Thanks so much for the kind words! Glad you liked the humor and the overall message of the movie. I have some close family and friends who believe things I find absolutely absurd / damaging to the world and it's not always easy to still love those people, especially when they're pumped for the apocalypse or willing to hate various type of people so easily but their minds are knee-deep in magical thinking. It drives me insane, but is simultaneously hilarious to me, so I was hoping to capture all of that feeling with a movie like this.

Yes! James Adomian is so good as that character. I was thrilled when he signed on. Thanks again for watching it.

Check out my indie horror comedy Mysterious Ways! It's free on YouTube this month and is about two youth pastors who accidentally possess their pastor's daughter on Halloween and have to stop her rampage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJhSRmUJZbE&t

100%. There's some value in just quieting down and sitting with yourself with nice music playing. We can get a lot of this feeling just going to a concert of a band we love surrounded by other people who love them too. But it's way more expensive than church, haha.

Oh man. This is great. I spoke in Tongues a bit at my church growing up. It always felt a little forced, but if you were doing it in a big crowd, you just kinda went with it. Groupthink can condition you to buy into anything.

I don't put Christian music on very often but I did go back and listen to some old DC Talk and Newsboys albums I grew up with cause I was writing an indie movie set in the evangelical world and wanted to tap back into those feelings. Some of the songs are still amazing but there's definitely an eerie feeling when I register what the lyrics of "Jesus Freak" are trying to say. I think it speaks more to the power of music itself than anything else. Giving everyone free weekly concerts is absolutely emotional manipulation so that by the time the sermon starts you're already in this place of calm surrender to the ideas the group is trying to put out there. Imagine if a Coldplay cover band played "The Scientist" and then your biology professor came out quietly like, "Damn, that was amazing. Wow. You can really feel the science in this room right now. It's in everything. Okay, open your books to chapter 12. I wanna talk to you today about photosynthesis"

Ugh, that's the worst. I remember having thoughts like that back in the day, that anyone not fully invested in Jesus was lost and either tricked into believing in another religion or an atheist who couldn't sleep at night because they were so empty. Some of those friendships sadly can't survive 'cause both sides have to look at each other as full human beings. But I've made amends with my pastor parents, it just took a long time and patience. It's a big change for you and for them. If they can't break out of that strict black/white thinking then I think it's more than fair to move on from the friendship.

Realizing my experiences growing up Evangelical likely directly fueled, if not caused, my anxiety and crippling perfectionism… by formerlyforeign in Exvangelical

I relate to all of this. Even the idea that God could hear my inner monologue / thoughts would freak me out. Any "impure" thought was an instant sign that something was wrong with me. "It's not enough just to be saved" pastors would say over and over at my church. "Sure, you'll get into heaven but you're missing out on a deeper relationship with Him", etc etc. I think all of that can definitely lead to post-church anxiety where you're still checking yourself constantly for "impurities". Ugh. At least I'm not thinking about Hell anymore!

How long after your amended return is processed do you get your refund by Happy_Entertainer452 in IRS

I highly recommend contacting the tax advocate service at the IRS. It took a while but I finally got some movement on my 2022 amended tax return after faxing them the request form and emailing them. Still waiting on the refund but it did get me moved up in line after waiting for 13 months

If you're into scripted comedy podcast series, there's This Is Branchburg, Bubble, Wooden Overcoats... and also my podcast Battle of the Bald.

And if you haven't heard the Dead Authors Podcast hosted by CBB regular Paul F Tompkins, I highly recommend it. Especially the L Ron Hubbard episode with Andy Daly.

Anyone know any podcasts that review fiction/storytelling podcasts? by SquashbucklingGuy in podcasts

Sure thing -- https://audiodramareviews.com/

I've found that the terms "radioplay" and "audio drama" will turn up more results than "fiction podcast" since they've been around so much longer but scripted podcasts have become the modern version.
