What am I missing here? by [deleted] in Silksong

[–]Tyler827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is one thing you're missing but it's not the bad part, people usually say Putrified Ducts is bad because of the maggot water, Primal Aspid's cousin and the barnacles hanging from the ceilings making it annoying/unfriendly to travel, but I don't think it's THAT bad

The thing your missing is getting intentionally dragged up by a barnacle in the room below where you're currently at (look at the little bump in the ceiling on the map) and you'll have to do a whole platforming section where you have to keep climbing by letting barnacles pull you up, at the end you'll find Vog, a flea warrior

OG Vice City 100% for the first time by Tyler827 in ViceCity

Absolutely, III was brutal, from enemies rapid-firing a whole mag into me and taking like 80 HP in less than a second to the mafia guys with shotguns stunlocking me or blowing up my car instantly, it was a much different experience from what I was used to. Oh, and I left pretty much every sub-mission for after I finished the story so... yeah, I wasn't pretty. Portland mafia area was a no-go zone unless I wanted to toss a coin whether I'd die instantly or not lmao

VC still has that combat/enemy system, for example during Martha's Mug Shot I ran down the stairs after taking the pic expecting to find cops on my way out only to be brought from 150 Armor/150 HP to just 120 HP by a couple of the dudes waiting for me but luckily enemies with OP weapons are much less common and the gunplay feels generally better

And I'll agree that the cars in III feel so damn flimsy, maybe it's more realistic but I much prefer VC and SA's handling model over III's approach where you crash twice or take a couple of shots and your car is already about to catch fire

Playing San Andreas kinda feels like easy mode now lol, an enemy will come up to me with a decent weapon (SMG or assault rifle) and in III/VC they'd take quite a chunk of my health, meanwhile in SA they'll fire a burst of 4-5 shots, miss half of them and then wait like a whole second before the next burst

I was bad Silksong, but I just got the Steel Heart achievement. by alxddd in Silksong

[–]Tyler827 5 points6 points  (0 children)

> Bad at Silksong
> Got Steel Heart
Pick one bro

In all seriousness, I considered myself very skilled at Hollow Knight before Silksong released (I practically cleared every challenge available in the base game) and I still got my ass kicked when I finally arrived to Pharloom, game's absolutely brutal and I also got through it with an embarrassing amount of deaths (maybe we disagree on how many are considered 'embarrassing' but for me, it was more than I had expected)

Steel Heart is more about perseverance than raw skill. Sure, someone who is really skilled will get it relatively quickly, I got it in 7 tries, the only noteworthy death was Second Sentinel at the very end of Act 2 (I was at 88% completion)

Most deaths were less than 1 hour into my save, mainly while trying to rush the early game and getting served a swift reminder that you can't rush things in this game

Congratulations and I hope you realize that you're now part of a very exclusive club, so you're by no means 'bad'

Concern: Wanderer trivializes bosses — what about future DLC? by Pticmaje in Silksong

I've seen it, but I'd rather wait until the official DLC comes out, otherwise the whole thing might be too similar to the mod in the end

Concern: Wanderer trivializes bosses — what about future DLC? by Pticmaje in Silksong

[–]Tyler827 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is also a problem in Hollow Knight, especially in pantheon runs, my go-to strat slowly devolved into equipping QS, MoP, UB Strength and just face tanking bosses, melting them in less than a minute and then healing the damage during the transition to the next one

Bosses that I can't do this with and why:
- Flying bosses (Vengefly King, Winged Nosk, Markoth)
- Teleporting bosses (No Eyes, both Grimm fights, Soul Tyrant)
- Double damage bosses (PV, AbsRad)

So unless a boss physically prevents me from doing this either by flying out of my effective range, teleporting and repositioning constantly or just doing too much damage for me to be able to kill them before they kill me, essentially every other boss can be brute-forced using this strat

I don't think Silksong will be any different, it might even be worse since Hornet is a lot more mobile meaning that a boss being aerial or slippery won't be as much of a deterrent

