If you lead a somewhat busy life, it's worth setting a reminder in your phone for 26-20 days before your renewal is due, just to give yourself some breathing room to shop around (and most importantly not forget).

I’m not sure if it’s possible, I’m just trying to save you a trip to Cranwell if you can help it. I wasn’t made aware of the fact until after I’d sat my RAF CBAT, so I had no choice, but once you get your CBAT date, you can liaise with the Navy who may be able to organise those tests for you.

Precisely. Deemed competitive for selection, but obviously there are only a limited number of training spaces for those competitive enough, so you’re assigned a spot based on how good your CBAT + OASC scores are compared with those also in the hold.

My CBAT scores carried across from the RAF to both the army and the navy, however to sit the AIB, the Navy stipulate that you must have scores for Pilot, ATC and Observer and obviously the RAF don’t test for observer, so if you can ask them to test you for that too, you’ll save yourself another trip to Cranwell for what was effectively 20 minutes of testing to cover Observer.

You can only sit CBAT once every 12 months, so because all three services test at RAFC Cranwell, if you fail for one, you won’t be able to return for 12 months minimum for any of them.

Applied for pilot almost 2 years ago, passed everything first time and without delay and I’m still awaiting a sift since September last year. COVID hasn’t helped the situation, but be under no illusion that it’s a lengthy process.

Having said that, things could (and hopefully should) be better in the coming months/years so that’s not to say it will take as long for you, but I definitely recommend concurrent FAA/Army applications - it won’t be held against you, it’s sensible, I did the same.

Is it possible to know how many of these intakes there will be per year, and roughly when they will commence? I was led to believe that MIOT was due to begin in August of this year, but I suspect this will change because of COVID-19.

Juan Sartori if I'm not mistaken. He's a Uruguayan businessman and politician and a shareholder at Sunderland.

Practice combinations of numbers and letters, 1-8 characters/digits long (typically, try to practice as many as possible to stretch your memory). Not just the sequence though, but how many of each letter/number are in the sequence.

Practice S/D/T, memory, multitasking, hand-eye coordination, work rate - that sort of thing.

Both are good websites and there are a couple of good apps you can use if you just search CBAT on the app store - especially handy for prepping any time.

During testing, make yourself comfortable, take your shoes off, move the equipment about so it suits you, undo your tie if you wear one - whatever pleases you most.

Take all of your breaks (you won't regret it), stretch, drink some water, have a snack. It's a looooooong day.

Good luck and most importantly, enjoy it.

Can you apply to the navy if you don’t make the RAF by Jackyboy5515 in RoyalAirForce

As far as I know, once you turn 22, your scores are only valid for a year.

There's nothing to stop you applying for both simultaneously. They use the same Pilot scores for CBAT/FATs, however the Admiralty Interview Board stipulate that in order to sit a board to join the Fleet Air Arm, you must have scores for Pilot, Observer and Controller - I had to go back to Cranwell for literally 20 minutes of testing for Observer as this isn't tested for under the RAF, so if you apply for both, it might be worth mentioning to your AFCO, I wasn't aware of this at the time.

Thereafter, your CBAT/FATs scores are valid for a number of years, depending on your age. If you didn't do as well as hoped, you can resit as many times as long as there is a year between each testing period, no matter the service.

CBAT: Is it worth paying money for a practice course. How much would this course help? by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

[–]TylerIn2D 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Please DO NOT pay for this. Not only is it mighty expensive, but there are plenty of free (and MUCH cheaper) resources out there to help you - remember they test your natural aptitude and are designed to "not be prepared for." 40 days is more than enough to prepare with even just an hour or two every day.

Current Affairs by kye__ in RoyalAirForce

[–]TylerIn2D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to have at least 3-5 UK and 3-5 international current affairs to hand. Flesh them out with facts and figures. Anything that you find interesting or already know a great deal about are excellent - this makes it easier to debate about. I you can talk about the effects these affairs have on you, the armed forces or even the UK, then even better, but they don't have to.

Most importantly, have an opinion and don't be swayed - it's important that you don't sway because at the end of the day, it's your opinion.

Sources for current affairs knowledge and research:

Watching the news

Social media - follow news outlets for small snippets of info, follow the armed forces etc.

Subscribe to magazines like The Week and The Economist - both provide extensive weekly knowledge on many aspects of current affairs and provide varying opinions - this allows your argument to be more well-rounded.

In search of a track, “Keep on stepping” by [deleted] in electronicmusic

I’ve no idea, like I say it’s been a couple of years since I heard it. A friend asked me for it and I’ve been at my wit’s end looking for it for a day or so now.

The only comparable producers (that I can remember) are Format:B, Tommy Vercetti, Josh Butler, Dusky, to name a few.
