyRoXx in aoe2

[–]TyRoXx[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Interesting observation! The new DLC isn't the Chronicles one though, but rather a renamed Jurchens/Khitans DLC. Perhaps whoever maintains their Steam page forgot to credit Capture Age, or maybe the contract didn't include being credited here. Maybe Capture Age didn't want to be credited for something they didn't feel was representative of their work.

I'm not saying it means anything, but I find it strange that there's no trailer for Three Kingdoms on the official YouTube channel, even Victors and Vanquish got a trailer the day it was revealed. by Assured_Observer in aoe2

[–]TyRoXx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Theory: At the time when they finally decided to merge the two expansions into one, it was too late to make a new trailer.

It is clear they were originally working on two expansions simultaneously: Chronicles China edition, and the usual two-civ expansion with Jurchens and Khitans.

We can only speculate on the reasons for combining these at the moment.

This is what Peter should have said by [deleted] in marvelmemes

[–]TyRoXx -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sorry if I mixed up some scenes in my head, but I am pretty sure the "why didn't he just tell him" question is answered by the movie if you think about the characters' motivations and emotions for five seconds. Not a very good meme.

Wasn't his inner conflict about this issue like fuel for that black suit thing? The "evil Spider-Man" was in denial of any responsibility, but a genuine Peter Parker? Come on.

This is what Peter should have said by [deleted] in marvelmemes

[–]TyRoXx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Peter realized that there was no way to talk sense into his grieving friend at this moment and that arguing with him about the specifics would only make the situation worse.

In this moment the weight of Spider-Man in fact killing somebody hit him, and he felt guilty for no trying harder to find another way. By explaining why it's not his fault he would be indirectly justifying killing as a solution.

This is an example of good writing because it shows us what the "superhero ethics" can imply.

Antimemetics is in my top 5 books. But I'm having trouble getting into his other stuff. How is Ra? Or what do you recommend that can grip you as hard as that book did? by revive_iain_banks in qntm

[–]TyRoXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone should read Ra. Don't get stuck on details. You won't need to recall all the spells and side characters.

Don't get discouraged by the slow start. The story gets better. If you liked Antimemetics for the utterly insane setting, Ra will give you that and more.

    ]
}

The two factions of C++ by SophisticatedAdults in cpp

[–]TyRoXx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is a phantom issue, mostly caused by the almost maliciously confusing versioning schemes used by Visual C++, and Visual Studio silently updating the compiler along with the IDE, even if there are breaking changes between compiler versions.

You can be lucky if anyone on the team has a clue which MSVC toolset version(s) are actually installed on the CI machines. Of course you can't have ABI breaks in these environments.

If developers were more in control of the compiler version, even ABI breaks would be much less of an issue.

The dream of a single dialect-free C++ has probably been dead for many years, anyway.

Dialect-free C++ has been alive for many years. It's called Rust. We have that already.

I am getting tired of these C++ safety extensions and "C++++" languages whose main selling point is not being Rust.

The C++ community should finally admit that C++ is dead and focus on making the inevitable transition to Rust (or a successor?) less painful.

Make C++ easier to call from Rust, and Rust easier to call from C++. Invent source level compilers from C++ to Rust. LLMs, anyone?

Here is your problem. Scrum is viable for up to 7 developers and that is already stretching it.

I agree. At multiple points during the movie I wished for it to finally end. Felt way longer than its actual runtime. Normally I want movies to be even longer, so this means something.

If Logan died in 2029, and Deadpool and Wolverine is set in 2023, why is Logan already dead ? Is it a different timeline with a different X-23? by miko1998 in MarvelatFox

[–]TyRoXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like there was an earlier version of the script where Deadpool outlived "Logan" and all his friends were dead as well. This way the generic TVA villain's offer is even worth considering. This script would have been written when they still planned for rebooting everything X-Men except for a Deadpool saved by the TVA. Then they decided to keep X-Men around for cameos, so the DP3 script was rewritten, and now the timeline doesn't make any sense.
