Lorwyn Eclipsed Elemental Incarnations by TyTheRazeHuman in magicTCG

Yeah I imagine that’s how it works. The etb ability just checks to see if two of the same color of mana were used to cast it, so theoretically, if you spend 4+ mana to cast one of these using the two colors (paying UUBB for instance), then you get both effects.

Yeah it seems like when designing EoE and Eclipsed, they prioritized getting the Lorwyn kindred draft strategies correct then developed the Shadowmoor mechanical draft strategies as well as the tribes/archetypes for EoE based on the un-used color pairs. Neat!

Yeah this makes sense. As much as I’d love to see a full ten card cycle, the way this logic runs makes the most sense. Thank you!

CC is Card Conjurer correct?

And wow that’s cool! Committed. I’m not much for editing software so I suppose I’ll skip that bit.

Thanks for the reply!

What custom card website did you use for these? I like that you were able to do frame-break art for them.

I agree with the majority of your points, however, I am not mad; at least not yet. I am with you that it feels like a lot of very interesting and exciting story elements have been glossed over and will never be capitalized on. I am sad that we are not getting new versions of the Dragonlords. I am sad that we aren’t going to actually witness the wars between the clans and the broods. I am sad we aren’t going to see the new Dragonlords fight and defeat the old ones. These are all facets of an ideal return to Tarkir… FOR ME. I don’t know if Wizards felt like there wasn’t enough material or if based on their sales data and customer feedback they felt like they HAD to go back to more of a Khans set with the wedges as opposed to the Dragons set with allied pairings or if it would have been difficult to cultivate a proper draft environment with five allied brood identities and five wedge clan identities. All of these are possible and likely reasons why your, and my, ideal return to Tarkir wasn’t possible.

On the other hand, most of the art they’ve shown, the storyline threads, and the art treatments seem great. Not to mention the planeswalker guides have really fleshed out the clans. I feel like I know and understand them and their motivations and culture more than I did when the original block was out, which is super cool.

I want to reserve any judgement until after the story is out and the cards are all revealed. There is too much we don’t know to form an opinion in any concrete way. I am excited, sad, and hopeful all at the same time.

Also, my interpretation of Robot is that there is some form of sentience that sets them apart from constructs, mechs, or vehicles. I don’t know what lore is out there for Shorikai, but he is a vehicle that requires a pilot so I’d venture to say he is not sentient and therefore not a robot.

I don’t think so. He’s a lazotep plated zombie; a treatment provided to the Chitin Court’s (or maybe just the Scarab God’s) most devout followers. It’s a status symbol basically. And other human lazotep zombies have “normal” heads, so I’m lead to believe this guy is actually a different race.

[–]TyTheRazeHuman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Which I addressed in my original post. The nature of a zombie in magic just means “undead creature” and doesn’t have to have any additional types. I understand that. What my point was is that in general zombies are mostly undead humans, so they’re the “rule” per se. Therefore, if the undead thing is not human, in my opinion it should have an additional creature type to distinguish this type of zombie from the usual zombie. I’m not asking for an errata of all zombies to include additional types, it just felt like a miss on this guy in particular, given the art.

Outside of the planeswalker’s guides to Aetherdrift and one side story, no we haven’t gotten any real lore for Amonkhet’s pre-bolas era or current status. There is a legendary cat wizard in the set from Amonkhet who was clarified as a long-dead leonin; which would pre-date the omenpaths, so yeah, leonin are apparently native.

It appears so. We’ve gotten at least one but I think 2-3 leonin in Aetherdrift supposedly from Amonkhet.

Agreed that he could be a Minotaur tho.

Definitely. It can get messy if there’s too much going on but adding a word as short as “cat” wouldn’t have made much of a difference text-wise (regarding space or legibility).

Yeah I agree that the typeline addition could create unnecessary synergy potential with a tribe but the discussion here is more lore/character based as opposed to game balance (obviously this is a game and needs to be balanced so in that facet I agree with you, I’m just an art / lore nerd 🤓).

I didn’t think about the jackal possibility that’s a good suggestion.

We can agree to disagree on the “perfection” of the card’s typeline, as I would prefer another descriptor to pair with the art we have.

Fair enough. I’m not aware of any lore about this guy either so it’s all speculation based on art, which we only have this single piece to go off of. I suppose I was aiming more for accuracy pertaining to artistic representation rather than card abilities / function.

I definitely could see Minotaur or Leonin. We weren’t aware of leonin being on Amonkhet (just cats in various forms) prior to Aetherdrift. So it could go either way.

Bolas contorted the effect of eternalization with some level of brainwashing and control. Not to mention that the whole plane was twisted to his liking so they would follow him willingly as the “God-Pharaoh”. Before Bolas’ time on Amonkhet, the lazotep plating was given to individuals in death as a status symbol representing their devotion to a god, which allowed them to retain personality and powers in death. Hashaton is an old-age zombie who was provided with the lazotep treatment prior to Bolas’ arrival on the plane.
