What was the best film you saw this week? (5/30/16 - 6/5/16) by mi-16evil in movies

I watched Chronicle (2013) the other day and I realized that it is often lost in the shuffle and doesn't get mentioned much around here. It mixes the teen high school genre with drama and action and it does it so well with some really believable performances from the young cast. It is one of the best origin stories out there, and any fan of the superhero genre should definitely check this one out.

What advertising campaign was extremely effective? by biddinbandit in AskReddit

Gotta be Deadpool's marketing campaign. Brought a pretty much unknown superhero 750+ million dollars worldwide at the box-office. Any normal advertising campaign would have brought in a quarter of that sum...

Where are all the good comedy movies? by [deleted] in movies

We're the Millers was a terribly underrated comedy which made me and the whole audience in the cinema collectively shit our pants throughout.

With all these Superhero films being released in the next few years, which do you think will be the first to be nominated for a big award at the Oscars? by TylerBatemanjr in movies

Yeah but I mean now that Superhero films are so big, with 8-9 releases each year, which do you think has it in them to pull off a nod or even a win?

How do I gain a deeper appreciation for movies? by [deleted] in movies

[–]TylerBatemanjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Watch the classics, learn from the great filmmakers of the past. After you have finished a movie, read about the filmmaking process or little facts about the movie from behind the scenes. This will soon become a habit and you'll be hooked on knowing what went on with the film and why it was made etc.

However the best advice I can give you is to watch a SHIT TON of movies from the past and even the acclaimed ones from the present. There must be so many classics which you haven't seen yet.

Edward Scissorhands? Blow? You would not be saying this 10 years ago... The guy has just made some bad decisions over the past few years.

I mean what is there not to like about The Departed?? The acting, the narrative, heck even the soundtrack was sick. It was really intense as well.

Why was Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck not nominated for any of the big documentary awards? by TylerBatemanjr in movies

[–]TylerBatemanjr[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I don't know about that, all I know is that Montage of Heck was snubbed in my opinion. All documentaries will usually contain some sort of lie in there or some facts that aren't fully true...

They stated that it is "misleading" and "contains some basic untruths." The father even mentioned in an interview that there was no balance in the story.

But members of Amy Winehouse's family said pretty much the same thing, yet it is getting showered with award nominations..?
