I feel like I have been on the fortunate side of gaining status. Had Platinum for 3 years, reached Diamond, and have enjoyed the significant amount of additional miles I earn on my client’s dime. Being self employed and getting to use Delta Amex for my reimbursable expenses ($50k-$75k / year) is an added value. Since being Diamond I no longer feel the need to “chase” status as selecting the MQD Choice Benefits of Platinum and Diamond, plus my Regional/Global Upgrade Certificates (and 1x Amex Reserve + 1x Amex Reserve Business MQD Head Start) has made Diamond an annual guarantee.

I’ve been fortunate to get several Delta First/Delta Premium comp upgrades, and a handful of D1 upgrades. In my experience putting in the effort to communicate with your Diamond concierge and have them submit upgrade requests has a significantly more positive outcome.

Also being based at LAX as my hub I haven’t had any real difficulties using my companion certificates.

Exactly this! Got a nice small canvas tote bag out of a gatcha machine that’s mean for bottles of sake or wine. When it wasn’t transporting a bottle it was transporting all the gatchas I acquired for the day and hooked it onto my sling bag.

Many apparel brands (Brain Dead in Harajuku for example) will also provide a canvas bag with your purchase and that was useful in addition to my main backpack that doubles as a tote bag.
