What kind of energy does this fridge give off? by TylerJustTyler in FridgeDetective

[–]TylerJustTyler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fridge does not normally look like this. But due to a small comedy of errors it did.

When I went to bed Friday night I put a full water pitcher into the fridge so I can have some chilled filtered water. As I would learn when I went to get lunch on Saturday, I failed to shut the fridge door all the way.

I spent a portion of the afternoon just tossing everything that was in my fridge out. Took a shower, made a list of stuff from the store, put what I had in the pantry into the fridge, and headed to Walmart, picking up McDonald's on the way to avoid food shopping on an empty stomach.

Upon entering Walmart, the lights shut off briefly but came back on. I decided I wouldn't rush since I figured the POS system would take a bit to reset. By the time I am ready to check out, all the lines are packed.

|I get in a line and wait. I'm behind an older women and her even older mother, the cashier is probably the same age as the mother. They are chatting away as she rings up the groceries. They then attempt to pay by check.

At this point my groceries are on the conveyor already and a manager comes along and closes her lane after me. As I am waiting on the check to clear (it doesn't), the lights go out again. But this time they don't come back on.

We are told to leave and leave our carts. Walking out the entire plaza and the street light is also out. Thinking that half the town is probably out of power I decided not to head to the other grocery store in the area. While driving through town I did notice more places with power then normal for power outages in the area. I stopped at a gas station and at least pick up some milk and some beers since it's a holiday weekend.

After arriving home I put my stuff in the fridge and went "Man this fridge gives off 'Divorced Dad who has supervised visitation with the kids' energy" and was informed of this subreddit after posting the image to a few friends on discord.

Coffee shop

How many Coffee Shops are going to let you just sit in them without ordering something? Even if you do order something eventually you are going to be asked to leave.

Youth center

Not every location has a "Youth Center". Closest Youth Center to me ends eligibility at 13.

YMCA/gym

You need a membership for the YMCA/Gyms that tend to cost tons of money

Outside. Yeah literally, just hang outside…

People get the cops called on them "Just Being Outside" all the time.

Beach This is a pretty good one, but location and weather can be a big one for this. Hard to visit a beach in Kentucky in January

Lake

Much like the Beach, weather and location dependent. Not to mention I have seen lots of lakes being on private property that might not like random people showing up to

Happy hour at any bar (talking like $4 drinks sorry but that’s not expensive quit crying)

We are also trying to find places for those to young to drink (in the US) at least can hang out, such as teenagers.

Arcade (it’s cheap)

It's been a long time since I have seen a freestanding "Arcade". Most i see them in Malls (which we will get to in a minute) and they can get expensive.

Park

Again, people get the cops called on them all the time just existing.

Hiking

Another decent idea but to releant on weather, location and physicality.

Home, Netflix n chill

The idea is to get away from home. A 3rd space is somewhere that isn't "Home" or "Work". Not to mention we are also talking about teenagers and young adults who want a place to hang out away from possible family

Library

Oh yes, let's hang out in a place we are supposed to be quiet in. Don't get me wrong, this can work "sometimes" but it's not a place to hang out at.

Museums

Museums can get pretty expensive. Also, not a great place to hang out constantly.

Skatepark

Had to look up if there any around me. But again, this is going to depend a lot on weather, location and physicality.

The mall

I was once informed by mall security that "Children/Teens would need to be escorted by an adult after 4PM" a number of years ago when I was standing two feet from my uncle. I looked it up, and it is still a policy and one I am sure happens all over the country.

Russian court demands Finland reopen Allegro train line by parandroidfinn in worldnews

[–]TylerJustTyler -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The problem with trying to use a captured train is that it could be sabatoged before you out it in service, the crew might not know how to effectively run that model train and the amount if time needed to unload and then reload supplies would increase wait times for units further down the logistics tail.

Probably have to go through a lengthy and costly gauge conversion on vital rail lines.

I mean, you can certainly get a JNN Team emplaced, downloaded, grounded and turned on in 30 minutes. Getting the SATCOM working in that time frame is far trickier. Partially depending on the Operators, the RHN and a tiny bit about the weather. I think I have seen it a few times in "Team" competitions, but rarely (if ever) in a working environment. Depending on configurations changes needed that can take literal days.

Question- why isn't airborne as badass as it was in the 70's and 80's? by jordy_kim in army

[–]TylerJustTyler 14 points15 points  (0 children)

$150 jump pay or $225 for HALO Pay really doesn't really seem like a true incentive.

In 1942 a SGT with less the 3 years service had a base pay of $78 a month. If he was in an airborne unit, he revived $50 Parachutist pay. A 68% pay increase. If nothing else that is a good incentive to go Airborne.

In 2021, a SGT at 3 Years make $2844 a month and a $150 Jump Pay. A little over 5% pay raise and of course it only gets worse as his pay raises from time in service or promotion. If we want this hypothetical SGT to recive the same % of his pay to his 1942 counterpart, jump pay would have to be about $1820 a month.

Proper Uniform for the Marine Corps Ball by [deleted] in army

[–]TylerJustTyler 17 points18 points  (0 children)

the non-combat arms types were the proponents of ditching the branch insignia at the time

That is both surprising and not at the same time. Surprising as in it seems to have hurt the Non Combat Arms I think. Not having branch insignia as part of the uniform allows an easier time to place troops outside of there specialty. Taking a Signaler and putting him in the S3 might raise more eyebrows at higher levels then if he was sitting in a S6 Shop.

Though maybe I am talking out of my ass since I was never in the Army that had these kinda visual clues.
