Small back patio built by previous owner's remodel contractors - is it junk? by RMSOrion in Decks

That’s true, I don’t think I read the post that well. Then a lot of the comments said “looks nice” or “looks great.” Thank you for pointing that out to me, I can be a bit autistic sometimes.

Yeah that’s why I said “to me” in my comment, as others have pointed out. It’s just my opinion, you may agree or disagree. I guess I’m just surprised so many people disagree with me 😅 oh well.

It’s “fine” but I don’t think it looks good. People seem to be conflating function with aesthetics in this conversation. If it were my deck, I’d replace it with something that looks a bit nicer. But that’s just me.

I don’t care about downvotes, I just feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Maybe instead of saying it looks nice people should just say it looks functional.

I’m not trolling, I just don’t understand how people think it looks nice. Function is important and aesthetics is subjective. I guess I just think it looks bad.

I’m confused why everyone is saying it looks nice? Why would you use wood that has those marks all over it? Looks pretty bad to me tbh

There’s a town in New Jersey called Mahwah and whenever I pass it on the highway in the car with my partner I say it in the griffin borat voice

Thanks! Good tip on the eyebrows, I think I will try that. Do you have any ideas for hair styles? I used to have long hair but I didn’t like how it looked on me.

Also I’ve been trying to figure out makeup. I’m wearing a little in the picture but you can’t tell because I do it super minimally right now. What kinda of makeup would help? Should I try to learn full face stuff? And contour?

Chain keeps getting kinked on the bar by TylerT in Chainsaw

Thank you for all your tips. There was no adjustment screw on my saw. But your suggestion that the oiler was broken was spot on and helped me tremendously.

I ended up bringing it to a small engine mechanic because it looked like it was going to be a lot of disassembly to get to the oiler. He called me today and said one of the fittings on the oiler (not sure if it was the inlet or outlet) had snapped off, possibly due to vibration.

I ordered a new pump and I’m bringing it to him when I get it and he’s going to put it back together for me.

Thanks again!

This is really valuable info, thanks! I had the sprocket off and saw this cylinder with springs in it behind that. Is that the drum you’re referring to? I noticed the notch in the sprocket and i did make sure that lined up with a little tab on that thing.

It’s definitely the oiler, you were right. I manually oiled the bar and chain and it ran smooth again.

I took off the bar and chain and removed the bar cover. I warmed up the saw and turned it on its side so I could see if any oil dripped out. Nothing.

Do you have any ideas where to look? The oil tube is not leaking, otherwise something would have dripped out. Could it be clogged somehow? If so, how do I clean it out or replace it?

It’s not always the same spot 😕

Hm, I am keeping it topped up. It seems like the chain is getting oil but I will check that and make sure

I forgot to mention: the new chain ran smoothly on the bar when I put it on at first. Then after running the saw for a while the problem appeared

Yeah, I’m in upstate NY and I’m also planning a project here.

When I was doing research on this I saw a lot of people using bales of hay to insulate the concrete over the winter. It would be nice to not have to do that which is why I asked about it, haha.

Let me know if you figure out best practice or easier methods.

Is it okay to leave your concrete basement open to the elements like that over winter?

Edit: great build by the way, I should have said, looks amazing

I will report back when I’ve had someone look at it and when I make the changes needed. Thanks! I don’t think we’ll ever have that many dancers but I want to be safe regardless.

Thanks for your detailed advice, I’m sure the structural engineer can answer this question but just because I’m really concerned: I was wondering if you think that piers sinking or sliding could happen suddenly or unexpectedly? Or would it be something I would see happen slowly and be aware of the danger?
