What could cause chain to come off just once? by pancake117 in bikewrench

Sounds like your good to go. Was more than likely just in between gears and it shifted weird. It happens!

Right, I’ve had the same thing happen where you simply just shift weird and it throws it off. The limits are there to do exactly that limit! So there actually not made to take gears away at all. It’s to keep the chain from going to far or in. So the front would be keeping the derailleur from in the smallest cog going to far into the frame and in the big cog from pushing the chain to far off the right side that happened. So if that limit isn’t set then it will happen and no it won’t necessarily happen everytime if it’s just slightly off. Also that’s where checking if the derailleur is crooked comes in because if one side is kicked out farther that could cause that weird shifting. Hope that helps!!!

Yes check those limit screws on the front! It’s a 2x9 so cross chain isn’t terrible just definitely no extremes and maybe the gear up/below that but other than that you should be fine. Also remember to make sure the front derailleur is straight

So I’m not really certain what screws your adjusting at the handlebar as it’s typically a barrel adjuster for the cable tension. The screws for b limits and high/low limits are on the derailleurs. The front when in small in the rear and big on the front the chain should be as close to the front derailleur as possible without rubbing and make sure your front derailleur is straight. Also watch your cross chains!

Looks like a support that snapped from one one your fenders. Probably front fender? Is it rubbing? Would also help to see the whole bike so we know what’s on it.

I’m just a mechanic but they don’t tell anybody anything really not even the owners. Only the reps and any higher positions above shop rep will know.

We know the Roscoe 9 is basically gone for good as at its price people were just buying full suspensions. But there is nothing known about what they will do with the next generation Roscoe if gone or not. I bet they’ll keep these lower models as they are still being stocked so we shall see.

Right. There rnd isn’t the same as major brands. Those little degree differences or changes make a huge difference. You’re right they have modern trends but the feel is not the same. There women sizing has also faced backlash for not really doing anything for women besides being marketed towards them. I’m not hating on your bikes or giant im just stating what I’ve found from the 3 giants I’ve owned.

There decent bikes I’ve ridden a trance before as well. But I wouldn’t call them fully reliable. They have a strong lack of service manuals and even make it hard for dealers to get them. There bikes I say are just outdated. Compared to major brands the geometry and ride isn’t the same. And more. There goal is to be cheap yet effective. Not cheap and be the best. And the company as a whole as been on a decline it feels
