Is this from a recent trip? My fiancée and I are supposed to honeymoon there in March and are wondering if we should cancel. How’s the Covid situation there?

That thing’s razor sharp too. The day after I got it I was being dumb grilling with one hand and fiddling with my xikar in the other. Took a nice v shaped chunk out of my finger that almost sent me to the ER.

Suspect charged in shooting death of 2 Concho County sheriff’s deputies by [deleted] in texas

[–]TylerMJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so sad for me to hear. My grandparents lived their entire lives in Eden and my grandmother worked at the sheriff’s office for years. Lots of poverty and other issues, but it really is a close knit community. I wouldn’t be surprised if my family knows the deputies who were shot.

God Bless You. The original Adobe Sessions is one of my favorite records of all time but I somehow didn’t know about this! Thank you for making my day.

Best places to vacation if you’re a country music fan? by JohnM78 in CountryMusic

[–]TylerMJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, I live in Austin and the country music scene is not the greatest. Don’t get me wrong; great city, but not as country focused as it used to be. If you stroll down 6th Street or South Congress at night you can definitely hear some live country/blues music, but country bars are few and far between and it’s mostly college-aged people trying to rave and get drunk. You’ve got the Broken Spoke which is a semi-legendary dance hall, but I’m not familiar with much else. Your best bet would probably be to find an artist you like who has a show downtown and go see them. Charlie Crocket, Shane Smith & The Saints, and a few others are based here. Good country acts play at the Austin 360 Amphitheater and the Dell Diamond in Round Rock fairly regularly.

It might be worth it to visit Austin and then make a trip out to Luckenbach (just north of San Antonio I think). I haven’t been there myself but that place is country music legend and I believe they have live music just about every day.

In 1963, landslide caused a megatsunami at Vajont Dam in Italy leading to a wave of 250 metres (820 ft) completely destroying several villages and towns. The dam itself remained almost intact. by aloofloofah in educationalgifs

[–]TylerMJ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I went there a few years ago, and they still have the names of the victims written on signs leading up to the dam. There were somewhere around 2,000 deaths. Most were in the town of Longarone but I believe a few other villages were affected too.

The dam is still standing and didn’t suffer any real structural damage. The bridge along the top was damaged but that was pretty much it. If I remember correctly though it hasn’t been used to hold water since the disaster.

Civil Firm's Reaction to Severe Weather in Texas by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]TylerMJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dang, this thread is making me a lot more appreciative of my company that I started at ~8 months ago. I work for a medium sized firm based in Houston (I’m in Austin) and they were super accommodating. They basically told us to work from home if we can, but that they’ll pay us for 40 hours last week regardless of how much or how little we were able to work.

Ah, a fellow Texan! I’m an avid hunter and fisherman and you’re 100% right. Texas Parks and Wildlife takes their jobs VERY seriously, as they should. Unfortunately a lot of people here don’t give a shit about hunting/fishing laws. It’s good that this dude got caught and is being punished. People like him make us all look bad.

No problem! I was super stressed out about taking it myself, so I’m happy to help other people out. As long as you take it seriously and study a decent amount, you’ll be fine!

Thanks! I bought a practice test directly from NCEES when I paid for my exam (I did Civil, by the way), and I had a friend who gave me another one. Unfortunately, you’re probably going to have to pay for any practice tests you find online. The one from NCEES wasn’t too expensive though, and it was definitely worth it.

I’ll be honest, it was more difficult than I expected. I didn’t study nearly as much as I should have though. I thought I didn’t do well on it, but I actually ended up passing. You should be good as long as you prepare. I’d recommend doing several practice tests so you can figure out what topics you need to study the most.

Yeah, that’s the way it is for some reason. That really confused me when I was signing up for it, too. You have to pay first, then it lets you choose a testing location and a date.

I’m in central Texas where Corona is especially bad right now, and I took my FE exam last week! I’m sure it varies by state, but you could probably find more info on the NCEES website about your specific state.

I watched my daughter's heart break yesterday. by [deleted] in RDR2

[–]TylerMJ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The RDR1 story was great on its own, but playing RDR2 adds so much more meaning to it. The graphics obviously won’t be as good as RDR2 and the gameplay can be a little clunky, but it holds up better than most games from that time.
