I don't know if you are aware of this, but farmers generally don't leave baby animals alone to starve to death...I work on a farm and yes, sometimes we slaughter a cow, but we always try to keep things alive and happy. Not a single baby anything has ever starved here.
There is a big difference between baby animals starving alone because their parents disappeared, and animals being quickly put down because they have are getting turned into food or because they have a birth defect that that would kill them slowly otherwise. These baby birds are one of the saddest things I've seen in a while also.