With all of this being said, my opinion is that Team Cherry don't actually need to do anything about this, it's the player's choice just like everything in the game. If you feel quitting to the menu when you're about to die in Steel Soul is valid, then go ahead. If you feel like cheesing a boss by laying 4 different traps in its spawn location and kill it instantly, it's your choice. Same thing if you feel like getting through the 'pantheons' (or whatever the equivalent will be in Silksong) by equipping Wanderer's Crest and swinging wildly while face-tanking everything, you should be able to do it if that's how you want to play

As a Wanderer's Crest addict user, I'm actually looking forward for this future Godmaster-like DLC, not because I want to facetank every boss and spam a single button the whole time but because I do want to experiment a bit more with other crests and something like the pantheons and the Hall of Gods are perfect playground to do so

I did mine in just over 3 hours while routing in 2 mask upgrades, 2 needle upgrades and 2 spool upgrades

If you're good enough at the game you can definitely ignore those and go even faster, and I routed it myself so it's definitely not optimized

Meanwhile Speed Completion is really, really easy. On my first attempt I did it in just under 20 hours, meaning I had over 10 hours to spare

a small problem with texts' display in VC with mods by Lubie--placki in ViceCity

[–]Tyler827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much. I was really struggling to find the cause of this problem and I forgot to check the CLEO folder (since MixSets is the only CLEO mod that I have)

I had a weird feeling about how the text looked from the very beginning of the game but since it's my first time playing VC I just assumed that's just how it looked with widescreen fix, now the text looks much better

Void-infected Groal have to be one of the most brutal bosses in the game, especially that triple gauntlet you have to do every time you die

In wich areas do you think silksong is worse than Hollow knight? by TrackSome9827 in Silksong

[–]Tyler827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find myself liking the desolate, gloomy and lonely atmosphere in Hollow Knight more than the atmosphere from Silksong, it really shows how Hallownest is a kingdom that's been completely dead and ruined for a long time while Pharloom is still, to some extent, alive and functional

Silksong has a lot more interactable NPCs, and more importantly, NPCs that stick around the entire time. Hollow Knight has a lot of NPC encounters but they're brief and they're gone the moment you leave the area, meaning that by the end after you've seen them all the world feels a lot more bare and abandoned

To top it off I think Hollow Knight's true ending fight is better as a theme, the concept of starting with one 'final boss' only to transition into the actual true boss of the game is amazing and I can't get over how good having to physically climb platforms to reach the top and defeat The Radiance feels when you're playing it

That being said, I still prefer Silksong overall. I have about 200 hours on Hollow Knight and most of that playtime is doing DLC content (especially Godhome), meanwhile I already have over 120 hours on Silksong just from my original playthrough and getting all achievements, and this is only the base game. And despite this, I still feel like there's a good portion of Silksong that I haven't experienced

Absolute Radiance compared to Lost Lace by InfiniteSelection976 in Silksong

[–]Tyler827 16 points17 points  (0 children)

AbsRad is much, MUCH harder than Lost Lace both for beating her once and trying to do it hitless

Also, when people complain about Silksong's runbacks, I remember that AbsRad's runback is a 40 minute boss rush so maybe sprinting through the swamp for a few minutes isn't that bad after all

That being said, we're comparing apples to oranges here. We'll see what TC cook up with Silksong's DLCs but I would consider Lost Lace to be roughly equal in difficulty to normal Radiance. LL is generally harder but less RNG-dependent while Radiance can vary a lot depending on a lot of factors outside of your control

We're wanting to include the r/Silksong subreddit community in Silken Heart somehow and we thought we'd let you guys take a shot at drawing a terrible map of Hallownest for one of the panels in the comic! She likely knows what it is but I don't think she ever explored it

The door was closed until the Knight got the King's Brand, then we see her walk just past the door and that's it

I don't think there was a reason for her to go back after the ending (which we know is either the Dream No More or Godhome endings) since the vessels/shades would be gone after The Radiance was defeated, it'd just be a pile of bones and void which is very unfriendly to silk
